I’m using my iPhone to do everything as I don’t have a computer right now. I’m having a lot of difficulty editing the menus on my website I’ve just crea

If it's a responsive theme, that means it's mobile-friendly. Menus should look different on computers than they do on mobile devices, that's how they're supposed to look (to allow more room for content and to facilitate tapping the menu items with your fingers).

Check the attached images to see how my website's menu differs on each version/device.

If the theme says that it’s responsive, you’re fine. Make sure yours is. Anyway, any site on mobile looks a little bit different than on desktop but the same steps on desktop for editing menus should apply for mobile.
As far as I know, many people have no good experience using WordPress on mobile.

How much do you have to pay to become an affiliate with a company once you set up your site and you’re ready to add affiliate links?

Pay to become an affiliate? Generally speaking, as far as companies are concerned, people should never have to pay to work for someone else. If you have found anyone asking you money to become their affiliate, run away fast! If you have found some company requiring you to buy their product / be an active paying member to become their affiliate, that could be their way of making sure only people who really know their products are suitable to promote them. But you need to your due diligence first to be 100% sure that that's the case -- beware of scams.

Check out Amazon's Affiliate Program. It's free to join. Again, you don't have to pay to become an affiliate, especially when you're just starting out.

Being an affiliate means you will be promoting someone else's products. It's basically the same thing as working as their publicist or marketer or public relations person, you're promoting their stuff, you'd be working for them as part of their sales force. They are the ones who will pay you whenever someone buys something after clicking your personal and unique affiliate link to their product's sale page.

Ahhh thank you, that makes perfect sense! Man this community is awesome and so helpful 😁

It doesn't usually cost anything to become an affiliate. The only exception is that some places want you to either be a member or have purchased a product before you promote them. (WA, for instance.)

I think that's so you know what the product is all about before you promote it.

But, in most cases, you won't pay anything.

- Christina

Thanks for the information, I was just wondering as I am starting off with quite literally nothing and wanted to be sure it was possible to get going on nothing.

It is possible to get going with nothing. Eventually you will need to make some investments. Websites with their own domain names do better, for instance.

But you can start for free, build out our site and learn the basics so that you have an idea of how it all works.

- Christina

Yes ideally I will be able to eventually make enough with the free versions of everything to cover the future costs of better paid versions. I definitely would love to become a premium member here, so that would be among my first “upgrades” once I am able to start making money. The free version of WA is absolutely amazing so I can only imagine how much the paid subscription will benefit me, it’s very exciting to think about. I’ve been researching how to make an income online for years off and on and for the past several months consistently (all day every day haha I got determined) and the one day I have been a part of WA has been more informative and answered more of my questions than all of that time researching!

I don't fully agree. I remember there is an option where you can promote Wealthy Affiliate even as a Starter (non-paying) member. Same thing for Jaaxy (part of the WA company). I'm not a paying member there but I am their affiliate.

Besides, what you're paying here is your student fee to have access to WA's training material, not necessarily their affiliate program.

Nevertheless and it goes without saying, for the sake of honesty to their audience, affiliates should always have used, tried or purchased the products they are promoting and only recommend those who they truly believe are worth it.

Otherwise, they'll failing their first and most important premise: to help solve their visitor's/reader's/customer's problems or answer their questions.

Oh yes, I think you're right about that. There is a way to promote WA as a free member. I'm (obviously) not too clear on the details of how that works. haha But now that you say it, I do remember hearing of that option.

- Christina

Right! :) But, indeed, there are some programs out there that require you to be a paying member. I said "run away fast" in a previous comment (referring to any company asking you money to work for them) but, as far as affiliate programs are concerned not all of them who require you to be a paying member are necessarily scams.

In fact, some of the most legit ones do require people to buy their product or be active paying members to make sure their affiliates are really there for good reasons, that they really know those companies' products or services (not just for the sake of making easy money promoting everything you can get your hands on). (Restricted access = higher quality affiliates.)

Depends on what companies you want to join. You could join this company I use for FREE and get paid 40% commission on there products. http://bit.ly/2MDbhED

Every company is different some charge to become affiliate. Others want you to have website that would help them and that your website is similar and will work with there products

Just a friendly reminder...that's an affiliate link, and you're not allowed to add that here.

- Christina

Hi - please remove your link. It is not permitted. Thank you.

Is the link a scam?

Hi - it's not a scam, but it is an affiliate link. So, if you join the program, he will get a commission. That type of promotion is not allowed here, you cannot promote anything to other members. And it's particularly unfair to do this to new members who won't realise. If somebody continues to do this, they will be reported and eventually banned.

Oh ok! Thank you for helping me understand :)

WA Affiliate Program

I’m a little confused, does WA help me set up an online store or is this for bloggers?

Wealthy Affiliate's main focus is affiliate marketing, really. Meaning, promoting someone's else product and earn a commission (at no extra cost to the end buyer) from your efforts every time someone purchases a product through your unique affiliate link.

One of the best ways to do affiliate marketing is by building a niche website, which is nothing more than a blog focused on a single niche (subset of a larger market.) And that's precisely the approach they teach us here: how to build a blog for affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing could be just the first step, though. You could grow your expertise up until the point you start selling your own products.

(Even online stores could/should use a blog for many reasons including climbing the search engine rankings and content marketing.)

For future reference, would I be selling my own products on the same website as my blog or would I be using my blog to input links to my products as I would be doing with affiliate marketing?

First, just to clear any possible doubts anyone might be having here: a blog is a website. A website could be a blog or an online store or a forum or something like Wikipedia. Or even an online store with a blog section.

Second, both. Selling your own products on your website + adding a blog to it in order to send readers/visitors to your own products.

Say you're in the Cycling market and your niche is Bicycles for kids up to 10. You could build a website where you would list your products (online store section) and publish content on the subject (blog section) like "Top 5 Best Bicycles Under $100 for Kids" (here you could link each of the best 5 items to each product's sales page) and more informational-type content like "Safety Precautions for Kids Riding Bicycles", "Best Places for Kids to Ride Their Bicycle in Miami" to bring people to your blog and then drive them your online store or to your "Top 5 Bicycles" article.

There might be some training modules created by other members on building an online store but the main focus of WA's training is on building an online affiliate marketing business.

Blogging is just a way of attracting traffic to your website through search engines for free. You can have an online store and use blogging to get your products in front of your customers in order to make money.

If you want an online store and no blogging, then WA is probably not the place to be...

However, be aware that when it comes to building a successful online store, most courses will teach you how to attract traffic to your offers through paid ads.

Paid ads require a budget.

If you have a budget to invest, then by all means.

If not, you'll have to figure out a way to attract customers for free and there's no better way than blogging.

Unfortunately, you can't have the pie and eat it too ;)

I hope this helps,

Xaric

P.S. a quote that keeps me motivated because I don't really enjoy blogging 100% either,

"Sometimes to get the things you want, you have to do some things you don't want"

Hi - some element of writing is required, as this is how you will attract potential customers. Otherwise, you will be just another online store among the millions already out there. Writing blog posts gives people something to find in Google searches.

It's completely up to you! It's your business and you have all the support here to assist you in what you choose to do.

Chris

WA will help you set up anything you want. You start with your website, and depending on what niche you choose, you go from there. Even bloggers use websites! :)
Have fun,
Suzanne
