Hello Everybody!

Over the years I have taught art on and off to K-12 and college students. Back when I was doing art I did big abstract paintings and exhibited nationally. I had a few art galleries too. But I learned early that it's hard to make good money this way. I still like to paint (when I have time) and hope to construct a large studio to put somewhere in our backyard.

I've also done a lot of writing in the business world in different office management and technical writer roles. Mostly boring and meticulous work BUT I began my 25 years interest in computers. I learned lots of different programs and began taking an interest in using the internet to start a business. I had some graphic arts experience and created several websites just for archiving photography of my artwork and occasionally sold one here and there.

It was interesting but building websites back in the mid-90's was not user-friendly enough yet (for me anyway!) so I would have to keep up the daily grind for a while longer. But it has all been a good learning process that has now brought me to Wealthy Affiliate where I can succeed with the enormous help from members, training and tools here!

My blog is about dog care. Why dog care? Well, for the last few years my husband, Doug, and I have run an online dog boarding business through Rover.com. We both have been lifelong dog owners and dog-enthusiasts so we really enjoy the doggy guests who come to our home! Doug is a computer geek (much more than me, even) who had his own brick-and-mortar computer store business many years ago. He's here at WA too! Anyway, we both have dogs, writing and computers in common and we really appreciate the freedom and control we have from running our businesses from our smartphones.

After almost four years things are going great and what we expected to be some extra income has turned into a thriving business. We actually are utilizing the internet for our income while doing what we love from home! And WA looks to have almost limitless potential since affiliate marketing has a worldwide reach!

I'm ready to succeed and make lots of new friends here!
This is going to be a wonderful journey!
First...go write a great post that will help people... :)

Hope to talk to you soon,
All the best,
LaurenCook

Hi, Lauren. Thanks for following me. In 2014, I lost my wonderful certified therapy dog, Raven to cancer. I was still grieving and not ready to rescue another dog yet, so I did petsitting for a year or so. I was also on Rover.com. Small world, isn't it? I had one client's 2 dogs and 2 cats for 3 months while they were remodeling their home.

I'm not doing any petsitting now because I rescued a "pointador" (1/2 pointer, 1/2 black lab) last spring. She is very timid and has not been socialized. Unfortunately, she won't work for pet therapy, but she is sweet, and I made a commitment to her. She gets very anxious when I just put something in a different place in her new home, and I don't want to increase her anxiety level by exposing her to other dogs coming and going at this time.

Leia is slowly improving as I work on her socialization, and is very bonded to me. She does enjoy playing with my neighbor's red tick coon hound, who is about the same size, but that's in her fenced yard, and she is in control of the situation.

Sorry I got off on a doggie tangent there. Followed you back.

LOL - I love to meet a fellow dog lover and a Rover sitter at that! So sad about Raven. Leia sounds normal enough considering she probably has some 'baggage' like most rescues. I bet she could handle one dog at a time. Maybe one weekend out of every month and gradually increase. It's healthy for dogs to be around other dogs occasionally - maybe just a short visit to a dog park.

Yes, she enjoys playing with Lisa, the hound I mentioned earlier. I don't like the idea of the dog park because so many people here have pitbulls. I have friends who have had to take their dog and leave because the pits weren't being supervised and were getting aggressive toward their dogs.

Yes, I'm sure Leia has baggage. She is such a soft personality and so frightened of anything new. But she has made great strides compared to when I got her.

Leia and I have been through 3 classes at PetSmart, primarily for socialization. She was initially afraid of the guys in the class, especially if they had on hats, but now she will go up to them and sniff their legs (when they're sitting down). She'll also go up to the instructor and let her pet her now. She is making progress, but I need to give her lots of love and attention right now, and don't feel up to having any extra animals at the moment. Maybe in the spring I'll consider reactivating Rover.

Leia is really enjoys the other dogs in her class, especially a 10 month old male German Shepherd puppy. They are great friends.
We are on break from class until spring now.

Good afternoon Lauren,

Nice profile you have put here. In WA you will find a lot of dog fans, like Giulia and Valerie plus me.
I always say this to the new people I meet here. In case you need a good source for writing have a look at one of my first posts about the Spanish priest and the world library, amazing things can be found there.
Thank you for the follow and all the best.

Thank you Lauren for the follow and many blessings to you here at WA. As a Premium Member you are probably aware of the AWESOME and FREE WA Keyword Tool we have unlimited access to.

This is the keyword research tool I have used exclusively after I became a Premium member 4 years ago and it has helped me many times to find awesome keywords that have led to Google page 1 rankings.

When you have the time, I created very popular WA Training Tutorials, Part 1 and Part 2, on how to use the WA Keyword Tool for keyword research. If you have not seen it and would like to learn how simple it is to use and a little about keywords, click the below link. Again, when you have the time.

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

You would probably think my niche was extremely broad (it's dogs) but I feel good about it so far. I probably will want to start another website with a more refined niche later and I have several ideas about that. Keep you posted!

Honestly Lauren, I think that your niche that you have chosen is far too broad. I recommend that you narrow this down slightly and to do this I would recommend trying out the Alphabet Soup Technique.

Here is a short training video on this: I use this not just for keywords, but also to narrow down my niches into something more specific. Remember also, there are TWO BILLION people on the Internet. Even some of the seemingly smallest niches out there have huge audiences that are searching for help with them and buying products within them.

Also, I recently blogged about what is too broad of a niche and how to define what is a suitable niche (with some real examples). I absolutely recommend that you check this out as it is going to definitely help you here Lauren. If you want to run any of your "narrowed down" niches by me, please do let me know and I will be more than happy to give you a hand Lauren. :)
