Career Advisor on LinkedIn - Invitation Accepted
So... I received an invitation from LinkedIn yesterday to become a
Career Advisor on LinkedIn
Unfortunately missed the opportunity of taking a screenshot for you but the invite read something like this:
"You've been recognized as an expert in your field and we'd like to offer you the opportunity to become a Career Advisor."
Cool huh?
Well, actually, it's popped up a few times in the last couple of months. And although I've been flattered, I've been hesitant to accept the invitation.
Simply because I'm concerned it may take up too much of my time.
Yesterday I decided to give it a shot since I'm currently testing out how well LinkedIn works to expand my reach and grow my online business.
What is a LinkedIn Career Advisor?
So I did a bit of research online yesterday and basically it appears that LinkedIn has created an in-house Mentorship system, where they match:
- Advisors (members willing to give career advice) with
- Advisees (members looking for career advice).
I just had to add a few things I could advise on (Content Marketing, Keyword Research, SEO etc.) and accept their terms.
Once I had done this I received a notification saying they are matching me up with people who need my advice and will get back to me on Monday.
Again, will keep you posted on my progress.

No but that is good news I think. I have said I would be an adviser but have not received an invitation.
Congrats Lauren. To be totally honest, I would accept this invitation as it would provide some open doors to speak to some who may not want career advise but a total 360 escape from their 9-5. Delicate balance, but given the amount of traffic LinkedIn gets it may be worth the time distraction.

May be it's good to reach LinkedIn and find out more in terms of benefits (monetary and non-monetary) and see from there.
I never receive any correspondence from LinkedIn except the one says your account has been terminated.. :)
If you happen to join them, may becan recommend for the ban to be released. :)

Awesome Lauren, that will connect very well with your online aspirations and give the opportunity to expand your wider online presence.
I guess it would be a balancing act, how much time is to much time, it is easy to lose track and end up expending a lot of energy that can be relatively unproductive long term.
It will be a confidence booster indeed, best wishes as you explore, keep us up to date.
Thanks, Alex... it's like you just read my mind, those are all the thoughts I had when mulling over this decision. In the end, I decided it could be a great opportunity and the only way to know for sure, would be to give it a try.
For sure, it can be all about, spreading our wings, there is a real thirst out there for all things online, at the moment as folks search for alternatives to the norm, that dreaded 9 to 5, when you think about we are in a prime position here at WA to spread the word.
