They Were All Crazy Too
What do you think when you hear the words;
- Apple
- Ford
- Amazon
- FedEx
- McDonald's
- Walmart
- SpaceX
- Microsoft
Obviously, these are all company names - very well known and successful companies too.
But before they were, they were just an idea in the mind of some crazy person. If you bother to research them and look behind the curtain, and way back deep into their own history you will find some fascinating stories of their origin!
Build It In Your Mind First
The point is that a great business of any kind - large or small - first begins inside somebody's head - just an inkling of an idea. Then it grows and develops over time as they think more and more about their business and as they take action.
Human nature is human nature. Even the most positive-minded among us are all skeptics at least to a point - and we have a strong tendency to not believe a thing is possible unless we see it already done before, and have strong evidence that it can be replicated.
That causes people to doubt their own beliefs and their own chances for success in building their own business of any kind.
Clarify your vision, turn it into goals, and start taking action - and who knows what you might accomplish!
As you begin to make some progress over time, usually slowly, your own confidence grows.
Then as more time goes by, and you achieve more and more success and accomplish more - then other people will begin to see what you have built and you all of a sudden begin to be seen as less crazy.
You go from crazy to becoming an authority - as other people begin seeking your advice and information.
Believe In Yourself - Then Get to Work!
Who knows what you might build for yourself and your family - and other people too.
It doesn't have to be a mega-corporation - but it might someday be - or it may just be a very small micro-business of your own vision that is still life-changing for you.
So just remember that when you have doubts about your own goals and dreams - and when other people you care most about doubt you.
Keep it in mind when peers and strangers alike also doubt you.
You are not alone. Every company on the list above and countless others, and their founders were doubted too. Some were even considered crazy...
Just something else to think about that may help you at least a little as you work to build your own vision of a business into reality too.

Hi L.D, I watched documentries on Ford, McDonalds and KFC. I think the timing was right, they gave the people what they wanted and always included up-sells. "Would you like fries with that burger"
They were all believers and I am sure that paved their path to success.

Hi Michael, and I think you are right about that - and by the way, I like watching those documentaries too. I also have read a number of books on them all, and others for the same reasons - to see what lessons can be learned and applied.

Great article, L.D. Sewell. It all starts with an idea, and maybe for others it's a crazy idea. But as you said, not to doubt, but carry on with the idea - first through a total reformation of how we think, and then with our action.

So many big businesses had interesting beginnings AND failures to begin with. They also developed out of nothing. I guess when you have nothing to lose, you feel like you can take bigger risks.
We're lucky being in WA. We have a roadmap and all we have to do is follow. We don't even have to start from scratch or even reinvent the wheel!!!!
