Managing your time effectively

Here’s the thing, all we have to get stuff done in a day is 24 hours, of which approximately 8 of those hours we spend sleeping, a further 2 hours you can put down to eating, having smoke breaks or going to the toilet, leaving us roughly only 14 hours in the day.

So learning to manage your time effectively is paramount to creating and achieving success in your endeavours.

Here are 10 key steps that help’s me manage my time effectively:

1. Know what you want. First and foremost, you have to know what YOU want. You can't structure your time effectively if you don't understand what your dreams, goals and challenges are. What are you willing to do to achieve that?

2. Create an action plan. When you plan to do something, create an action plan and give it all your focus.

3. Structure your time. Dedicate a certain amount of time to each task.

4. Do the hard things first. Difficult tasks require more discipline. If you commit to doing the hardest things first, you will end up doing them with greater consistency.

5. Create deadlines. It is very important to have deadlines, having deadlines helps achieve goals. Make your deadlines challenging but realistic.

6. Overcome procrastination. Procrastination is the number 1 enemy that stands in the way of achieving your goals, it happens to all of us. Stay focussed; keep your goals in mind!

7. Don’t waste time on wasting time. If there are things that you do that completely waste your time and are not productive, stop doing them..

8. Build proficiency. Learn how to be more proficient in your daily tasks, because the better you get at them, the less time they'll take.

9. Reward yourself. When you complete a set of tasks, give yourself a reward.

10. Take time to recharge. Being overworked causes stress which in turns slows you down wasting time. Make time to recoup to recharge so you are more efficient at the tasks at hand.
