Does wp security plugin need to be activated?
I am having a lot of spam on my website. Do I need to activate WP security plugin? Add a different security plugin?
Hey Linda,
Not sure why you feel that you need any security plugin when hosting here on WA severs. They have the servers secured so that we do not need any security plugins whatsoever. See screen print below...
Here's their link where this is all explained: https://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/hosting/
Hope you find this helpful.
Then security is not what you need. Where is the spam coming from?
If you receive spam from abusive use of your contact form, here's what I did to solve that issue: Get Rid of Spam from Website

I finally found the old photos (some over thirty years ago) that I want to add to my web site. Any suggestions for getting them digital?
I use a scanner and then use the MS Paint program that all Windows-based PCs have to compress the memory size so it doesn't slow down my website.
Your local photography shop might offer that service. I had mine done at my local shop. The photos needed repair and enhancement and they did a wonderful job. I'm not using them online but I emailed the photos to my family overseas. ~Jude
I have done that for my personal use, just wasn't sure the quality would be good enough for the site.
Thank you I will try it
This source gives very good how to direction. http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/columnist/komando/2014/12/12/easy-ways-to-digitize-your-old-photos/20072417/
Thank you Mike. Just uploaded the Heirloom app. Will see how it goes!
Have a great evening
Linda
I just take pictures of pictures with digital camera or my phone! I take them as close up as I can without distorting and I make sure I do not get anything in the background! They usually turn out pretty good! Then I can post them!

Today I thought I should log into my original rubix site to see if it needed any security update. First it wouldn't automatically let me log in, I had to copy and paste passwor
WHen you are finished with the siterubix.com site if it has the same name as your .com site i would NOT delete it, you would be better off either keeping it as a backup or back up the content and get the site pointed to your .com site,. that way no one else will be able to use it and it will protect the name ....no confusion on the WWW if you get what i mean ? :-)) TANIA
The old siterubix site no longer exists after using the "Move" function. (If you want to back the old site up, you need to do that before performing the move.)
Any accesses of the old site's URL get redirected to the new site. The only reason to keep it is to pick up any traffic and get that traffic redirected to the new site. Loes has a good idea to keep the old site for a few months and then delete it.
When you have transfered your siterubix to your dot.com everything will be there too
Keep the siterubix in your manager for all redirects at least 2 months (I do it save and delete the old site after 6 months)
And open a new site to test your stuff
This is normal -- When you use the siterubix "Move" function to transfer your siterubix site to your .com domain, a redirect code (301 - permanent redirect) is inserted into the old site. Any accesses of that URL (even yours) get redirected to your new site.
Once that redirect is in place, any changes that you attempt to make to the siterubix site will be applied to your .com site. To create a test site for trying things out, you'll need to create a new siterubix subdomain under a different name.
[added]
What is the domain name for your siterubix site? I'll check the headers to ensure that the 301 redirect is causing what you're seeing.
The site rubix is Liveswithdogs while the .com site is livewithdogs. Thank you for explaining this. So the test site I create I would not want to publish anything, just use it as a test?
Here are the headers from your old LivesWithDogs.siterubix.com domain:
-------------------------------------------------
HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently
Date: Fri, 29 Jul 2016 17:40:29 GMT
Server: Apache/2.2.22 (Debian) mod_qos/10.8
Location: http://livewithdogs.com/
Cache-Control: max-age=0
Expires: Fri, 29 Jul 2016 17:40:29 GMT
Vary: Accept-Encoding
Connection: close
Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1
---------------------------------------------
The first line is the redirect code itself. The "Location:" field is your .com site where the access is being redirected.
For your test site, there are some settings in the All in One SEO plugin to keep google from indexing your test site. Sorry, I don't recall what they are at the moment. You'll be very limited in the testing you can perform if you don't publish any pages.
Thank you. From all your advice. I am not going to use this site for testing, but will set up a test site instead. I think more lessons are in order. Thank you very much for taking time for this. Have a very good weekend.

Does the rubix site of same name link to .com site?

Does anyone else have this problem. My computer and IPad are free from malware. My email company has a spam catching program that lets me look and see if it is spam or a legit
Thanks for highlighting this Linda. Its something I have had for yonks and didn't know anything about the reasons - I just ussed to delete the messages from "myself".
Thanks also to Bob for the reference to the solution.
Terry
It has been bothering me for awhile. I'm glad it isn't such a big deal (though it could be if we aren't careful) and now have steps to be even more careful. Regards linda
I'm not sure how it is done, but Bob is probably right, I do know that if you think you may have been hacked, shut down your computer, reboot, and when you go into your email, change your password. Tends to end the problem,
That's known as address spoofing and is very easy to do. Here's some further information (a long but informative article):
"Most of us know spam when we see it, but seeing a strange email from a friend—or worse, from ourselves—in our inbox is pretty disconcerting. If you've seen an email that looks like it's from a friend, it doesn't mean they've been hacked. Spammers spoof those addresses all the time, and it's not hard to do."

I have had this same problem, but long before I joined WA. It started shortly after I bought my mac. I have had every device checked for malware and they are not infected.
After a bit of research, I came to the conclusion that someone was just using my email to send spam.
I still have not found a solution.
Let me know if you find one.
Best,
JV
In all likelihood, they're not really using your email account to do the sending. By substituting your email address through spoofing for the "Sender" address, they only make it look like they have.

I added a banner picture on my website, but it is below the title and pages. My thought it would be on the top with the pages and website name below the picture.Can anyone poin
You can also create a banner in canva (free) and load it up...this is more fun and you have more control...
Login into your WordPress account, go to the top and you will see the word dashboard, waver over it and click view website. Click costomize to the top and will see some information to the side click anything with word header and you shall change the header settings.
Banner Affect Header plugin should meet your need. Described here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/banner-effect-header/
Thank you for answering my question and for the link. Wish I was a real techie it would be so much easier...but maybe not as much fun. Looks like more studying..LOL
If you are trying to add a header image under your logo. I have used the Custom CSS plugin and added the following code. I'm not sure if this will work with your theme but worked on mine.
.io-title-description
{
min-height: 70px;
margin: 0px 0px !important;
width: 100%;
background-image: url("ImageNameURL");
background-repeat: none;
}
If you have any further questions, send me a private message.
Thanks Dan
