YouTube is changing the eligibility threshold for their Partnership Program allowing for the use of monetization.

So as of February 20th of this year (2018) your channel has to have 4,000 hours of watch time for the last 12 months including 1000 subscribers to be eligible for their partnership program

And if you’re already in the partnership program and have not met the eligibility threshold be prepared because you're going to lose monetization

Once you reach the eligibility threshold for theirPartnership Program your channel will be reviewed and these features will be reinstated.

You can learn more about this change here: https://support.google.com/you...

UPDATE:

One question that I had as well as others had was when thesechanges come into affect will your channel lose the ability to use end screensand cards. These features allow you to have external links within your videos.

I reached out to one of my YouTube mentors Tim Schmoyer and the great new is no you will not lose these features

So if you are already in the partnershipprogram but will not meet the new requirements in February you will NOT losethese functions, and that's great news.

Corporatism - our REAL enemy!

Thanks for the update Leo.

They should be targeting channels that reupload old content or others content...Why go after people spending hours creating and editing their own stuff. Dumbest move ever...4000 hrs! when you only have 5 minutes to retain a viewer... looks like they only want big media on the platform...

They should be doing a lot of things, but this shows they don't care about the little guy, this is going to hurt them in the long run

Have a long long way to go>>>>

This is big for internet marketers, surely 2018 is already looking good. lol.

Looks like we'll have to use some old school methods: "use the link below to . . ." that is placed in the video description area, say your URL more often during the video, place the link in a custom-made thumbnail picture so people can at least type it in to their browser, etc.

Yep, old school will still work

Great. I'm at 3000 hours and around 900 subscribers.

You're very close

Honestly this seems reasonable to me.

Far from reasonable

Just read another post about this. It obviously will affect an awful lot of people. Not me but I know a lot of people who will be gutted.

Yep lots of people are not happy - I see a lot of people removing their videos and going else where

Haven't put anything on you tube yet. But thanks .

Thanks for the heads up Leo... So we no longer just need 10,000 views? Are these new rules on top of that 10,000 views?

Ahh just read everything, this sucks. Lol

Yep, go to the YouTube fourm people are pissed and lots of people are going to be removing their content because of it, don't blame them.

4000 hours is a LOT. Not cool, oh well. I lost the monetization option last year but now I will lose the cards and end screens too.

I'm going to lose it because I don't have enough subscribers - and probably never will - with my niche it's not subscriber orientated it's solution orientated - no big deal there's a very easy work around for me.

I'm now trying to confirm that cards and end screens will still work for videos already uploaded

Keep me updated if you find out. :) Thanks!

I will

I've just heard back from a top contributor in the YouTube forum and he is telling me we won't lose end screens or cards just the monetization feature. The way YouTube stated it is you would lose these features as they were a partner related.

Here's what he said:

General End Screen annotations and Cards are not Partner features. All users in good standing have access to those two features.

Using External links within those features were partner-related, but YouTube has announced that those that already have access to external links will keep access for the foreseeable future after the Feb 20th deadline.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see, monitization is not a big deal to me, end screens and cards are the features I like having and even if I don't have those after the 20th it's still not a big deal, I have work arounds

Thank you Leo, interesting and glad to see the clarification so that means I get to keep them, that's good. :)

Yes, there are work arounds for sure, but I had really enjoyed making money from my channel... maybe that's part of the reason why I haven't been motivated to produce more, and now, not sure what I'll do.

To get 1000 subs and 4000 hours of watch time, I'll need to do some crypto videos!

I just use YouTube as a free traffic source to my site so I don't care about the monitization of the video itself.

So if we get to keep these tools fantastic, we'll know for sure after Feb 20th
