Okay so, if you missed the announcement by Facebook. And, you are marketing on Facebook. This post may be helpful. Who knows! As, you all ready know Facebook is always making changes.

Well, Facebook is changing its algorithm over the next coming week.

I personally do not spend too much time on Facebook as they can bring a lot of traffic but, I also have learned to use other platforms because, FB can be iffy sometimes. And, well, me and FB just doesn't get along at times...

How will this change affect you?

I am not sure, I can tell you what Mark Zuckerberg and the team has in mind.

Facebook has decided to change its news-feeds so that the content people see are from friends and family. The news feed is limited, and they have decided to allow more post from friends and family so, an actual conversations can be sparked.

What does this mean?

So, if you are having actual conversations with people, I would imagine you would be fine. They will show less public content. Opposed to content such as publishers, groups, promoted sources, videos, and businesses.

They also want to make sure the people, like friends and family are coming closer together. So, overall although you’ll see less news, the news that you should see would be high quality.

This is considered highly quality News in 2018:

  • Publications news that the community rates trustworthy – so yes, this means that people are now going to rate certain content and say if it is trustworthy or not…

As these updates are made some pages may receive a big decrease in their traffic depending on what type of engagement you were getting and how people interacted with it. Engagement bait will be continued to be demoted.

  • Is the news informative? The publication must be informative
  • And they will show news to relevant people in their local community

When will this take place?

This is a test that Facebook has not rolled out yet, but it will roll out next week and it will start with the United States of America. Then it will go internationally in the future.

They also state that person to person will be more valuable than person to page. Here are the links ot the Facebook blogs so you can read more on your own leisure time….

News Feed FYI: Bringing People Closer Together

My conclusion, I could only imagine that if you are deemed as a trustworthy person and your receiving interaction than you would be fine. They did mention in the article that Live video will still be seen because, they happen to get interactions from people. Live video will only help if you are into doing Facebook Lives.

Well, I thought I share this news just in case someone missed it. What are your thoughts about Facebook? Do you market there? And do you think this will have a big impact?

Thank you for reading and have an awesome day!

I think this is going to put more emphasis on authentic interaction, something that Facebook has really started to lose as it is riddled with promotions and people attempting to get you to "PM them" so you can get more information about their latest scheme.

Investors did not like this announcement. Why? Because they are shortsighted and know this will lose them advertising revenue.

The thing is, most people I know are vacating from Facebook and using Instagram, Snapchat Twitter or Pinterest as their main social platforms because they have grown tired of ads and there are viable alternatives without so many ads.

I think this is good, generally speaking, for folks here at WA that are taught to interact within Facebook in an authentic manner.

The shakedown is going to hurt spammers and those seeking to get you to "private message", "comment on" or "share" their stuff...and certain is going to rid the spammy posts from people's feeds that are pure promotions.

I think your right, Kyle! I, myself haven't used Facebook for long time due to all of the ads, promotions, and people dropping in my inbox to promote their shiny objects to me.

When I did start using FB almost 6 months ago. I noticed that at first, it was okay. I had real interactions with people, comments, shares, and likes and so on. Then again, I was just posting positive quotes to keep people motivated.

Then after I started getting a bigger following, of entrepreneurs, all they did was promote to me. That is when I realized that people do not come to FB to be sold to, they come to FB to socialize. So, basically those people showed me what not to do.

Some of the entrepreneurs, where so slick that they would PM me automatically, everyday and offer me every shiny object possible.

I've even had people add me to their email list without filling out some sort of opt-in form and never even visited their website. And, I think then was the time that I realized that it was getting out of hand. So, I left and stopped using FB.

I am glad I did because, I ended up in WA the moment I left FB.

Other than that I believe if Facebook can get all this under control then, Facebook wouldn't be so bad.

I have been trying to learn how to use the other platforms as well because, they are not as noisy as FB.

It's good to hear that maybe Facebook changes can be an advantage to us WA members, because as long as we are interacting as I was before, then people usually come and ask you what do you do. I guess that would be our opportunity to just casually tell them what we do.

Thanks for stopping by, Kyle! Have an awesome day...Much success to you in 2018 and beyond...

Absolutely Kyle. My money's on Pinterest and other visual apps. Even Snapchat which was falling behind is catching up fast due to FB disillusionment!

Thanks for sharing:). Facebook and I don't get along very well together either, Kisha! It's just so time consuming:(. As Mike says, "There are other alternatives:)"
Blessings:)
Suzi

You're Welcome, Suzi! I agree, especially right now, Facebook is time consuming and people like to throw too many shiny objects your way especially in the MMO niche.

Maybe, after we get the hang of things then, FB could be an option. But, only time will tell. Although, I haven't' been to active on FB. Hopefully their changes are for the better, it would be nice for people to just have a normal conversation than just being sold to all the time.

Much Success to you in 2018 and beyond...

Kisha

Thank you! Same to you:)

You're Welcome :)

Thank goodness there are alternatives to fb

Yes, I wouldn't rely on just one platform. So, you're right Michael!

Thanks for this information Kisha.

I heard, on TV I think, that Facebook were going to make changes but had no detail about what they intend to do. So, your information is timely.

I have pages on FB for each of two websites and every time I post to them I receive an 'encouragement' from Facebook to Boost the post. Often they will present me with an attractive image and encouragement to use it as an advertisement. I haven't done either and have considered searching WA for training on both Boosting and advertising. Having read your post, I will leave those ideas for now.

Many thanks :)

Hey there, Valerie! I'm just starting to get into FB, primarily for business purposes. What exactly is meant by boosting your post? Did you reach out to them to get further details?

How ironic that now that I finally decide to use FB, they want to make changes!

Yes, Mary the final changes haven't been made yet so, that is probably why FB is asking you to boost the post. The changes, I believe they are trying to make is, to make sure we are not just promoting to others. Which is a great thing to me because, when I was on FB it was getting out of hand. I was promoted to like every 30 minutes it seemed like.

The great part is, here in the WA community we are taught not to be salesy so, this may not effect us. I don't know yet. The only problem is we won't know the whole outcome until FB does make their final changes.

Right, now I am just focused on other platforms because, there is traffic there and they are not as noisy as FB.

Hi Veronica, boosting your post means FB will show that particular post to so many people. Like if it says Boost this post. It will also show you how many people will see your post. These people are not necessary on your following list or friends list. The post will be showed to a certain amount of people. FB will tell you how many people it will be shown to.

And, boosting a post can help you get likes, and it can help you get followers. IT usually does not cost that much, I believe like 2 to 3 depending on how many people that post reaches.

When, I was taught about boosting post. I was taught not to promote your product. I was taught to promote like a positive quote, something congruent to your product type post like just (informative information) or something that will grab peoples attention.

That way they like your post, and some will share it. If you grab their attention someone's attention then they will automatically come back and check your page out. Some will even start following you.

When comes to boosting post, there are different views. Some say do it, while other say don't it is a waste of time. I never boosted a post so, I can not tell you from personal experience.

In short, let us not put all our eggs in one basket...

Jeff

I agree Jeff, definitely not putting all my eggs in one basket.

Thanks for the info! I just struggled for over an hour trying to set up a business page for my website. Now I'm wondering if I should even bother with FB as a means of promoting my site. I created a new user account because I don't want to spam my "real life" friends with posts about my side hustle. LOL!

What are your thoughts on creating a Facebook group rather than a page?

Hey Tisha,
It's hard to say what's going to happen. I'm going to keep updating my business pages. I probably won't do it at the same intensity.

Best Regards,
Jim

Yes, it is like Jim said, it is hard to say what will happen. I am not sure about this one...

Hey!!! How the you go about it by setting up a business page in your site please I need help

Click on the "settings" icon on your Facebook Page. Choose "Create a Page" from the drop-down menu.

Hey Kisha,

I did read about this development. It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. On the one hand, FB members may view it as a noble effort to reduce the amount of advertising. On the other, Zuckerberg has shareholders and Board of Directors he needs to answer to. Advertisers see this as biting the hand that feeds him. It's unclear if it's just posturing on Zuckerberg's part and the end result will mean slightly less advertising or if he's going full on to alienate those advertisers.

One takeaway for us here at WA is this is another example how you can't depend on any one medium to make your money. We need to diversify our sources so that the impacts are not as great.

Best Regards,
Jim

That is absolutely right, Jim! I definitely agree with you. We do need to learn how to use other sources. I learned this when Facebook kept putting me in their little Facebook jail...and I wasn't even promoting anything. I just setting up my profile.

So, only time will tell how this plays out. I am going to be focusing on more stable platforms that is for sure.

Much Success to you in 2018 and beyond
Kisha

If there is an upside, people can stop buying shiny object info products based on Facebook. No wait, some "gurus" will find ways to con people into how they have gotten around the new changes!

lol..you're right Facebook was the place where most shiny objects came from..I know a lot where thrown at me there...Leave to some Guru they'll figure out...lol..lol.

Hi, Kisha. I don't do much on FB, just some personal stuff with friends. Have never learned to do anything else on it. (I'm too low tech, ya know!) When I get to the point of marketing through social media, I doubt if I'll be using FB. Seems like there's just too much going on there for me. Thanks for sharing this info with the community. I'm sure it will affect a lot of our members who do use FB to get traffic. Carol

Hi Carol, Oh that is good that you just engage with your friends on FB. That means that you won't be affected by this change when it comes to you and your friends engagement.

I definitely agree with you Carol, Facebook has too much going on for me too. Everything I attempt to log in and try to engage I can't because, random people just love popping up in my inbox and then I find it to be a waste of my time. I am trying to stay focused. So, I just stay away from it too.

Yes, I think it will affect a lot of people but, only time will tell. I guess we'll have to see how this pans out...

Have an awesome day, Carol!

Kisha

You, too, Kisha.

I have a presence in FB with one website but I am not doing much to promote on it. Am focussing marketing elsewhere.

Will be interesting to see how the roll out goes.

Yeah! I would be focusing elsewhere too. It really will be interesting to see what happens. I guess well find out soon how this pans out...

This is really good to know. Thanks so much for sharing.

You're Welcome!
