GDPR Compliance... what a headache!!

Anything legal-speak strikes fear into me so I was shying away from all things related to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Especially when there's the threat lurking of heavy fines for non-compliance.

Yesterday, with the 25th May deadline now just days away, I realised it was time to start getting this sorted.

I finally took the bull by the horns and drew up a quick checklist for myself on becoming GDPR Compliant.

GDPR Compliance Checklist

  1. Google Analytics
  2. Update All Sites to Wordpress 4.9.6.
  3. Privacy Policy on Websites
  4. Newsletter to my Email Subscribers

And then it was just a matter of clicking on the Search bar at the top of Wealthy Affiliate Platform.

BIG THANKS to Loes, Marion and Mary for their posts and tutorials.

One of the many reasons I absolutely love being a member of Wealthy Affiliate is that we have direct access to some of the most incredible brains in the Online Marketing Industry.

GDPR Compliance Headache... Removed!

1. Google Analytics

Within a couple of hours - Thanks to the awesome Training by Mary @MozMary, I had my Google Analytics sorted. THANK YOU MARY!!

Google Analytics GDPR Acceptance Walk Through

It would have been a lot faster, if I had already granted the correct email addresses administration permission for each website.

Once I found the email address that was Administrating my Google Analytics accounts for each of my websites, it was a cinch.

2. Update All Sites to Wordpress 4.9.6.

After reading a number of blogs on the subject, I realised that it was imperative to update to Wordpress 4.9.6. as Wordpress is helping us become GDPR compliant.

When you go back into your site after doing the update, you'll get this message from WP and Wordpress even offers Guidelines on how to create your Privay Policy page.

3. Privacy Policy on Websites

I had a look at the WP guidelines on setting out my new GDPR Compliant Privacy Policy and promptly decided I had no idea how to fill in the gaps.

So I trusted that Kyle and Carson would soon publish an email to help us out with this and decided to wait until they did.

Kyle Saves the Day

True to form, they did. (You can find the Template in Site Content). Hip hip Hooray!!

And of course, Kyle's post was BRILLIANT!! Took ALL THE STRESS out of this GDPR Compliance lark. If you missed it, click the link below:

GDPR Compliance - Our Official Take

I've updated the Privacy Policy on one site and can now easily do the same for the rest of my sites. HOORAY!

MarionBlack just added a Video Training on this. THANK YOU Marion!

Click the link below:

GDPR Privacy Policy Video Training

And Kyle added another step to my GDPR Compliance Process that I hadn't factored in when I created my Checklist yesterday...

3. (b). WP GDPR Compliance Plugin

I also added the Plugin Kyle recommended in his post and did the necessary tweaks.

Hopefully I did them correctly but no doubt a clever member will load a training soon.

Update: Aha!! Loes did the honours. THANK YOU LOES!! Here you go:

WP GDPR Compliance Plugin Settings

4. Newsletter to my Email Subscribers

So all that's left for me to do is send an email out to my subscribers notifying them of these changes and giving them another chance to opt-in or out of my newsletter.

How are you doing on Your GDPR Compliance?

And have I left anything out?

Please let me know if any obvious is missing from my Checklist and I'll update it chop-chop.

To Your Success

P.S. After making these changes, if you're not seeing the little checkbox below your Comments section on your website stating: "By using this form you agree with the storage and handling of your data by this website" (as pictured below), please see Patsy's comment below this post giving possible solutions.

Love your blogs Lauren

Thanks Edwin.

Getting started right now! I know the stress you have felt as I have to travel 4 hours a day for business. Hence, very little time to do much of anything!

Ooh goodness, Suzi, 4 hours travel a day for business... hectic. Good luck there.

It has been exhausting, to say the least. That's why my website is not as good as it needs to be. Thanks for your well wishes:). I appreciated that:)

All on my todo list for today. Thanks so much for your help.
All the best,
Wendi

I spent last weekend doing all this. It took hours! Thanks to Moz Mary, Marion Black and Loes...

Aw, Dianne. It's time consuming work, isn't it? But it has to be done.

I'm a "wait till the last second"person also. Your checklist is what I will be doing this afternoon!!!

Thanks so much for sharing this ckecklist Lauren, it will help me to check everything I need to work on today, :)

Pleasure Alejandra. Good luck with your GDPR compliance.

Add a cookie warning plugin, and/or the plugin Kyle is recommending on the GDPR post?

Thanks Loes! Added the Plugin to my website but not to this post. Will edit ASAP

Super:)!

Loes, should we have both a cookie warning plugin "EU cookie law" and the “WP GDPR Compliance” with the check box beneath the comment box?

Still a bit uncertain!
:-o

I don't know, I have to dive into this,I have daycare children,no time now

Thanks again Loes, this post now updated to include Plugin. I haven't added the Cookie Plugin as I noticed Kyle included cookies in the Privacy Policy.

I don't know yet what the plugin does which Kyle suggested, but you do need a pop-up warning

Oh. Hmmm. I do my best to avoid pop-ups on my site as they irritate me.

You can check if on my workathomefuture website, quite modest
