Hi everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself and get some input on our situation.

My husband and I are trying very hard to make enough money online so he can quit his soul-sucking, exhausting J.O.B. I've been working online since about 2005 and actually was a WA member for just a month or two somewhere between 2008-2010. I'm very happy to see that WA is still going stronger than ever! That's a lifetime in internet years.

I have been doing affiliate marketing to a limited degree since that time and even used to have an affiliate marketing course, although its main focus was teaching how to create a WordPress site and how to join affiliate programs. I didn't teach much beyond the technical basics because due to some health issues I was never able to give it the time it needed and therefore didn't have a level of success where I could say, "Here's how to be successful online." But I love to teach people what I do know.

Now I have that time, but I find that I am not sure which road to follow. I've been doing print on demand (POD) fairly seriously since early 2017 and I love it, but I'd like to add affiliate marketing back into the mix, especially since my husband has recently gotten interested in it. (Back when I was doing it, he kind of thought it was a scam, unfortunately, but at least he finally realizes its legitimacy now, lol.)

So I started a couple of blogs (before finding my way back to Wealthy Affiliate so they are not hosted here). One is a case study where people can follow us as we work toward our goal of bringing him home from work, and one is about walking for mental health, and along with POD, it's a subject of the case study, as I want to monetize it with affiliate offers once it's more established.

So this post is partly a call for input on those blog ideas. I feel like the case study blog, even though the MMO field is crowded, could find an audience who would like to follow a couple of regular people starting basically at square one. And eventually, if and when we're successful, we'd like to help others who've followed our progress.

As for the walking blog, there are lots of things we could monetize with, such as equipment walkers would need (shoes, clothing, water bottles, etc.) but these are not high-ticket items so I'm not sure whether it would be much of an income stream. I'd also create print-on-demand shirts and stuff for the blog that would hopefully appeal to readers, and that way I can combine my two online areas of endeavor (POD and affiliate marketing).

My husband would like to start a small blog or even a one-page site that has opportunities to promote more high-ticket items. We're trying to figure out a niche for him now.

In a nutshell, I have the technical skills and experience to set up web sites, landing pages, autoresponders, etc., but I have not been able to make anything pay more than a few hundred a month at most, so clearly I need a lot of help with the niche selection and/or marketing part. I hope to find that here.

If you have any suggestions, ideas, feedback - we're all ears! Thank you for reading!

This blog is a great "read" Laura! Wow you have some impressive experience there and write so well!

All the best for your success.

Cheers, William.

Thank you, William!

You sound like someone who will be a great asset to the training platform here. Why not do training and webinars for WA. There is some money in that. Maybe your husband has a hobby or interest he could do a niche on. Or, for now he could start on the MMO side, it seems that with your experience you can help him to build an audience. Jim

Thank you, JKulk1! What exactly do you mean by doing training and webinars for WA?

Well, once you become premium you can make training blogs and webinars on different aspects of building a website and you get paid for it. Jim

Seems like you have a plan of sorts Laura, you just need to focus on one thing to begin with and get it up and running then you can branch out into your other areas of interest.

It doesn't do to take on too much at once so choose one that you have experience and/or knowledge of and then you can write articles with some authority.

As you probably know by now people like to see that the author of a piece actually knows what they're talking about.
This builds up trust and they will keep coming back to see what else you're writing about.

I wish you well in your endeavours and you get stuck, you get in touch and i will do my best to point you in the right direction.

Enjoy your Sunday and the week to come.

Thank you, Robert, your advice is appreciated. I know that I do tend to take on too much.

I think my problem is I'm afraid to focus too much on one thing because what if that thing I choose has no chance of being successful? Then I've wasted my time.

For instance, I could give the walking blog 100% of my time and attention, but maybe it's not a good niche or the affiliate products are too cheap to make much money. Wish there was a way to know whether something is worth your time. :)

I don't do affiliate marketing now but when I did I always went for the high end products.

This made all the sense in the world to me simply because where is the sense in promoting a product for say $10 commission, and getting 10 sales for a $100 when you could get the $100 for one sale.

You're putting in the same amount of time and effort so why not make it worth your while?

As I said previously, go with something you can write with some authority.
It might, and probably will take a wee while longer but the end result will be worth it.
