About The Google Speed Update
I've been a subscriber to Search Engine Land for as long as I can remember being online. Today I received an update about Google's speed update. So I thought I would share this info with you.
Below are the 4 different links regarding the Google speed update
1) Since 2010 Google included page speed for desktops as a ranking factor. And starting in July of 2018 this is going to apply to mobile as well, read about it here: https://searchengineland.com/g...
2) Search engine land asked Google a bunch of questions about the speed up date, here are the Q&A's: https://searchengineland.com/f...
3) Mobile speed is a factor but Google says it can be superseded by query intent - so a slow page can still rank #1: Read more here: https://www.searchenginejourna...
4) Google's algorithm is designed to downgrade aslow mobile page(s), read about that here: https://www.seroundtable.com/g...
Enjoy
I believe in you

Great information Leo and I have this bookmarked. I checked my site speed and it says 82%... it says good..
All this is useful info - and annoying because I tend to read this like a geek :)
I seem to get different results depending on where I measure speed from.
Pagespeed at WA gives very variable results for the same page, Google tends to find the page slower, while Pingdom says it's not bad at all.
Also, I read somewhere today (can't remember where) that Google measure mobile speed equivalent to 3G network because most mobile users will be on 3G until 2020 or so.
So if your site shows good speed on 3G it's lightning fast on 4G.
The best things to do is:
- Choose good hosting
- Optimize images
- Keep the coding (themes&plugins;) as clean as possible
- Hope for the best
Yeah lots of different results from different places - nice that WA has sitespeed for hosted sites here
