As One Door Opens, Another Business Closes!

Sometimes as business owners we tend to fall into the belief that we can't possibly give up at whatever it is we're trying to create. Failure, to many, is the place one can never venture. But is failure really all that it's cracked up to be?

If we confine ourselves to linear thinking such as going from point "A" to point "B" without any chance for making improvisational choices along the way, are we ever really thinking "out of the box"?

I've always been one who works hard to get what I want. But there comes a time when you realize that all of your hard work isn't really getting you where you want to be. I began working at the age of 12 as an employee on a shooting range, something I really loved. From there I progressed in the business world as a exceptional employee until 1995, when I went out on my own to create my first home-based business.

I worked 20 hours a day in order to keep my position as a Sr. Civil Engineering Tech so I could build capital in my Civil Design service business. I purchased over six thousand dollars worth of software to complete the task I knew could skyrocket me to success.

Fifteen years and many "six-figures" later, the construction industry took a terrible face-plant in Michigan. On top of that I was going through a divorce and found myself in a position I didn't want to be in. I needed a J-O-B. While it was detrimental to my ego more than my wallet, I knew I had to take the necessary steps to keep up with my financial obligations.

After remarrying, and six years of working for yet another Civil Engineering firm, working as a part-time fireman (starting just before 9-11) and working part-time as a Cadd Tech for other engineers, I found that working to please others was burning me out. My marriage to what I discovered was a felon thief, was burning down also. So I quit it all.

After my 2nd divorce, I collected unemployment for nearly 2 years before meeting the love of my life. We struggled at first, but in 2012 I went into an intense period of internet marketing training that opened my eyes to what I was missing. Reluctant to say, I tried to do things my own way and in the process, everything I was building kind of backfired on me. My brand wasn't working the way I intended it to. I was trying to be a "rock-star" marketer, rather than just being myself. I made some waves, then flat-lined.

To make matters "worse" in 2014 we decided to buy out an automotive detail shop from our daughter's boyfriend as a means to build some capital for my marketing endeavors. Within short-time we realized that not only was our business draining me physically, but dealing with employees and customers was taking a big bite out of the time I was originally anticipating to dedicate to becoming a successful affiliate marketer.

It's been a year and a half, and even though we built a small business that was able to create six-figures in sales on the surface, we realized that the profit margin due to overhead was keeping us from getting to the place we wanted to be.

With all that said, we've decided it's time to close shop. Some would say we failed, but we simply don't feel that way, we were never really passionate about what we were doing. So we're taking what little profits we have left and moving on. My marketing efforts have taken on a new life of their own since leaving MLSP and joining WA and I see bigger and brighter things ahead. I'm happy to say I've finally found what it is that fits me BEST when it comes to online marketing.

It's not going to be an easy road at first, but we have faith that the true path we're about to voyage down is going to bring us to the place we've always wanted to be... comfortable, financially free, and without concern for where the next check will come from. I have a couple-few months of hard work ahead of me, but the foundation is in place and as we all know, we reap what we sow.

I look forward to keeping you all updated on my progress and can't wait to see where this takes off for you along the way!

Keep your heads high and never forget that we are all magnificent in our own individual way. It's what I love about niche marketing, you can never put someone in a box and tell them they have to follow the herd!

Have faith in yourself and your abilities, you will gain what you seek if you never compromise your standards.

As of June 30th, one door closes in our lives and on July 1st, 2015, the most exciting and most anticipated door opens it's opportunity to us! I hope you all find that door that supports your passion when you turn that knob and walk inside!

I'll see you on the inside and meet you at the top!

Leland

This is all experience and learning to be a better person in our lifes journey. Best wishes for your future endeavours.

Thanks for that!

Lot's of food for thought here. Thanks for sharing your heart.

'Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time' ----Thomas Edison
Success comes to those who keep trying and you are!

Not many realize how much Edison had to offer in is words, probably just as much as he did with his lightbulb!

Leland, I hope this door that has opened for you is a very successful one. I also believe when one door closes God always opens another if it is meant to be. I have had several doors close and another open and I feel that God helped me find WA so that I can be successful here also. Thanks for the inspirational blog.

Your so very welcome! There's a little bit of the Almighty in all of us, it's when we become what was always meant to be that we see what we're capable of... thanks for stopping by!

Thank you for sharing your story Leland. This is heartening to learn that I had not failed, but as you say, one door closes, another opens. God bless.......

The actual definition of failure is "lack of success". How can one determine if they've completely failed?

It's when they give up and give in to the idea that they cannot succeed! Never stop giving it your all and you'll never fail! :)

The only people who truly fail are those that quit trying.

Thank you for the encouragement Leland, you're just the ones which keeps me here. Blessings never ending for you......

I always tell folks that there is no such thing as "Failure". If you gain knowledge from it, then it becomes "Learning Experience". Cool post, Leland.

Absolutely right Larry. I would agree 100%! Thanks.

Nice post Leland - really liked it!

thanks G :)

I like what you said. Very true leland. Thanks for the inspiration it spoke volumes to me .

Love it when the keys under my fingers reach out to someone!

You are right Leland. Just because something doesn't work out does NOT mean you failed. It just wasn't the right place and or time. Thanks for the inspiration!

Too many look at setbacks as "failures", they're just growing pains...

Excellent word spoken, Leland! Failure is just a chance to succeed.

What some call "failing forward"... ;)

Absolutely!

Great post!

Thanks Shawn!
