Guard Your Mind and Your Time

There are so many things that will distract you and lead you astray and off of your true course, if you let them.

So don't.

Focus first on your own mindset because all else flows from that. It will make you - or it will break you.

Work each day to develop, to maintain and to improve your own mindset before you do any other task for the day. Use morning routines, systems and other resources to help you do better as you work toward your own version of success.

Post a Guard

The primary purpose of this guard is to protect your most valuable and non-renewable resource - your time.

How you manage your time is absolutely critical too.

To do better and accomplish more every day on a consistent basis you must minimize distractions and waste - and your guard will help you do that.

What does that mean in practical terms?

It simply means that you need to have predetermined priorities set as to what is and what is not important to you - and then sort everything else accordingly.

For example - many years ago when I first became a safety director for a midsize motor carrier (trucking company) they had no such controls in place at all.

Random sales people would wander in and be allowed to go from office to office and person to person and eat up very valuable company time - most often attempting to sell stuff the company did not need, did not want and was never going to buy to begin with.

One of the very first things I did was put a stop to that - and had the front desk turn anyone without a prior scheduled appointment away. This immediately improved productivity - and relived some tension and stress from the staff who were then free to focus on their work.

You Must Choose What You Focus On

Choose what you want to focus on - or someone else will do it for you, and it will not be to your advantage either.

Respect yourself. Respect your time. Respect your own business.

Select and start using a daily planner and a journal.

It will help you focus on what needs to be done systematically and it will help you track, manage and control your progress too.

Old school pencil/paper works best according to countless studies - and my own experience. However digital versions are still useful too - so you decide and pick what works best for you.

In my opinion the best planner for you is simply whatever planner you will actually use consistently on a daily basis.

Wealthy Affiliate and Building Your Own Business

One of the biggest challenges you will face here inside WA and outside in the real world revolves around what to do next.

Even though the training is laid out in a sequential manner - there are so many things here - and out there in the world, it is so easy to get drawn in to all kinds of things that will prevent you from making meaningful, measurable and consistent progress - if you allow it.

Use a planner and manage your time to prevent that and to help you do better faster.

For example reading blog posts and responding to comments and making your own is beneficial - to a point. But if you let it pull you in and you spend countless hours doing so - and no time actually creating any content or doing anything else that can help you make more money (a core element of business) are you effectively using your precious time?

A better way might be to schedule yourself a block of time (set an alarm on your phone if you must) to do such activities - then move on at the end of that time slot and ignore it until the next scheduled time of your own choosing.

Now, if you are happy with your results and it works for you as is - then great! Keep on keeping on...

But if you are struggling and keep getting distracted - then post a guard - manage you attention and your time and you will do better.

Your life. Your choice. You decide.

Have a great day today, and make it count!

Until nest time be safe, and always remember;

Choose Your Own Course, Build a Better Life

I'm glad you mentioned the alarm on the phone, L.D. - I actually started using that a while back to help me manage my tasks and maintain my focus completely on that task alone.

But the next thing I know, I'm getting notifications and emails. I may have to take things one step further and use an old fashioned alarm clock or stopwatch to maintain focus.

Thanks for the post!
Isaiah 😊

An alarm helps me at times as it is easy to get "in the zone" so to speak - and what seems like a few minutes is actually a few hours!

As far as notifications - I fixed that by turning them all OFF.

Instead, I just schedule the times that I choose to go into each of my accounts (including WA) and respond and deal with things at a time of my own choosing instead of the constant (and usually unimportant) interruptions from endless notifications.

Just something to think about, and consider...

Have a great day my friend and make it count!

I loved this: But if you are struggling and keep getting distracted - then post a guard - manage you attention and your time and you will do better - a bit of me there this and last week, now I understand a more refined process, post a guard, thanks for the share LD.

Thanks!

So very true!

So very true.

I use a planner for my everyday purposes for work, but have just started using this for my goal achievements for my website too.

For me, this is the best way to stay focused and getting things done.

Thank you for this post.

Have a great day.

Cathy

Cathy, that is similar to my own story. I have always used a planner and other resources for my work - and have always been highly efficient at all key tasks for any job I have ever held.

However, for some inexplicable reason, it didn't dawn on me to use those same systems, methods, and tactics in my personal life too.

Once I finally figured that out - life got a lot better and a lot less stressful too ; )

Have a great day and make it count!

Best regards,

L.D. Sewell

So true.
It’s a great way of keeping everything in a system ☺️

I wish you a lovely day.

Take care

Cathy

It is so unbelievable how much comments I make on a daily basis on the WA platform. Am I wasting time? Of course not!
I use my time wisely to be active on the forum when I'm commuting, relaxing by watching my favourite shows and their on a ad break or as you've suggested placing a capped time on my activity. This has really helped me to balance the time spent and still focus on building my website

That's the key - to spend the amount of time at it that YOU choose when you choose - and by design with intention vs just letting it take over and consume your whole day.

Thanks for your comments and your time ; )

Best regards,

L.D. Sewell
