This week I've been busy learning to create Panoramas.

Last week I shared the Longhouse from a 2D perspective.

It has been an arduous journey but now have determined a way that I can share it in full surround 3D.

Have a look inside and explore the inside of the longhouse.

For those that are interested, I first took bracketed images from 4 perspectives separated at 90 degrees from each other, then added an image looking up and one looking down. 18 images in all. Then I converted the bracketed images into 6 hdr images. This technique combines the bright areas and the shadow areas to give a fully defined image that is closer to what an eye sees. Now I'm down to 6 hdr images.

These hdr images were then imported into a stitching program, then I needed to add control points so that the image overlap was defined. After all that, I then created a panorama jpeg image. Once the panorama is created, I then needed to fix a few spots with an image editor, there are typically problems that don't quite get solved by the stitching software.

Then, the series of panoramas needed to be imported into a free display software that provides a place for the panoramas to live and be displayed on the web. It also provides a way to embed the finished product on a website. Whew. Yup, this is pretty time intensive.

Hope you like the finished product.

Just click the link to get a panoramic interactive view of the inside. Click and drag to pan around and view the structure. Zoom in with your mouse wheel or the letters q and w. https://round.me/tour/10828/view

How will this fit into my overall online strategy? I can see this as a huge benefit for real estate sales. High end houses can now be shown without the prospect even being in the same country. So I will be presenting this opportunity to realtors in my area.

I'm also working with the local businesses to provide Business views. This will help them to see how it can work and give an alternative if people don't want to join the Google ecosystem. Either way, I become the go-to guy.

Of course, these activities will hopefully allow me to create a community buzz around my directory and get some of the business owners interacting with each other online creating a stronger community.

Craig you will be making 3-D movies soon! Have you looked at my latest post. The Peace Church done this way is amazing.

That is a spectacular church. My upbringing as a PK has given me an appreciation of church architecture.

This is definitely impressive. The details that can be seen are amazing. I can think of one more way to use this in addition to the other good ideas you had. There is no way that I would be able to see this site. This would be a great way for children to take a trip there and never leave the classroom. You can see so much and even walk down the center of the long house just like you were really there. This is going to be a valuable tool for you. Hope that it brings people together like you want it to. Robin.

Educational tours is another good example of what can be done. I can think of several museums that might qualify.

Wow! this was really nice...great work and very interesting. I liked this Long house soo interesting.

The longhouse is an amazing look into the past. I love to just spend time in there.

I can see why...It is like a blast to the past!

Nice job, Craig. I've done quite a few panos and do a lot HDR. You have taken post processing to a new level. My compliment. May I ask what software you used for the panos?
Thanks,
Bill

Good job, but way over my head!!

The end result is all that matters.

Great work!

Thanks

Very Nice

Looks great! Adds new appreciation for the finished tour after reading your description of how much work went into it.

I like it Labman, good Idea, Marty:)

Thanks, I think so.

Those photos are really great! What a great idea you've put into play. Congratulations!

Thanks, I'm not finding a lot of competition. This should be one way to stand out from the crowd.
