Newbie Videos-Take One, Two, Three
Since my joining Wealthy Affiliate, I never even thought of doing a video to help with getting traffic or for promotional reasons.
In the SWAG challenge, Kyle has us focusing on creating videos. This is the reason for my title newbie videos, take one, two, three.
Getting The Courage Up
Doing a video is really some scary stuff to me. It isn't just my voice (which I hate), it is the whole thought process.
I could see myself fumbling my words and sounded like an idiot. Having to start over again and again.
Kyle as well as others say that it needs to be natural and not sound like it was rehearsed. OMG how do I do that?
To me, creating a video would be equivalent to having to give a speech in front of a crowd of hundreds of strangers.
Many of us who are in this challenge have said how we are really nervous about creating a video.
Of course there are other members who give encouragement as well as some "how to" pointers.
So how can I get up enough courage to do this? I have been trying to talk myself into it since the new task came out.
A Damsel In Distress
I have been working on my pitch page (which was due for last months task). I received a comment on my training I had done on adding images.
Since it was on training that I created, I wanted to make sure that I answered in case they needed additional help.
Knowing how frustrating it can be, I would never want to ignore them if they needed help. We all know that it is hard to move on sometimes unless you complete the task at hand.
This really sweet member did end up needing help. I did my best to walk her through until she needed help with drag and drop.
This wasn't really covered in the training I had created. I searched for training from other members with no luck.
I was actually getting ready to leave for open house at my daughters school and my oldest daughter has football practice every weekday.
My Aha Moment
Since the whole video thing has been really weighing on my mind and Ms Daisy needed help, that was my aha moment.
I told her I would do some research and try to create a video for her. I couldn't let her down now.
As soon as we returned home, I went to work on it. I had already found that I could use QuickTime on my MAC in order to do it.
I just needed to read up on it a little more and get my nerve up to try. Of course, I spent more time trying to find where the stop button went, than I did doing the actual recording.
I finally figured it out and I went full steam ahead. After my first take on it, I was so nervous. Then I listened to it ,
Hmm, it wasn't near as bad as I thought, but then I had of course stumbled for words and therefore this led to take two, take three and I believe a couple more.
Not realizing that I now have like 5 pictures of JerryHuang now in my recent images. But this is OK, since he has been such a BIG help with my pitch page.
I Took The Bull By The Horns
I did it. I created my first video. I did not show my face, and even though I hate my voice, I did it for the lovely lady that you see below.
Daisy, I owe you one my friend. This gave me the courage to do what I never though I would be able to do.
Thanks to you and my desire to get you through your adding image dilemma, I created my very first video.
You gave me the courage to grab that bull by the horns and defeat it.
Thank you. I just have to apologize though. I didn't demonstrate one thing, but I will create another video.
The moral of this story is, you never know until you try. You need to remember, we are always trying new things. Especially in this business and since we are learning HOW to build our business.
Kyle isn't going to steer us wrong with what he suggests for us to try. Creating a video is like anything that you are doing for the first time, it takes practice.
If I can do it, you can do it as well. Even if it was a really short one. I am actually ready to do a second one, that will go along with the first one.
I am adding the link and would love to know what you think and I definitely welcome any and all feedback.
The fan on my computer kicks on every time I try to do a screen recording. I don't understand why, so please forgive me when you hear it in the video.

Hi Lee Ann, Watched your video and learnt from it so that is good. I have had to make many presentations, and yes I have had to do the one to an audience of over 500. Please don’t think I am bragging, I just wanted to explain how I managed this because I am by nature shy and you know what that can mean - trembling hands, not being able to speak and so on. So how did I get round this in my corporate life – one word – rehearse. In my office with the doors closed, in my house to my long suffering wife, walking the dogs although they did not give me much feedback. Seriously this rehearsing makes you comfortable with yourself when you do the video or presentation – it works. I still do this now here in WA, maybe twice or three times. I also would like to mention something I saw in a Jeff Walker video where he said that he does not use a script apart from the start and the end, in between he is free speaking, because he is comfortable with his topic. This can also come from rehearsing. He also said that it is not the polished quality people look for it is the content that is important. I know the terror you can go through when making a video, been there and got the T, so I hope this will help you going forward – rehearse! Best regards, Hudson.
Wow, thank you so much Hudson. This is great advice and is definitely worth giving it a try.
I don't think you are bragging at all. You are using your own experience to help me.
I do have to admit, I am not as scared now that I have created 2 videos.
The true test will be when I create one for a review or a comparison on something I knew nothing about until I did the research.
That is where your advice will definitely help/
Thank you again : )

Thanks Lee Ann, for sharing your fear.
I saw the video and found it quite helpful...never would have guessed you were the least bit uncomfortable!
This task is a way down the road for me but I already know I too will be extremely nervous as this is outside my comfort zone.
Kyle Ann
Kyle Ann, YOU CAN DO IT : )
We are what makes it to be a scary adventure.
Like you said it is out of our comfort zone so we avoid it.
I know you can do it. You can even start now. That way you have already gotten the first one out of the way.
I promise you, it is not near as bad as I thought it would be. Start with a really short on if you want.
We are always told that we need to face our fear. I am really glad that I faced that one. I am sure it will be of great help with my business : )
When you decide to do it, just know I am cheering you on. You got this.
Lee Ann
This is a very inspiring post as I seem to be avoiding The SWAG challenge... it terrifies me but I know it has to be done.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen
Hello Karen,
I know exactly what you mean my friend.
I just really wanted to help her out since I have gone through the same issue she was having.
For me, seeing is much easier than reading. I had rather watch something be done than to just read it being done.
It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. BUT, it was also a really short video on something that I knew how to do.
A video for a review or promotion, now that will be a different story.
it will take more practice, but I am definitely not AS scared to do it. I am just a little scared : )
I know that you can do it as well. Find a nice quiet spot and just play around with it. Once you get that first one done, it might put your mind at ease.

I have done one with me in it and one with just my voice... they have been filed under never to be seen again ...lol
Excellent post, which made very enjoyable reading, thanks for sharing Lee. Video Marketing is awesome and online, the next best thing to face to face meeting.
Thank you for taking the time for this Dave and I do agree with you.
I do feel better about it now that I have the first one completed.
I do know that I had sometimes rather watch than to read. It just depends on what the topic is.
i do have a little more faith now and I look forward to trying to complete the SWAG task now.

Many people don't appreciate the sound of their own voice Lee Ann. It is far better to let others decide for you.
You have heard the same voice all of your life, but others haven't.
I wish you success with your video journey.
Derek
I know you are right about this Derek.
What you say makes sense, we just don't think about it like that.
Your words have truly helped my friend and I thank you for that.

Hi Lee Ann. You're right - it wasn't near as bad as you thought. This was actually a very good first go at it, I think. You've done something that I haven't been brave enough to attempt yet. Good that you forgot to mention the other thing that you wanted to, so now you have to create a second video.
After that you will have the confidence to make a third, a fourth and before you realize what has happened you'll look back and have a giggle about how nervous you were the first time.
I also want to give it a go sometime :)
Keep well.
Brian
Dear sweet Brian,
How did you not just talk yourself into doing it?
Just those few words has helped me immensely and I am now looking forward to that second video : )
Before we had to move I worked for a specialist group of two physicians.
We had switched from paper medical records to electronic medical records.
The physicians were used to talking into a recorder, but now they were to use dragon.
I would always think to myself how good they were at it. I could never imagine myself doing something like that.
I have a dictation tool on my laptop. I have tried once or twice but haven't really gotten a feel for it.
I felt the same way with doing a video, except once I finished it and watched it, I felt a little relief.
It was not near as bad as I thought it would be. I am willing to bet that if you just dive right in to it, you will feel the same.
There is no doubt in my mind that you can do it my friend. Take that bull by the horns : )
Let me know how it goes. I am in your cheering section rooting for you.

You are so kind, Lee Ann. I'll have to catch up to you. I have a program that I've fiddled around with just on my own and it's quite a lot of fun.
I'm going to follow your example and put my foot to the pedal.
I don't know "Dragon" but there are a few people at WA who use it. I know Marion was getting quite friendly with it a few months ago. I wonder how she is coming along with it?
Let us know when you publish video #2. :)
Brian
Thank you Brian. You are awesome.
Please be sure to let me know when you create your first video. I am so excited. I know you can do it : )
As for Dragon, I was just using it to go with my story : )

You have grown so much in the last couple of months Lee keep it up!!...It is quite the challenge but persist and you will get better,
your voice sounds ok to me so do not worry to much about it, that happens when you are starting out..because we are our worst critic..do a couple more and you will not notice it anymore.
I am doing that too, I do videos for my articles.so people can just listen rather then read...lol... started too anyway takes a bit of work but it will get there...
Wishing you the best....
My sweet friend Gus.
You know I always value your words and insight.
I will keep working at it.
Your encouragement means a lot to me.
I know your videos are good.
It makes since actually. I would rather listen instead of read sometimes.
Videos also mean less typing : )
Wishing you the best in al you so
Lee Ann
I viewed the training...it was well done. Good demo...your voice was clear and pleasant. Nice job.
Debbie
Thank you Debbie.
You are to kind.
I am just glad the first one is done and over with.
I just hope others will find it useful.

Hey LeeAnn,
I watched your video and thought it was awesome!!! I see why Kyle suggested for us to make one.
Tried and True
Elaine
Thank you Elaine.
That really means a lot to me.
If/when you go to give it a try, just do it.
It is just you and the device you are using.
Then once you watch it, you can decide if you want to publish it. I honestly think you will see that it really is easier than we thought.
Start with something small.
You can do it, I know you can : )
