Hello everyone,

Financial struggles make me ask this question.
Which place would be the best to host my 3 websites outside WA? How would that function if?

Gree

Good evening, Taetske. I was sorry to read a few days ago about your financial struggles. I didn't respond to you at that time because I could see you were receiving mutiple replies. Also, I don't have any helpful information. Since joining WA in 2015 my websites have been hosted by WA. Prior to 2015 I used Hostgater which I considered to be of high quality. However, during 2015 Hostgator was taken over by a new company and I was not impressed at all with that new company. That was a lot of years ago, and I expect the problems Hostgator had at the time would have been well resolved.

I sincerely hope that you find a solution that will enable you to keep your websites. If I happen to learn about a suitable webhost company, I will be in touch with you, Taetske.

Take care :)

Valerie

Good afternoon, Dear Valerie,

Thank you for your kind words. Life has its ups and downs, but I had hope it would not happen at this age any more, I mean such a struggle.
If I had sold the house, then there would be no problem, but that is the typical if.
I will investigate, with Michael's help, the suggestions made here. Trish said I should also check on recent reviews by users and then make a choice.
I rather stay with WA, as I feel comfortable here knowing my way around, but it might be impossible and that is a shame.
I hope your move was without hiccups, and you feel good in the new place.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Good afternoon, Dear Taetske.

Thanks so much for your kind response.
I sincerely hope you are able to stay with WA, but life being what it is, only time will tell.
You mention an if. I too have a property related if!
I agree with Trish's advice to check on recent reviews.
The move to my new place went fine and I am well looked after, for which I am very grateful.

Sending best wishes to you, Taetske, and to Michael

Thank you, Valerie, we will keep smiling (today the washing machine broke down) Happy to hear your move went well!

Taetske

Oh dear, Taetske, you have certainly reached a sticky patch in your life! I do feel for you both! There has to be a turn around for you soon. Keep those smiles going in spite of all, and life can only get better.

Valerie

We sure will, Valerie, thank you.

Best Wishes,

Taetske

You're very welcome, Taetske.

Valerie

Good afternoon Valerie,

After checking here and there we scraped the money together, and I am staying.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

I have around 30 websites, Taetske with half hosted here at WA and half with SiteGround. I've found SiteGround excellent but to get good prices, you need to pay yearly and that may not be an option for you at the moment. Catherine's recommendation looks interesting. I use Namecheap for my domain name registration as I don't believe in having that on the same platform as my web hosting.

Thank you, Jeffrey, I find it starts getting a tic confusing for me with so many suggestions. Will have to investigate everything thoroughly.

Taetske

So sorry, Phil. Got your name mixed up as I had just written to Jeffrey. Anyhow, it shows how muddled up I am getting with so many suggestions from people after posting this question. I will do my best to sort this issue.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

No worries, Taetske. I've just created a $10 account with Mom Webs and am in the process of transferring one of my old neglected sites to it. Looks ok so far. There's a $5 option for just one site.

Thank you, Phil, for the info. I have 3 websites I want to save.

Taetske

The $10 account allows you to host multiple websites.

Thank you, Phil, I will have a look.

Taetske

When you do get a new web host, don't forget to point your domain names to the new name servers and that it can take 24 hours to propagate.

Good Morning Phil,

With point you mean tell the server the names of your websites?

Taetske

No, you have to go to your domain name registrar and enter the names of your web host's servers (which your web host will tell after you open an account with them).

This is how the internet knows to display your website when the URL is entered.

Well, it is obvious I have no clue about how many of these types of things work. That I have 3 websites is kind of a miracle. I am dreading this move, I can tell you.

Thank you for your help.

Taetske

Just let me know when you're ready to do it, along with who your domain name registrar and web host are and I'll guide you through it.

Thank you, Phil, that is a supper offer, really appreciate.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Glad I can help, Taetske. Keep me informed.

Good afternoon Phil,

After checking here and there, we scraped the money together, and I am staying. Thank you for your help.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Great news, Taetske. Good luck going forward.

Hey Taetske,

Sorry to learn of your struggles.

Many outside web hosting providers can cost you even more for the same sort of protection that is built into the WA servers for members only.

This makes it a lot less expensive to stick with WA, when you have more than one website.

The cheaper the hosting fees, the less you will find is included, such as domain registration and bandwidth. Sometimes even support.

So, please keep that in mind when making your decision. I'm sure you've searched to discover the cheapest web hosting providers in the USA, right?

Make sure you check reviews on at least 5 different web hosting providers and be sure to read all of the complaints logged lately, not 5 years ago.

Hope you find this helpful.

Good Morning Trish,

Things are not rosy, but I do not put that in my Update from Spain email. I keep that for one to one communications.
Thank you for the advice, I certainly will be careful as not to lose my small accomplishments along the way.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Good afternoon Trish,

Checking here and there, we scraped the money together, and I can stay 1 more year. Thank you for your help.

Hasta Pronto,

Taetske

Yeaaaaaaaah!

Trish is dancin' in her office now... yeaaaah!

Thank YOU Taetske for the BEST news of the WEEK!

I use Moms web because the support is top notch much faster and more efficient than WA . Scott is the co owner and support guy and he will import your websites for you. I have used Site ground and they are ok for the first year. Then for the second year, they really pile on the charges. Full disclosure Moms web is co owned by my friend and mentor Kelly McCausey but I have been with them for eight years. https://www.momwebs.com/

Just had a look. They look excellent for someone starting out in terms of cost and resources. I might throw a couple of websites at them and see how it works out. Thank you.

Thank you, Catherine, for your reply. I will investigate for sure.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Good afternoon Catherine,

Thank you for your help. After looking here and there, we scraped the money together, and I am staying.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

I am so happy for you. Times are difficult for everyone at the moment.

I use SiteGround, and they are perfect. :) The first year, they are okay, but in the following years, it gets pricey.

I had found Hostgator, came as first with 9.5 on 10 best hosts for 2023.
I will have a look at your suggestion.

Taetske

Look for the small print, precisely what you get for your buck; sometimes they're cheap, but they get their money from elsewhere, for example, extra SSL certificates, if you host more than one website.

Or if you choose one region (say Singapore), you decide your audience is from the US and want your servers to be in the US.

You're awesomely welcome :)

I just left Bluehost after 8 years and moved to Siteground :) Im so happy now 😊

Thank you for your advice, I am lost slightly but never mind, have to sort this out.

Taetske

Let me know how you get along and what you decide :)

I will, thank you, Abie.

Taetske

Good afternoon Abie,

After checking here and there, we scraped the money together, so I am staying 1 more year. Thank you for your help.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

De nada! Really happy for you.

I remember he passed away around 2 years ago.
Can you confirm this, please?
Why I ask? I was contacted by "him" on Facebook.

Thank you,

Taetske

I vaguely remember him, Testske, but I remember that either you or someone else wrote a testimonial for him a couple of years ago. Hope you are doing well!

Jeff

Thank you, Jeffrey, Marion did.
All is well here, got some rain finally, married on 28th December, and still waiting for the house to be sold.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

That sounds awesome, Taetske!

Jeff🙏

It's not uncommon for old abandoned accounts to be taken over by black hat online personalities. I skim from time to time the blackhatworld forums and they have a ton of sellers selling what they call aged accounts.

I have long suspected that employees at these tech giants may sell these accounts that go dormant, knowing that once caught it will be assumed there was a hacker or family member etc who took the account over. No real investigation will ever take place so the seller is likely safe from ever being punished.

I have to imagine in most cases of someone passing the family never goes through and closes the various accounts, and likely may not have passwords to do so.

I'm sorry you are finding yourself in such a bizarre situation.

Regards,

Jason

Thank you Jason.
I have forwarded my suspicion to FB already. "He" is recommending another FB profile where they ask for a lot of personal data. It probably is the same person anyway.
His FB profile is new, 5 Nov. 2022.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Appreciate your letting me know you found it interesting. :)

Hi - yes, Marion confirmed his death.

Thank you Diane, this helps a lot.
On FB, the new Tom Short is doing strange things and I will have to report it. I wanted to be absolutely sure before I do that.

Are there members who remember Tom Short?

I remember this member passing away about 2 years ago.
Why I ask? Because suddenly this member appears on Facebook.
W

I don't. I am really sorry.

I have no idea what happened to them. Maybe they subscribed again?

Good evening Abie,

If he passed away then the profile on Facebook is a scam.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Maybe a family member has the login details if good, or it got hacked if bad. You can never tell, but if they passed away, they could change this on their Facebook, someplace in settings, so that people would know.

Sometimes folks want to stay private, so you do not know.

But if you suspect something, don't respond. I would not necessarily flag it as spam. That would be me.

To be sure I ask the WA community if somebody remembers this.

That's great too :)

During my time here, I have seen a l

Lol! Sounds like someone is in love with you and your Kombucha tea post friend. Or maybe, there are some people who just don't give a hoot about what they write. I usually try to edit a little error now and then, giving people a chance to earn their credit, but this comment didn't even mentioned anything about your post. It doesn't deserve to be on there. Disapprove it with zero tolerance as you would like. All the best!

Good Morning John,

To tell you the truth, I did not understand the comment very well. Must be the language of the younger generation. All these abbreviations do not mean anything to me. Is that how people message nowadays on their mobile phone?
I have often edited myself or PM the people directly asking them to edit so I can approve. When I go to notifications, I could go to their profile but since the update that is not possible anymore.

Regards, Taetske

I agree. Those abbreviations and "slang" ways puzzle me sometimes as I would have to look them up. Lol! But at some point, you have to make the ultimate decision whether you want those low comments on your posts or not. All the best!

Good Morning John,

In this particular case, and as in my eyes it was complete gibberish, this comment was not acceptable. My websites are in "normal" English and the comments should be too.

All the best to you too, Taetske

Hi Taetske,
There have been a lot of comments like these recently I received 6 in a row that were religious gibberish so I rejected them and hope that he has been asked to discontinue his disrespectful and wasteful commenting.
We can only decline these comments and make a point.
I hope you get better in the future.

Good evening Lily,

The quality of comments has been in decline lately. Most times I have to disapprove, and often I report it too. SiteSupport will take care of these people. They are like mosquitos on our platform, a nuisance.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Hi Taetske, it is amazing what some people try to get away with. I too got a generic comment to one of my posts this morning. I disapproved of it and gave my reasons. I just hope I get my 2 credits back.
The comment you got is so out of whack I can not believe it. This person has no shame and has no problem with making a fool of themselves.
Sometimes you have to rise above the nonsense.

Best wishes,
Michael

Good evening Michael,

They will get away with it but not for much longer.
Soon we will see a new WA rule. You will have to fulfill a certain criteria to be able to comment.

Normally you will get a new comment replacing the one you have disapproved.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

I can understand why your tolerance level has dropped to zero. Is there any way to block this spammer from accessing your site. I believe there is a tool to block specific people from accessing your site in the future. I hope you can put a block to this individual.
Jerry

Good afternoon Jerry,

I got this comment through SiteComment. I disapproved and I also reported it to SiteSupport with a screenshot included. WA is aware there are some "strange" members who are here only to earn money.
Soon there will be a new rule in place where those types of comments will not be possible anymore.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Looks like you have a star struck fan there, Taetske.

Always good to have fans.

Some members unfortunately don't get the the process of creating and placing content comments.

This appears to create on going issues, which causes frustration, for members who are genuinely seeking relavent comments, as some members try and game the system.

It is good to highlite issues, and bring them into the open, so folks don't have to suffer in silence.

As this is an ongoing issue perhaps the algorithmic aspect of site comments needs to be tightened up. Even some form of moderation to keep a lid on comment deliquency.

On the bright side, you have to wonder what on earth were they thinking.

Just curious, Taetske, what is your batting average when it comes to comments, 10 out of 10 being good 2 out of 10 being good. In the latter the system is broke beyond repair.

With your comment reject it.

Good afternoon Alex,

It is nice to have fans, but not this type.

Since the money aspect was introduced a lot of "strange" people popped up. I even have seen gang like structures over time.

2 days ago I reported 4 comments to SiteSupport, screenshot included. Here is part of their answer:

We have plans to update the SiteComment platform and part of that update will be limitations on who can leave comments. Appreciate your detailed feedback

There you see one should report these things so they can clean up the platform.
Lately it has been 50/50. I hope with the new rule we will get mostly good and genuine comments again.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

That is good news, Taetske, I have to agree on the comment platform, some I have never seen or heard from in all my time here on the platform other than random comments.

It is good to be part of a dynamic and progressive platform like WA where integrity is key.

Look forward to the upgrade of site comments.

Alex

Good afternoon everybody.

When I receive a comment and do not know the person, I click on the small photo to look at the Gravatar. After that I go to Notification, click

Hey Taetske,

Have you reached out to the WA guru Carson regarding this issue yet?
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/message/carson

Because no member can resolve this, that is what I would do. Especially given that this may not be an intentional change but rather a hiccup that Carson would appreciate knowing of in a PM.

For this issue, you would need to click on Report Content so that you receive a blank textbox that will be clearly labeled with "Contact Kyle or Caron", and then Caron will receive your message in his inbox.

Hope you find this helpful.

Good afternoon Trish,

Nice to see you. Please read what I told Louise. This problem has not been solved. As the people who comment on your post are WA members, one should be able to view their profile.
When you go to Notification, you have access to all the profiles when clicking on the small photo, but not when it is a comment you receive through SiteComment.

Have you got snow already? In the North and middle of Spain and even the famous Sierra Nevada there is snow. We are sitting most days on the patio getting a small sunbath of 20 minutes.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Nice to see you too Taetske, snow has come and gone and now today... sadly, it's starting again.

Oooooh, how I look forward to April every winter. 🙂
Soooo, enjoy your sunbath for me, please? 😀

When it comes to hiccups on the WA membership site, I still take minor issues to Carson in a pm, rather than airing them on the public platform.

This way, you will know if it is a hiccup (and he'd be VERY thankful for your letting him know of it)... or... if it is a privacy issue... which is doubtful.

Maybe that's just me.

Good afternoon Trish,

I contacted SiteSupport on Nov. 16
12 messages back and forth, Carson included. The last one was 14 days ago, and the problem is still here.

All the best, Taetske

It shows how many messages you have, but it doesn't allow you to see the sender.

Good afternoon Judith,

I cannot check the profile of the person who leaves a comment on my post through SiteComment.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

I can only see it in my email.

Hi Taetske
I have noticed that too. It may be another glitch in the new system. Kyle put out a thread where we can let him know about glitches. Maybe we should pop it in there?
Blessings
Louise

Good afternoon Louise,

I did contact SiteSupport and even talked to Carson, but the problem was not solved.
Depending who gives the comment on your post, there sometimes is a need to find out who this person is.
One year ago there were too many issues with fraud Gravatars, fake profiles etc. In 1 month I had 40 messages between SiteSupport and myself. I wrote 3 posts about it. A new rule was put. The same person can only place 1 comment on a post. I would sometimes get 3 comments from apparently different people but it was the same person with different profiles, Gravatars, etc. A Mafia type of setup to earn money.
That experience taught me to check people I do not know.

Greetings from the south of Spain,

Taetske

Now, I see what you are talking about.

Hi, you can I just tried it. It works great. That's bell notifications at WA.

Good afternoon Abie,

In Notifications I cannot visit the profile of the person who leaves a comment. It takes me back to the Gravatar. When I click on people who leave comments on WA posts, everything is ok.

I did Abie. Please read what I said to Louise.
