3 Things I learned about WordPress this Week!

I am new to using WordPress, just like many others. There are some things I learned along the way. Some were easy learning while others ended up being a horrific experience.

So, here we go....

Plugins

In order for your site to be speedy, or at least have a sufficient amount of speed. You have to keep your plugins to a minimal amount. The golden number is 5 but, of course this depends on the plugin that you are downloading.

I still have not figured this one out all the way but, I have noticed that some plug-ins will slow down your site, even if you keep the plugins to 5 and below. While other times, you can download up to 8 and you'll get the same results. Of course, right now, my plugins are at the minimal of 5

I would just test the site speed of your site every-time you add a new plugin. At least this is what I have been doing.

Images

The images were the most horrible experience that I had thus far with WordPress. In fact, they have set me back by a week or so.

Anyways, what I have learned is whatever you do DO NOT EVER DELETE the images from your WordPress Media Library, if you want them to still appear on your site.

I called myself trying to make room and speed up my site. So, what did I do? I'll tell ya, I deleted the images. What else?

Well, that is not the route to take. When you delete the images from your WordPress media library, it will also delete the images from your site.

Each and everyone of them were gone...so, I had a fun filled day trying to go and fetch my images once again and re-upload them to my site.

Backup your Site

Although, we have site support, at the time my images were deleted from my site, I thought maybe I could contact site support for help.

That is what I see almost every member say when there is something wrong with your website, right? Well, I contacted site support and I explained the situation and asked if my site could be restored to the latest time frame.

They kindly told me that there is no specific date and time that they could restore the site.

Anyways, to make a long story short site support did not restore the site. So, I highly recommend backing up your site every week or whenever you make changes.

Invest in an External Hard Drive

After my computer crashed, I would also recommend to invest in an external drive. USB flash drives can be purchased for $7 and up...This small purchase is surely worth it! I'd rather spend the small fee than lose everything like I did....

Well, I am off to the races once again, I have a whole lot of catching up to do with my site...

I hope everyone has an awesome day or night!

Hello Kisha

Thanks for the tip!

How about using google drive to save your work on, then you can access it from anywhere.

Cheers

Hi Willem, you know I still have not figured out how to upload everything to my Google Drive. I think I will work on that this weekend because you are right. I would always have access to my information from anywhere. Thanks for the advice.

Hello Kisha

We have converted our whole accounting practice to Google Drive, so you must shout if you need any help!

#tfa

Oh that is cool! I will definitely shout if I need any help. Thanks again for the tips.

Very good advice and reminders to us all!

Continued success!

Joshua

Thank you, Joshua! Reminders are always good in my opinion. To your continued success as well...

Oh I feel your pain. I have had a number of mishaps. Just today one of the members suggested that I clear the cache on my computer, so I did. Good Lord! Wa site turned into scrambled eggs, My online bookkeeping account went blank and frozen, my whole business inaccessible, it was scarry. I called my tech support guys, 6:30 in the evening immediate answer, (that is so rare for companies), they are always right there. They are also who installed Windows operating system for me no extra charge. They removed a Trojan reactivated all the stopped drivers, they regularly scrub all my electronics, phones, printer, everything. They are available 24-7 to fix whatever, no extra charge. I highly recommend anyone doing business online to have an account.
Bit International is the company their # is 1-800 986-4280
Good speed with your catching up. You are miles ahead of me already

Oh no, I am sure your experience was scary. It sure sounded scary. I hope everything is under wraps now. I know how much stress and set back losing important information can cause. I am sorry you had to go through that...

Thank you for the company information, I will definitely look into them.

yep all in order. BIT put all my my accounts back together, they called the following day to check up. I had them look into my screen saver, it had stopped working. They searched every nook and cranny and fixed that too. A fun side perk, the adblocker they installed prevents my Pandora music from playing commercials or throwing pics of men a might want to date at me, :) Cheers

Thanks for sharing this info. I am working on pics now. Sorry for your aggravation though.

Your welcome, just glad to share my experience before, someone else had to go through this...

I'm so sorry that happened to you, Kisha. I had an issue with images, too, but it was with SiteContent. It wouldn't let me login to publish the pages after I edited them and added the images. So, after many back and forths witih Site Support, they finally told me to use WordPress, and I had to start all over like you did! So much fun! But they're up on my site now, and if I do say so, it's gorgeous now that it has images on it! (It ought to be after all our effort, right???!

Hi Carol, I am so glad your site is coming along. I agree your site should look really gorgeous with all your hard efforts. I must say now, that anyone who puts effort into their sites, I applaud them for any all their efforts because I know from first-hand experience now there are tough times.

One day, all of this will be behind us. Now, I think we should be pros at these images, after all the chaos they gave us...

That's the truth! Have a great weekend. Carol

the smallest things make the biggest difference

Thanks so much for the information, Kisha:). I didn't know that images we delete from our media library will be deleted permanently. Yikes! I'm glad I found out ahead of time! Thanks so much for the share:)
Blessings:)
