I think you have some great advice here Lesley. Competition is good (people are making money), and you already have a "niche" within health.

I don't think you'll have any issues.

Thanks Nathaniell.

I will keep ploughing on with it then !

All the best, Lesley

Health niche is a very broad term. Have you tried to narrow it down to a section of health you can write about for the next year or so?

It should be profitable and solve a problem for your visitors. With products or services to market. If possible from low priced items all the way to $500 a pop.

You will be putting in time and effort so you might as well be paid top dollar for it.

Stella

Hi Stella, thanks for your reply. Yes, my niche is Panic attacks.

https://farewellpanic.com/

At the moment I'm writing informational content posts, but I'm aiming towards marketing panic attack treatment resources.

So my niche isn't massive and there is relevant search terms that meet the criteria suggested by WA.

I just got a bit freaked out by the youtube tutorial I watched.

I think it will be a bit tougher to rank. But I don't want to spend masses fo time writing content if it's not going to slowly climb!

it si competitive. but competitive usually means there is money to be made.

you will need to niche down pretty good and it may take a little longer to rank for stuff, but as long as you still using the low hanging fruit keywords in jaaxy and google and start churning out content to build authrity, you can really find cracks in any niche and make your mark.

and it will be worth it because of the high paying nature of the niche.

Thanks for your encouragement. I just read your profile and it's inspiring.

Hi, my blog is a couple of months old and none of my posts seem to be showing up in a google search. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

Here is some relevant in

You are indexed - so you aren't doing anything "wrong" technically. The main thing working against you right now is the lack of volume of content. Google has to read lots of articles on your site to figure out what you're writing about and if it's good content. The more you publish, the more attention you get from Google (especially in the beginning).

One thing you can do to help you is to name your images something descriptive, related to your keyword. For example, I see your top image file name is "bar resize". A better file name would be your keyword "alcohol and panic attacks", or "alcohol can cause panic attacks".

You can also make use of Alt Text: Hope this helps Lesley!

Aha, that's useful to know. I didn't think that the name of the image mattered. I was just filling in the title and alt text with keywords, but the images are name all sorts of rubbish. I can slowly start replacing them.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will just have to be patient with regards to ranking, as I'm publishing posts as quickly as I can.

You're doing great so far Lesley!

Yeah it's fine - I ran a search & found that your site is already indexed by Google. Keep up the good work & keep pumping out more content :)

Thanks Dale. I just read your profile. It's great to know that this has worked for you. :)

I just did a keyword check on Jaaxy for one of your blogs 'Alcohol and panic attacks' I can see that it has an excellent QSR and Great overall rating, however the actual amount of of traffic is very low. So I checked out other possible keyword phrases for your niche. They were all very low in relation to traffic.
I'd say it's going to take a good number of blogs for people to find you. Also, as you're fairly new you still need to build up site trust with Google. They tend to rank those sites they know and trust higher. Keep writing more blogs, your site looks fantastic. The only other thing I'd change is your writing style. Keep your paragraphs short. Down to one to two sentences. Have plenting of Bold headings, bullet points etc. This will not only keep any visitors on your site but also help with rankings.
Hope this helps. Jim

Thanks Jim.
I will take on board your comment about paragraph length. I'm used to writing academic text, so I have a few habits of a lifetime to change writing blogs. It goes against the grain a bit to write 1 or 2 sentence paragraphs, but I will trust what you say about ranking and break up the existing ones a bit more.

Regarding traffic. I realise that some of my search terms are quite low in traffic, but I remember one of the training vids saying not to worry too much about that. Because as the number of posts grow, the overall number of site visits will grow. I'm hoping that's the case!

Thanks again for your input. Lesley

with a posting rate of what you are able to achieve and the number of posts you have on your site, then at the moment you are unlikely to be highly ranked at the moment.
but over time you will get ranked highly if google thinks your content is ighly relevant.
it will only have been a waste of time if you give up - then you will never rank.
so stick at it, we all go through the doubts. it is those who dig deep and carry on believing and come through the other side that stand a chance of winning.
just looked at your site.
you can tell you have done a lot of research or have a lot of knowledge of the subject but...
you seem to be speaking to medical people rather than the common man - most of your articles start out 'so you have had a panic attack....' how do i know if it is a panic attack, i just felt weird, sick, out of it... what was it? will it happen again, will it happen with my kids in the car and what happens if it does.
believe me all of these thoughts wil lbe racing through the head of a person who has had a panic attack.
so write to them and calm them down and take them through a sequence of how to get diagnosed, treated, naturally or with drugs.
but this is my opinion, your target audience may be different.
good luck
phil

Hi phil, thanks for your reply. Yes it's tricky not being able to write more regularly. I'm doing what I can.

I'm glad to hear that if I keep building the content then it will eventually rank.

My plan is to start adding posts about how to help people reduce panic attacks. Currently I'm doing informational posts. But I hear what you are saying about addressing it more to the common man. It's tricky getting the balance right between writing a well researched article, that is authoritative and tailoring it to the general public.

I guess it's practice.

Thanks for your feedback. I hope I get there in the end!

my view on the balance is - would you say that to a friend who has had 'an experience'.
if not then that's where to aim it.
there is a major difference between writing a medical book on it and talking to people about it.
but yeah... keep going and you will find your voice and get ranked.
you could always dictate some of your articles and work on them later if that helps.
you could talk to your child about your posts and record them.

good tip, thanks Phil

Hello, I'm just wondering how long it typically takes for a post to start moving up google?

Lots of great answers here so far Lesley!

In my experience, with a fresh site, it could take weeks, maybe months.

With an established site, you can rank on Page 1 within hours.

Good to know, thanks Nathaniell

There is no real answer to this except one

The more content you write and the more your update your website with fresh content the quicker your website will gain authority and rank better.

If you publish at least 2 or 3 posts every week your website will gain traction that's the key really just keep publishing more and more content

The other key factor is to publish some posts that are not all keyword targeted so your site looks more natural I learned that from Kyle

So you pick a single word or phrase from one of your posts and just write a natural article on that subject helping people in your niche

Hope this helps

All the best for the future

Six months isn't a rule, it's a general idea of time, btw. ^_^;

Depends on how good the content is and the consistency and regularity of you publishing content.

It depends on a lot of factors. The newness of the website, the competition, the content of the post, etc. If your site is new, it doesn't start ranking well at all. But after 6 months, you'll start gaining some authority so as long as you create decent content, choose low competition keywords, you'll start to climb the ranks.

Thank you. That's helpful. The site is only about a month and a bit old and because I've got limited time to write I'm getting one post out a week. So I will have to be patient. I'm finding the training here good though and I've learnt a lot already. So hopefully it will pay off.

If you can't post often, try to post consistently. If you've only got time for one post a week, make sure to do one post a week every week, preferably on the same day.

While the school of thought on WA is the more content the better, there are other schools that say recent content is definitely excellent for SEO, but consistency is more important.

I know excellent bloggers that only post once a week and have millions of hits. But they also spend the other days promoting that content and repromoting older content and updating older content.

So if you only have time for once a week, that's okay. Just be consistent and Google apparently likes that too. ^_^

Just make sure the quality is good and you'll do just fine.

Thanks for the advice. I will try to be consistent. I tend to get one done each Tuesday, so I will keep going with that for a while.

I'm really hoping I might make a bit of money from this and be able to drop a day or so from work, which would mean I'd have more time to invest too.

I have a 3 year old, so when I'm not working I spend the rest of my time running after her. I fit in the writing when I can. But I do write well and I think my content is good. So hopefully it will be ok.

Many thanks again.

You do it as you can fit it in. Sometimes we don't have a lot of time to invest at first. It does make it harder to rank sometimes at the beginning versus someone who has 12 hours to spend every day. But it's still absolutely doable. Just might take a bit longer and might not be an immediately huge jump in income, so try not to get discouraged. Patience and persistence and you'll get there.

Seeing as you can write here to me in near perfect grammar, I think you'll do just fine. ^_^; Good luck!

I found a useful video on youtube that I'd like to link to on my blog, I'm wondering if there are any issues re copy right. Is it ok as long as you give the creator a credit?<

Embedding is the best option, so users don't have to leave your site. By uploading to YouTube, the video creator automatically gives anyone permission to embed the video, so you can definitely use it.

Here's how to embed a video:

Thanks!

If the video is in the Public Domain and you are allowed to share then yes you can use it.

be aware that the owner of the video can take it down at any time so best to check now and again.
Robert

Great thank you!

Happy to help

If they have an embed code for the video on YouTube that means they checked a box that says they were okay with people embedding their video on their sites. Just nothing naughty, ya know.

Thanks... yes, nothing naughty!
