Do I Stop Unwanted Emails

I have been getting so many emails lately from others that I did not subscribe to, nor do I even know.

I held off on doing a subscriber list for this very reason. I HATE how others feel free to send you whatever they want. Do I stop unwanted emails?

Not That Simple

In order to stop these emails, I have to now physically go in and unsubscribe from them. I personally think it is bull crap as I didn't subscribe in the first place.

I know it is a risk we take when we are using social media to try to promote our sites. But the rule is that we are supposed to click on that SUBSCRIBE button.

In order to go in and unsubscribe from them all, it means it will take me hours to go through and do this.

I have 5000 emails in my inbox. Why? I don't want to delete them all in fear of missing something important from the members here.

These unwanted emails, take up half of those 5000. No, that is not an exaggeration. During my time here, I have only subscribed to 3 people.

Yet my inbox is filled with emails "Lee, don't miss this", "Lee, in case you missed". OMG like seriously. I didn't miss anything because I never subscribed to you in the first place.

Trying To Solve The Issue

At first, I had intended to say the heck with it and delete every email that is in my inbox. This was in my fit of rage from noticing how many emails I have been getting and having to unsubscribe from them (even though I didn't subscribe in the first place).

I don't want to lose my messages from the members here at Wealthy Affiliate. Those messages are suffering due these spammers or whatever you want to call them.

I have decided to create a folder for Wealthy Affiliate only. I have fiddled around with it and have it officially set up.

I am so glad that I have the option to do this. The only issue, is the fact that I still have thousands of emails to go through and click the unsubscribe button.

Why Is Unsubscribe NOT Unsubscribe

Over the last week I have been going through emails and unsubscribing from them. In doing so, you start to remember ones that you have unsubscribed from previously.

So how do they still justify sending me these emails. Am I missing something? Has it always been like this?

I never really used my email except for schools, Facebook etc. Since I am a member here, I have had a lot more use for my email now.

It still does not give anyone the right to send me emails when I didn't ask for them or agree to them.

On that note, if I accidentally unsubscribe from those of you that I have subscribed to. and you notice it, I do apologize.

I am hoping this won't happen since I am not subscribed to that many of you. I will try to keep my cool while I am tackling this, but no guarantees.

Spam Folder For MAC

If I were using windows I know that I could just click on the email and highlight SPAM. With my MAC I have different colored flags.

I tried the red flag, but I would still receive messages from that same source. I know there has to be a way.

If someone here has a solution, it would be greatly appreciated. If not, I can Google it. I have had to do a lot of that as this is my first apple product.

I am OK with that though as it means I am learning and I am able to better my MAC skills. I have had to learn about being an online business as well as how to operate my laptop.

Learning is always good no matter what or how. This has been and is definitely a learning experience for me in many areas.

My rant for the month is officially over. I now have to figure out what happened to my site. It hasn't worked right all day.

I hope this wasn't to boring for you. If you have had any experience like this, feel free to share them down below.

Wishing you the best in all you do

Lee Ann

P.S.

I forgot to post this yesterday. My site is back to working at the moment. Thanks to our awesome SiteSuuport team/ Kudos to them.

I use MailWasher to check my emails before they even reach my inbox.

The only sure way of stopping emails is to blacklist them in your email provider.

I agree they are more than just a nuisance.

I have used folders for my emails for a long time which also helps.

Derek

Thank you Derek.
That is great advice and will be very useful.

I will check MailWasher out.

I really appreciate it : )

Hi Lee Ann,

I have been a MAC fan for years and I absolutely love it. I use Gmail for emails. I have a Spam box where all my spams automatically go to. Not sure how I set that up... anything I'm not familiar with goes there and they are really junk stuff. On a regular basis, I delete everything that is in there.

There was a time when I was getting a lot of WA emails and I couldn't keep up to them and yes I didn't want to delete them for fear of missing something. It kept building up and like you I had a ton of WA emails. I knew I would never be able to catch up and I finally deleted them all.

I also created another Gmail account specifically for WA and also changed my Gmail account in my WA account for this. Now all my WA emails go to that account. I don't get any emails from people outside of WA. I can now quickly go thru the WA emails I want to keep, help the members when I know I have the right answer and the ones I want to keep... well, I bookmark them in WA on their tutorials, etc.

This WA Gmail, I like to clean up daily so that I have no WA emails by the time my day is over. Ya...lol, I know, I think I'm anal!!

Hope this helps you.

Monica

Monica,
That is awesome and no, I don't think you are anal.
It drives me crazy to have so many emails.

I have gmail as well. I believed I synced it to my mac *I believe this is how it was set up).

So actually I think I know how to solve this spam issue for sure.
And I feel really silly that I didn't just do it from the start.

I will add the Gmail to my desktop and only use it.
I can send them to the spam folder there and be done with it.

Hope no one sees this : 0
Just been a stressful couple of days.

Thank you for your help and for sharing with us.
You have been a huge help.
I appreciate it

Hey Lee Ann,

Don't feel silly... You're doing great and we are here to learn from each other, work hard on our business and to help each other. ! I remember Kyle saying we're better to ask questions than not to. In fact, he said, there is no silly question.

I'm here for you!

Monica

You are a doll : )

Thank you Monica

Lee Ann

You're welcome Lee Ann,

Have a Blessed weekend... yeeehaaaa!!

Monica

I wish I had an answer! I just went through my email and deleted over 3000 emails! Many of them were unsolicited/not subscribed to! I hated to do it, but I had to delete a lot of email and I still have over 2500 in my inbox! I understand your frustration. I, too, use a Mac, but I am not sure how to block them. My spam catcher does get a lot of them, but... I think it is a never-ending battle!

Best wishes,
Karin :)

Karin,
I am glad I am not alone.
THank you for sharing with us.
I have never had so many unwanted emails in my life.
I had stated I had 5000 and I was wrong. It is almost 9000.

What the heck. I didn't realize you could get that many lol
Actually I did, but I never thought I would have that many.

What are you using as a spam catcher/blocker?
I am sure it won't end, but I at least need to get them under control : )

Thank you my friend

Good luck to you with unsubscribing from all of them. It's frustrating when you have to take time to do that when your time is better spent elsewhere!

Janelle

I know. I would be here a month of sundays.
Like you said, I have better places to spend my time.

I feel better since I know all of the WZ emails will go to their own folder. I won't have to worry about missing anything now.

Hope all is good with you my friend.

Lee Ann

Well said. Glad you got that off your chest.

Thank you.
I do feel better.

I will feel even better once I get rid of those emails : )

Thank you for taking the time for my rant.
Hope all is good there.

Lee Ann

I remember that, a time ago, that I was reading about a site which helped to unsubscribe to a whole lot of unwanted mails all at once. sorry, but I can not make up that name. But their is one and maybe someone else knows the name or knows how to research it.
Not much of a help, but I feel with you.
I am upset with my 60something since I am a member in WA.
Because I do not need another help anymore.
Good luck and I will search for this support site.

Thank you my friend.
You actually helped more than you think.
You have set a path for me to take : )

I can just Google it and I am sure I will come across something : )

I hope everything is going good for you
Lee Ann

Let us know how you're are going with it.
Makes me feel good actually that I was able to help.
Thank you for your kind words

Apple is it?.. they say it is the best computer in the world?...lol..I am a windows person myself..Sorry to hear of your problems there. You can, like you did with the WA folder create another folder and then create a filtered message rule on your email that will dump the emails you don't want to a particular folder so you do not see it in the primary inbox...that would be an option for you ..other then that you can always create another email and use that only to subscribe to anything you want to subscribe too..so it does not corrupt your first email account...hope this helps

Hello Gus,
That is what I thought to which is why I bought it.

I like your idea though. All I would have to do is send all the emails that say "lee" in them to that folder and that would get rid of half of the unwanted ones tight there : )

You are such a helpful guy.
Thank you my friend

Lee Ann

I agree with you. The junk I am getting that I have never signed up for has greatly increased. I unsubscribed to 10 different ones this afternoon. It stinks.

I know.
It is so easy to receive them, so why can/t it be as easy to get rid of them for good.
I keep getting them even though I unsubscribed.
Not all of them, but it is still frustrating.

Thank you for taking the time to read my rant and for sharing with us : )

Lee Ann

I am starting to get the same Lee and yes it is so annoying
If I wanted to subscribe I would. I too have a WA folder in my email set up and this is so good as now I have unsubscribed to all the spam emails, it should go more smoothly
All the best with your unsubscribing :)
Vicki

Thank you for sharing your experience with me Vicki.

I am going to be working on this off and on. I can't wait til I have them all gome : )

I hope it stays running smooth for you now.
