And then yesterday I received a nice surprise message from Paypal.
I just took a screenshot of it for you.
Now the interesting thing was that I didn't have time to work yesterday. I had family obligations so I wasn't home working on my blog at all.
This income was from an Affiliate Program I joined last year some time. I wrote one post about it on 6th July 2016 and added a small widget in the sidebar and then forgot about it.
Well, let's be honest, I didn't forget about it straight away. I had just started out online and I was hopeful I'd make money fast. I wrote the post, I shared it on social media and checked in every couple of days and then every week or so for a while to see if I'd earned any affiliate commission... and as no commission was coming in, after a few months I forgot about it.
I got on with building my website, focusing on adding rich content, I found my way back to the training and started learning how to write reviews, I gave comments and asked for comments and built my social media profiles.
And somewhere along the way, I must have started honing in on my target audience because I started bringing in affiliate sales.
Can you call this passive income?
I don't know. I'd say in a way - yes, in a way - no.
It is Passive Income in that I wrote the post a long time ago and forgot about it. Who knows how many sales this post will generate for me once my site really gains traction in the form of massive traffic?
It is Passive Income because this was certainly unexpected and one could say, instant cash. There it was in my Paypal account. Without me even being aware that the sale was made.
It is Passive Income because I was not working when this money popped into my Paypal account.
However, it's not truly Passive Income because I'm not truly Passive, am I?
I'm active on my blogs, on social media and here at Wealthy Affiliate every single day.
I'm actively learning, I'm actively growing, I'm actively taking steps towards to my future online success.
My wish for you is this:

Just remember... it ain't gonna happen if you don't do the initial work.

Way to go Lauren...congrats on your sales! What you've said here is so very true. It takes awhile to get it going, but with time and effort, writing quality content. getting involved in social media, and just keeping at it, does eventually pay off.
It certainly is a mix of both active and passive as you said...the more active you are the better. Definitely a good feeling to see that money roll in for something you promoted on blogs you might have written a long time ago. Goes to show what quality content can do!
