It Takes Time To Build A Business
I've just felt inspiration to write this post when I was reading Jeff's latest post. It is about time and value.
It seems to me like I'm repeating myself sometimes but I still think many need to see or hear this.
When you start a business, do you think you will make big money in a few months? Or in a year? Yeah, if you work your butt of and put a lot of money into advertising, you might start seeing good money coming in one year. Depending on what business you are in.
Let alone the expenses you have to put in! Premises, equipment, that's a lot!
So how can someone expect start earning big money in a few months? Do you think the hundreds or thousands of sites that have been out there for years will just disappear and you will take their place?
Do you know why google ranks old websites better? I'm not google but I think it's obvious. It is because they have proven they take their work seriously. They didn't publish a few articles and ran away. They keep posting regularly.
It takes time to gain authority. Even if you post ten or twenty articles, it is still nothing compared to those who have hundreds of articles. They have proven to google that they are serious and put consistent effort to it.
I think itś good to set a goal for yourself that is achievable.
Like having 100 articles by the end of the year. Or in six months.
It depends on your circumstances.
Also, make a commitment not to stop until you start making full-time income with this venture. Even then you shouldn't stop. But you can always sell your website if you get bored with your niche let's say in 10 years.
But don't expect making money for several months.
If you do make some, it will be a nice surprise.
Online business is a serious thing like any other business. We know this is not a get-rich-quick scheme. But when you persist, you can create something valuable for your future!

I totally agree with your post.
As a new member and full time worker, I sometimes feel that I want to quit or disappointed at slow progress.
But the truth is that I need to put a lot of efforts and time on this business in order to succeed.

Jay, I know it is hard when you have a full time job and don't have much time left for this venture. But it is always better to work let's say one hour a day on this than doing nothing. Even with little time you still have advantage over those who do nothing. In one year of consistent learning and building something up you will have a lot of knowledge.

To tell the truth when I thought about making money on the internet at the very beginning, I didn't think it could be difficult. I was full of illusions. But when I started to put myself to work I quickly understood where I had set foot and my illusions of easy money were quickly gone. Easy money does not exist and work is salvation for a rich life without financial constraints.

You are right, the work we put in is the price we have to pay to have freedom and it is well worth to work hard for that for a year or two.
Agree w/ Lenka wholeheartedly. This is for you new comers. This is a real business people, so treat it like one. Your current simple looking blog will turn into a large authority site if you follow the plan and stick to publishing your content on a consistent basis.
After the 100 articles mark, it becomes very easy to whip up articles and publish anyway. And that is the point at which your site's traffic will continue to exponentially rise. After a year of consistently doing this your traffic will EXPLODE. It's like Google finally flips the switch on!
Real life example: 1.5 years later nearly 12,000 visits per day. $4,000+/per month profit from just AdSense. This doesn't even include affiliate sales.
So like Lenka says, make a commitment not to stop!

I love this post! What you write about is so true. There are many other online marketing companies out there that promise overnight riches: “if you sign up with us, you can be driving this Lamborghini and living in a mansion in 3 months!” It’s one of the things I initially liked about WA: I was told the truth. No flashy promises. We have to roll our sleeves up and put in the work. Every day!! I’m looking at this business venture like a marriage. For better or for worse, through sickness and in health....

This is a serious thing indeed. Im more than 6 months here and Im still figuring out the possibilities. I find it quite funny when people ask "What kind of job is that if you don't make any money?"
I guess the best answer is "Wait until you see." Until then, lets write some content and push towards our end goal. Thanks for sharing this very important principle for a successful business!

Nikola, thank you for your insights! Yeah, I think the longer you are in it, the more you see how much is still to be learned, applied etc. It can't be all learned and done in a month. And I think there's no rush anyway, the only thing that matters is to keep going forward, keep learning and doing small steps every day.
