Boost Your Confidence If It's Not Big Enough

This is going to be a short post. Well, I always think so but it might not end up that short in the end. Nevertheless, my intention is to write rather short posts so let's see how it goes.

Why short? Because I don't like too much fluff. When I talk, I always go straight to the point and don't beat around the bush. Now you might understand why I don't like when someone does.

But let's get to the topic of confidence.

It's been a fascinating question for me for almost all of my life, why some people are confident since a very young age and some are not.

You see, some people managed to achieve a lot and could be very confident and yet they have doubts if they are good enough.

Others, on the contrary, haven't achieved much, have no goals, not much to be proud of and yet they are confident thinking of themselves as the best ones.

Why's that? Well, in my opinion it is very much connected with upbringing but it is also inborn to a great degree. I wouldn't say that if I didn't have the opportunity to see one of my best friends growing up next to me, since the age of 4, always being very confident.

I always looked up to her. Always thought she was prettier and wanted to be like her. It's ridiculous because when I look at our old school pictures, I think now that I was quite pretty. But she was about 100% more confident than I was.

She is now a very successful dentist and owner of a dental clinic, a rich and wise person as well. Great at her job, and a dog lover like me. I think she's so successful because she has always been confident.

If we are not confident enough, it's hard to become successful, in my opinion. We need to trust in our skills and see how unique we are. Not have doubts.

But the good news is we can work on our confidence if it's not an innate part of us or if we feel lack confidence to write (or to succeed).

So what helps to boost our confidence? Here are my tips:

1. Make a list of your achievements. You might think you haven't achieved much. But I'm sure you have.
Have you finished high school?
Have you brought up your child (children) the best way you can?
Are you a single mom/father who gives your child all the love and care and teaches them the best values?
Have you adopted a dog or cat?
Have you learned how to drive a car?
Have you get rid of a bad habit?
All that is an achievement.
Write your list and you will be more proud of yourself.

2. Don't compare yourself with anyone else. Look at how different we all are here at WA. Some people are more business-oriented, some are more philosophical, some are very practical. Everyone is unique in their own way. No one is better or worse. We all have our value!
And it is so nice to see how different we are. Embrace your uniqueness, there is no one else like you.

3. Keep learning. Every time you learn something new, it boosts your confidence because you feel the enthusiasm of a new accomplishment. You just feel good.

4. Start writing WA posts (if you haven't already). I can't stress enough how that boosts your confidence. The atmosphere here is so nice, no one is going to criticize you for your opinions, you always get a good feedback, flood of ideas, sharing of experience.

You can share both achievements and failures, doubts, worries, feelings when you are down. You will also chisel and hone your writing skills because only few of us here (exclusive me) are writers who have been writing continuously before joining WA.

But your writing will improve in time, and so will your confidence!

Did I not say that it would be a short post? Strange, when I write for my websites, one thousand words seems like a million words but here I've just written over 700 words like nothing. WA writing does miracles.

All for now then, I'm off to boost my confidence with tip # 3. Learning Spanish, you know. Having my Skype lesson tomorrow, I need to refresh my vocabulary and switch my brain from English to Spanish.

Wish you a nice morning/evening, my WA friends!

Love
Lenka

Writing a post yes Dear Lenka. That's confirmation.

It might be 2 weeks to finish my work outside in the precious cool of early mornings. Up at 4:30 am, I trade sleep time for work time, and down again about 9:30 or 10. Temperature in the low 100's.

t's Arizona, adapt or fry.
Thank you Lenka, Suzay

I could say adapt or freeze about my country, Suzay. I know there are countries with colder temperatures but 10 celsius (about 50 fahrenheit) in this time of year is not my idea of ideal weather.
But yes, we have to adapt.
Have a nice day, my friend.

Thank you for your insightful post, Lenka. I have never really thought of raising my son as an accomplishment, but I guess it is. I need to work on my confidence more. I'm confident in my writing skills, but in the technical skills I am not. That's where learning that you mentioned comes in. Once again thank you for your post.

Take care
Charlotte

Raising your son definitely is an accomplishment, Charlotte. I'm sure you did your best.
Each of us is good at something and worse on something else. Nothing wrong with that. Nobody is perfect. But we are still blessed.

'Bottom of the ninth' and you've smashed it out of the park. Awesome post Lenka.
It's all so true. Confidence is built out from within. Giving ourselves credit for all that we have achieved, is one sure way of making us feel better about who we are.
We should embrace our uniqueness, as you say, there is only one of us, and that's in the whole wide world and on the world wide web.

Smashed it out of the park. Another nice one I didn't know :)
Thank you.
It's interesting how quickly I managed to write this post. It was just flowing, ready in 15 minutes or so.
Yeah, we should always give ourselves credit, all of us, even for trying new things, for not conforming, for having dreams.

You're welcome. I always know when I'm 'on one' or in the zone, as the spell checker as very little to do, weirdly.

Chiming in like a broken record, when it comes to the online world never feel the need to justify our position or outlook.

A good place to start the confidence ball rolling is not to compare ourselves to our fellow travelers.

Some excellent points, Lenka, enjoyed reading your insights.

Alex

Easier said than done, isn't it, Alex :) Thanks for your insights!

Lenka great post I particularly like not comparing with others its pointless and meaningless we are all different learn and grow and develop at different speeds. I was useless at school but woke up in my mid twenties made some key decisions and never looked back in a pretty successful career.

Really enjoyed your post thanks for sharing🧐

I'm glad you enjoyed reading my post, Jim. Yeah, everyone's path is difference and that's why I never judge people and do not think titles and degrees are of much importance. It is about what we do with our lives.
You were lucky to "wake up" so early, some people take much longer (or don't get it at all 😊)
