Your First 6 Months With A Niche Site

Hello, WAmily!
I read a very interesting article yesterday so I wanna share with you the main thing what stayed in my mind from that.
It was titled something like the first six months of blogging. The six months were broken down to three periods: the first month, second to third month and fourth to sixth month.

In the first month, you are in the "sandbox" which means it is almost impossible for you to rank well as google doesn't consider you an authority. You've just started.

In the 2nd and 3rd months, you have to keep adding a lot of content and just go on. You don't see any results, same as in the first month. You probably won't get any organic traffic if you don't count 1 or 2 clicks now and then. However, you can get some traffic if you share your posts on social media. I personally think it is the toughest time because you are doing your best but still can't outrank the big players.

In the 4th and 6th months you see some traffic increase and things start to change.

This all counts under the condition that you are doing everything right. You are choosing

keywords wisely, as we are advised, you are writing good-quality and valuable content for your audience.

There is, of course, a chance you are doing something wrong and even after 6 months there is no big difference and you feel like you are writing for yourself.

But there is always hope!

We all make mistakes so don't ever think you are not good enough or you can't make it. You can! You can ask for feedback and keep improving your skills, be it writing, learning how to work with various social media or something else.

Never quit because if you do, there won't be ANY chance. Look at it in long term, if you persist for a few years, it is almost guaranteed that you'll make it! Google rewards time and authority. When your website is a few years old, it will be a different story! Everything will go easier.

Just persist! Winners never quit.

Wish you all a magnificent week!
Lenka

P.S. In what stage are you with your website? Are you seeing results?

I'm currently in the "sandbox" phase. My site is just over 2 weeks old, and has 10 articles at the moment. 7 are indexed.

Reading this post has given me a bit of encouragement though. It's easy to get discouraged when you type in your target keywords into search and your site is nowhere to be found. Ranking is currently my biggest worry, because without that, I can't get traffic.

Don't worry (I know it's easy to say, though, and not so easy to not worry). But it absolutely is a positive sign, that most of your posts are already indexed.

You will get ranked too, eventually! It just won't happen with a 2 weeks old website (it is unlikely), but getting indexed is already a huge success at that point.

Besides, it sounds like you are working hard; 10 posts in 2 weeks, that's 5 posts a week! Impressive! I haven't been able to publish that many posts a week. You are publishing so frequently, that you will gain success even faster. Keep up the good work!

My latest site is just five weeks old, it's not a big difference :) Don't worry, the "old" guys here say it's almost impossible to get good ranks in the beginning, it really takes months. Give it half a year and you'll see a big difference.
10 posts in such a short time, that's a heroic performance! Kudos to you!

Thanks for the encouraging words! You are right, 2 weeks isn't long enough to be ranked. Got to build that trust and authority with google first!.

Thanks for the encouragement! Guess we just have to keep moving forward and not give up. Good luck with your new site!

The time it takes for your blog to take off depends on various factors.

I've spoken to a blogger (non-WA member) who wrote into what he called "ghost town" for numerous months with very little results.

But his site broke through at the 7-month mark - making him $1,000/month.

Everyone's journey's different. But he was persistent and got rewarded as a result. :)

That's very encouraging, Neil, thank you for sharing this! I don't mind writing in ghost town if I get that result. Seven months would be great.

Haha, no problem. Can't remember his niche, but it's doable. Depends on economics too: If you're promoting big ticket products like home gyms for example, you need less traffic and people to buy from you.

Great post. I am at the stage of 40 posts and working on trying to add one a week. Not as many as I would like but I am back to work and tired at the end of the day, to say the least. Also since I can drive I take the kids everywhere since my wife had done it while I couldn't drive for those 16 or so weeks. It's a work in progress and we can work at our own pace at least.

Douglas, you are doing great, 40 posts is a decent amount after all! Take your time, it will all pay off sooner or later!

Thanks I am hopeful for that.

Hi Lanka

A very well written post will great information
Thank you for sharing this

I'm at the ground work stage with my website on here, I have two other sites running and now what I'm learning here I will change them asap well to see if I can improve them as well

All the best

Ross

That's great, Ross! The knowledge we learn here is huge and we can apply it to any websites.
Best of luck!

This sounds like a good measuring stick to track progress with. I think that most of us initially don't have a good estimate of where we should be in two, four, or six months.

I'm closing in on nine months with my site - but my writing output in the first few months was very slow, and even today, I'm only producing content every other week because of the research and my schedule. But I'm working on improving that.

Thanks for the helpful post, Lenka!
Isaiah 😊

We have absolutely no chance to see where we are after just a few month, you are right on that, Isaiah! We just have to keep the faith and go on. Main thing is we are ready to learn and keep going. One day, the first sale will come. And then more.
I believe!
