On the Second Day of Christmas my true love gave to me...... A tree

Well actually we had some guys come and do a bit of TREE trimming.

They took down 9 trees. The biggest one was close to 150 feet tall.

OK, so it really is only 3 feet tall from this perspective.

The crane had to lift 3 trees clear of the power lines and the house but this one was able to be felled into the yard.

Here is the top of one tree being lifted to the ground by the crane. The sawyer is in the tree to the Right hanging on for dear life as the top broke free. It had to be cut into 3 pieces to be able to be handled by the crane. I have nothing but respect for the climbers that do this dangerous work.

All told there were 3 pines, a Cherry with a crooked trunk, an Elm a couple of Maples and Black Gum trees (I have never seen a Black Gum tree before, I thought they were Hickory trees) and one 50 foot tall Poplar.

I saved a few trunks from the mess. Before the end of January (If I get some good weather) I'll have stacks of Cherry, Maple, Poplar, and Pine Drying in the Tennesee sun.

I was sad that I had to let them take the big Pine in the top picture. I just don't have the tools required to handle anything that large.(Yet)

I wonder if you can guess what niche I'm targeting.

Yikes ... that was a project. I've got a tree thinning project on my yard improvement list, but should be easy-peasy compared to your project Craig.

Just several California live oaks that have become a leaf nuisance since our pool remodel. They have popped up like weeds, and I used to think they were pretty cool ... not any more.

I've got a Poplar tree in a neighbors yard that is reeking havoc in my yard from it's close to the surface root system. I'm considering asking the neighbor if I can buy the tree so I can have it removed and kill the root system.

Can see some new additions to “tools” in the not to distant future. Just think of all the neat projects that can come out of all those trees. Maybe even a few walking sticks to use as you survey all the fun ahead in January

I’d go completely bonkers with that much wood available for projects and then habitat for nature’s small animals and birds.

Trees are our best friends
Without them earth would not exist
No air, no shade, no humus...

Some trees reach the end of their lifespans and must be harvested. Fortunately, they are a renewable resource.

Yes... good housekeeping is needed there too

Mmmmh...... power tools?!?!

Firewood. Only joking.
The gum tree will take 7 years to dry out for firewood to burn properly.
I live in the Australia bush and I think it is the black box tree that is very hard to burn so farmers in the old days used them as fencing posts as the bushfires would not always burn them as the fires were moving too fast for them to catch alight.
10 years ago we cut up a brown box that had been cut down 80 years earlier but still had to be burned with other gums to keep it burning all night in the fireplace.
There are hundreds of different gum trees.

Craig,
Oh my, those were some seriously huge trees!
Glad you left professionals take them down.
Sounds like you just might be going into tree
cutting - or something to do with wood for
a niche possibly :)
Susan
Thanks for sharing - feel bad for those guys
scary job.

Shocking! :(

Totally :((

Wow, Labman, that's a lot of trees! Were they damaged in a storm? I know you will enjoy working with the lumber once it's dried. Let us know what masterpieces you create from them.

No, the Gum trees were attacked by Carpenter Ants as were the maples. One Pine was dead and threatening the house. The other big pines were just not too healthy and could have dropped on the house.

I know what you mean. I had tree limbs on my porch roof during 2 hurricanes last year. No real damage to the metal roof, but had to have help moving them off and cutting them up. I needed to have major trimming and thinning to my woods, that were too close to the house if I'd stayed there.

It couldn't be woodwork, must be documentary's on tree felling:):)
lol
Happy New Year!
Cass

I am not sure what your niche is but be careful!
Sandy
