Are You Using Protection?

The security of your site must be at the top of your list within your online business.

Everyday you hear of someones site being hacked. If fact a friend of mine - his site was just hacked (today) and now he has to go through not only the pain of his business being effected. He has to restore his site.

This is why I wanted to make this short post. To share with you what I use to protect my sites from hackers and malware.

Please note: I do not host my sites at the WA.

My first line of protection is from WordFence https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordfence/

There is a free version which is very, very effective and you can upgrade to a paid version. I have the pro version. The annual cost for the paid version is $23.05 per API key per site.

If you click on the link above scroll down the page there is a video and the very long list of things this plugin can do for your site below the video.

One of which is the increase of your sites speed up to 50 times because of the Falcon Engine. This is the fastest WordPress caching engine available today.

Please note: wordfence cannot be installed if you are hosting with the WA

Next I use Code Guard as my cloud backup service https://www.codeguard.com/

The program monitors and backs up my site automatically and also sends me notifications of any changes to my site. I can restore my website from any point in time with 1 click.

I don't host here I host with hostgator and they give clients a wicked deal. What it costs for a monthly membership ($49) with Code Guard which cover 12 sites I only pay that price for an entire year.

Protecting my content is also vital, so I use a content protection plugin. A great one is called WordPress Protection Lite https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-protection/

Anyone that comes to your site cannot copy anything. The plugin disables Keyboard Shortcuts (like CTRL+C, CTRL+A, CTRL+X and CTRL+V), disable the text-selection, and blocks the use of right click on your website.

I use a pro version of the same software https://www.edarpan.com/pages/wordpress-protection

Also make sure you run malware, virus and trojan software program on your computer on a regular basis. .

I run a few programs - Spy Bot Search And Destroy.

And Advanced System Care Pro from iobit. There are free versions and paid versions
http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcarepro.php

A great resource to find virus and malware protection software is from the site www.majorgeeks.com

Look under the sub heading of Anti Virus and Anti Malware. You can find Spybot Search And Destroy at major geeks.

Remember this:

It's not "IF" your site is going to get a hack attack, especially wordpress or crash or some other catastrophic event happen. It's "WHEN" it's going to happen.

Even the best hosts in the world cannot fully protect you - you need to take extra measures to do everything you can to protect yourself and your business.

And when something bad happens. It's not going to be that tragic of an event if you have the tools in place to get back up and running as fast as possible.

Hope you found this information helpful.

I believe in you!!

Ken

That's a good idea

I already have wordfence & wp protection lite like you had suggested once before but I don't have code guard. I'll be downloading it today. Thanks for all the great tips you give us from time to time. I really appreciate that.

You're welcome

Thanks for this information. I need to look into the hacking one.

I was asking about backup today and Kyle said that sites hosted here get backed up daily. If that's the case what protection would you suggest. Also, with Wordfence would I still need the Quick Cache plugin I have?

Probably not since caching is built into wordfence

This is excellent information and probably a life saver. Thanks so much.
