OK, Just to clarify... You purchased a domain name on WA but you have a website hosted elsewhere and you want to point that domain name to the website address?
If so, you can put in a redirect bu going to Websites > Site Domains and clicking on the Setting button for the domain. Select Redirect from the drop-down menu and enter the URL that you want to redirect it to.
Here's the thing... Once someone goes to your domain name and the forward happens, the address bar will show the old URL because all it did was tell it to go here instead. If you're OK with that, great. If not, consider either moving your site to WA or changing the new domain's name servers to your other host and setting up the site using the new domain.
I have a business site that I want to change the name and redirect with the new WA domain name. The name on the site is just too long, I wanted a new catchy name to direct people to. So would this be the best and easiest option in your opinion?
Hi there, I appreciate your help, Support helped me get it set up, very confusing for me. What a great community at WA, all of you are so helpful and I appreciate it!
Where is your Website currently hosted?
If it isn't on the WA servers, do you want it to be?
If you do, is it running WordPress?
If it isn't and you don't, does your current host use cPanel?
Hi Chrystopher, I have a business site that I want to change the name and redirect with the new WA domain name. The name on the site is just too long, I wanted a new catchy name to direct people to. Wasn't sure how to go about doing that? And what way would be the easiest?
No worries, if you can answer the questions above, I can help guide you along the path you want to go down. If you don't want to use the old (long) domain name anymore, we can change the domain name to the new (shorter) one. The old domain name can then be set to be Redirected to the new shorter one.
Thanks Chrystopher, I put in a support ticket and they helped me get it set up, I was lost lol Again, I appreciate your help!

Hey Laurielynn,
I'm no expert on the subject, but I believe you'll need to transfer your old domain to WA first.
Once it's been transferred, there's a button in the site manager called "move". That's basically how you'll be redirecting your old domain to a new one.
If you want specific and accurate information though, contact Site Support. It's part of your premium membership and you should take full advantage of it!
I hope that helps.

Hi Stefan, thanks for your help, I appreciate it. That sounds like an easy way to do it. This tech part is not my strong point lol
Thanks for the advice, I put in a support ticket and they helped me get it set up, they were awesome and got back to me right away! I appreciate your help!
No problem, I'm glad it worked out. Site Support is the best, they usually answer so quickly! One of the many advantages of WA.
Take care!
