11 Minutes To Create A 1788 Word Post

Last Update: January 12, 2019

The ongoing theme for many people is that creating new content can be a challenge. Yep, I'll agree, it can be if you're working hard and not smart.

How did I create a 1788 word post in just over 11 minutes? I dictated it using Dragon Naturally Speaking.

I stopped typing content a long time ago. Sure I can type fast but I can talk faster. And dragon makes it really easy.

Update: I have sinced upgraded from version 13 to the Professional Individual version 15. And this latest version is amazing.

Here's the direct link to Nuance to check out dragon - https://www.nuance.com/dragon.html

I believe in you!

Hello Leo, I've just been reading your interesting post about Dragon, I have been using Dragon naturally speaking for several years, currently using version 15 which I believe which is the latest version. However, I still find Dragon quite erratic and sometimes it seems to be more accurate some days then other days, I don't know if this is down to me and how I speak or if it is down to Dragon or my laptop.

Today, Dragon is working well, I haven't had to correct one single word, on another day Dragon could make six or seven mistakes in this amount of text!

I appreciate you need a reasonably powerful computer, in fact, this is very important, in my experience. I believe Nuance recommend 8 GB plus, I have 16 and an i5 Intel processor, the present version has been much better than the previous three versions I have used, however, I do think a lot of this comes down to having a much better laptop.

Enjoy your day.

Yeah the more horsepower your computer has the better, the computer I have Dragon on is running Intel Core i9-9900K

I hear you Leo and it makes good sense! I didn't realise Intel produced an i9 processor, whenever I am searching for a new laptop or desktop I always see i3, i5 and i7 processors! I've just visited Intel's website and see the i9 processors, we learn something every day!

I was just thinking of buying a new desktop, I don't have a desktop at the moment, I was looking at a Dell professional desktop with 32 GB of RAM which could be upgraded to 64 GB. Do you think it's worth me looking at the i9 processor, I was thinking of an i7 processor? I definitely like to have products that are overpowered rather than underpowered and if it makes Dragon more efficient it is well worth paying the extra money, within reason.

Thank you for the really useful information, Leo, I do appreciate it.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I've been tied up with clients and have not been around the WA very much.

If you buy a i9 then you'll not have to upgrade your processor for many, many years. And you'll have all the power you'll need.

Again sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

Hello Leo,

Thank you very much for your reply, I also fully understand it's like when you're busy and it's important to prioritise clients.

Thank you for your advice Leo, I really do appreciate it as I feel that you are a man who very much knows what you're talking about! This sounds like a very good idea, I was thinking of having three screens and purchasing a Dell commercial desktop. I presently have a Dell Latitude laptop which I have been very very satisfied with, right this very day, in fact, it's a pleasure to use.

What brand of computer do you use Leo, please? I appreciate your advice. I have so far had a price for a Dell Precision 5820 tower, this is the specification:

Intel Xeon W-2102 (2.9GHz, 4C, 8.25MB Cache, No Turbo, No HT, (120W) )DDR4-2400 1 No Additional Cable Requested 1 Precision 5820 Tower 425W Chassis 1 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 2666MHz RDIMM ECC 5 No Hard Drive 1 3.5" 2TB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive 1 Integrated Intel AHCI SATA chipset controller (8x 6.0Gb/s), SW RAID 0,1,5,10 1 CPU Heatsink 5820 Tower 1 No

I've never bought a computer in a box and by that I mean from a retailer all my computers are custom made.

Here's some of the gear for my latest computer:

- i9 - 9900k - 8 core processor
- Z390 gigabyte mother board
- Two seperate hard drives both sata - a 500mb for my operating system and a 12tb for everything else
- 128 ddr4 memory
- Seasonic 850w power supply
- Geforce 2090 graphics card

Hello Leo,

Thanks for taking the time to reply Leo, I do appreciate it.

This sounds like a serious setup, I don't know all the technical stuff, however, it does interest me and I really like the idea of something that has plenty of power and your system sounds like it does! Do you literally buy the component's and then put them all together or is it something that you order to your specification and factory built?

Have a really great day and thank you for your help.

Amazing Leo, it's something that has interested me for many years and like everything, I guess it's not quite as complicated once you have the know-how! The same old story, I would really like to learn more about building computers, however, time is a great thing! I guess that on a desktop or tower system the individual parts probably slide in, obviously, I know there's more to it than this but it is fantastic that you are able to do this type of thing, well done.

Enjoy your day.

I use the voice/typing feature on my phone.

I have an iphone 6, so it's not the latest and greatest. My favorite program is installed as an app, OneNote. I open up a new page, click the microphone next to the space bar and just talk. It is extremely accurate. I make very few changes.

Since OneNote is in the cloud, I can then go to any computer, and make any changes to it prior to publishing it.

It's been a great work around to Dragon for me. I love that I can just use my phone to create content. I'm a pacer. So I just walk and talk. Eventually I'll learn to sit in one place and talk using Dragon. Until then, I'll continue to use my phone to create content.

I'd like to note, that I didn't start using my phone until Leo planted the idea for me. So, thanks, Leo!

Hi Leo, it's about a week now that I am reading reviews about the Dragon Naturally Speaking. I write so much content that my finger and my wrists are in pain. I took a break and I also do some exercises so I can go back to work as soon as possible:)
Can you tell me which Dragon version do you use? Professional, Home, Premium or other?? It would be very helpful to know:)

Thank you very much

Google Drive has free dication capability and works just as well.

I mean no disrespect, but Dragon Dictate does have an affiliate program. Is this an affiliate link? Because I thought those weren't allowed in our blog posts.

My issue is not being able to type quickly enough.
My issue is that it takes a lot of time to do the research and bring the content in a plausible sequence.

I have to do thorough research and compare different sources before I just can sit down and write. Oh, how I wish I could just speak and the words pours out like a waterfall.

I'm happy it works out so well for you Leo!!
I guess I just must practise more.
:-)

Once I have my keyword (phrase) I then create the sub headings and then I simply add the content (dictate) to each sub heading.
Reply
N33 Premium
It is the same for me, Pernilla, I can type very quickly once the text is done, after the research has been thoroughly done, after ..., after...
I guess once we master the subject, the rest is just speaking (lol)
Reply

I'm the same way and take too much time on the research end of things -- and putting it all together. Then I have to create a graphic in Canva and select photos and before I know it, 3 hours have gone by...!

I have tried Windows' speech recognition and found that you have to be very patient in order to have it recognize your voice. On the other hand, Google docs "voice typing" which is very smart and understands my English accent much better than Windows :)

But your performance of 1788 in 11 minutes is remarkable Leo!

Dragon is probably the best, I haven't got around to test it yet, but it's in the plans.

When I think about it, I've always been a visual writer. I sort a need to see what I've written. I think it helps the creative process for me.

Do you dictate from notes or do you just wing it? Was the transition to this form of content creation easy for you or did it take awhile for you to make the transition?

It takes a while to get used to Dragon. But it provides a transcript for you to read while you are dictating.

I would have to read it to believe it was of high quality. The conventions and requirements for quality written information are different and less forgiving than a conversation with a friend.

Sorry, I know Dragon Speak pretty well and it can be good to get ideas down in a flow of consciousness but then requires considerable editing in my experience.

I say this having known people that could type final copy as a first draft, But they are few and far between.
