Long Difficult Journeys Lead to the Sweetest Rewards

Your journey may be longer than you expect it to be.

It is not always going to be easy.

For most people, most of the time it is going to be hard as hell... and it will take longer than expected especially when they are learning a new business/skill. This is also why most people will never taste that sweet victory that awaits so far ahead on that difficult road of reality.

It is not that they couldn't do it - or that they can't do it - but rather because they quit trying far too soon.

Why Do So Many Quit?

I believe it is in large part due to having misaligned expectations that are simply not reality.

In part that is due to all the guru garbage nonsense out there, that tells people over and over again that they can be rich almost instantly and easily without having to learn anything that matters, without having to invest hundreds or even thousands of dollars to get a business off the ground - and without any specialized information, knowledge, skills or talents.

While it is true that some of these things can be skipped or at least shortened at times - not all of them can, and most times for most people it is going to take far more effort, time, and money before their efforts begin to truly payoff.

Take trucking for example.

I have trained thousands of people over decades now to become professional truck drivers. Several hundred of those I personally trained from having never touched a truck before all the way through to getting their CDL and then through orientation and into road training with a trainer that I personally selected and trained too.

In time some of those rookie entry-level drivers went on to become trainers themselves and others became licensed truck driver instructors. Some of the students who graduated from our training programs eventually purchased their own trucks (after a few years of experience) and a very select few of those even went on to build their own successful trucking fleets.

What did they ALL have in common! They NEVER QUIT!

That was one thing.

They also all worked their asses off for long periods of time.

Many others never saw any of those rewards because they all quit within days, weeks, or months.

This is not unique to trucking either. It exists in all worthwhile industries and I have personally seen it time and time again.

So no matter what YOU CHOOSE to do, if you want the top rewards it can offer you then you must be willing to do the work and the time that it takes to get what you want. It will not be easy at times - and most of the time it will be very hard for you more likely than not.

In those moments where you are thinking to yourself that it is too hard and you are thinking of quitting... remember what I am sharing with you here and now, and then get back to work.

Do not quit... not ever. If the thing you are after is truly important to you and you really want it, then get back up and get back after it as many times as it takes to achieve success.

Do The Work and Do The Time

Take digital marketing, affiliate marketing, and all other online businesses for that matter.

Take classes.

Then go put the information from each class to work and do the work.

Practice. Get better. Learn and apply. Rinse and repeat.

When you keep doing that you will eventually begin to get some results, and over time they will begin to compound.

Choose Your Own Course, Build a Better Life

How long will it take you?

Who knows. Your journey is your own journey.

Your goals and your plans are also your own.

It takes different people different amounts of time for all kinds of reasons. Having said that there are comparative market analysis principles that can help you have some idea.

Gather specialized information, find out about resources. Learn what is available. Find it then use it - but remember - your own success is not written in stone either. Your results may still be faster or slower than others.

The important thing is that you are taking action, making progress, and continuously moving forward towards your goals.

As long as you keep doing better and you keep making progress then you will get to where you want to be, and you will be living a better life all along the way too.

Have a great day, and make it count!

Very true. The surest way to failure is “giving up” early in the journey.

It is true even in learning other skills —playing instrument for instance.

I remember when I was learning how to play guitar, I was so excited in learning all the chords. But when I started to do it with strumming, I was tempted to simply quit. It’s hard! The sound was terrible!

What I did? I focused in one song — my favorite song. It helped me not to give up because I am deeply motivated to learn that particular song.

The lesson—focus! Do it one step at a time. And enjoy the little success(es) along the way😊

I think about how difficult it must be to be a truck driver. I think there are those who must really enjoy driving them.
Like any other profession, for me, there is another very important characteristic, apart from liking. I call them "natural born skills" that one already has. You are born with that ability that later will make you a professional driver.
Many thanks Ld!

Hi LDS
Thanks for this interesting post.

I think most people training in most industries, have a relationship with a teacher/trainer, either that they are paying for or that their employer is paying for. They tend to feel they have a commitment to another person which helps to keep them going.

Having said that, I think that in any industry, most people who quit do so largely because they don't have a well-developed reason for not quitting. If they've set goals, they missed out on recognising their reasons for setting their goals.

When things get tough, reviewing our reasons 'why' can be the biggest motivator.

I agree Richard, having and knowing what your "Why" is and then wanting it bad enough to keep grinding it out until you get it are extremely important factors.

Nicely put LD, and great to hear from you again.

We all have our own destiny's in our own hands.

Those willing to put in the hours and hard work will succeed in the end.

Those who don't will not achieve a lot, it is all down to us as individuals to decide how far we want to go!

Great post my friend and I hope that everything is well with you.

Thanks and I hope you are doing well also.

Always welcome my friend and everything is going great here thanks!

Good sound focused advice. I thought I would progress faster but I realise learning this new skill and knowledge is more time consuming than I thought. You are correct when you say gurus give you unrealistic expectations, the problem with that is, they seem so knowledgeable and sincere. You are drawn into the hype. Not to mention the financial loss. Your point about, not everyone having 8 hours a day free to devote, so speeds of learning will be dependant on that also. It helps to have an article that helps you put your feet firmly on the floor and learn at the speed you can. This article is a reminder to work hard and progress without loosing heart. It can be soul destroying to not progress as fast as you want to. But the fact you have people writing sensible straight forward encouragement helps immensely. The morale of the article is, don’t give up! Please remind me of that periodically.

It is frustrating to see people quit when they show so much promise - and when they just had a little further to go to begin to see major payoffs.

While having positive expectations is good - having realistic expectations is also good too, because those who do are more likely to be the ones who stick with it long enough to reach success.

Thanks for your words - and I will try to remind you periodically too per your request ; )
