How to find your customers? Get to know them.

I often get asked to provide feedback on new sites.

How old is your site?

If you have just started your site, you need to concentrate on getting content on your site. I recently read an article stating that traffic starts coming in reliably when you reach 50 posts. 100 posts is another breakpoint. So, if you have just created your 3 themes and are expecting to see results or are wondering why a new site isn't getting any traffic. You need to write more.

Has your site been live for less than 3 months?

Content builds over time. You need to build your site to a level that will get you noticed. You need to do your keyword research and research your audience.

Who is your market?

Do you understand your customer? Find some forums and see what it is that they want to know.

One good process to go through is determine who your ideal 3 people are. What do they do for a living, how many kids do they have? How old are they? Would you hang out with them in real life? Would they hang out with you?

When you have determined who you are talking with and how they view the world, then you can speak directly to their pain points. You know what it is that drives them.

In the Internet marketing space. One Persona could be the Stay at home mom with a newborn. There are 2 other young ones vying for mommies attention. How can she help other moms to help provide for their families and fill the money gap.

Another persona could be the cube warrior that has been passed over yet again for a promotion or a raise. He drags himself out of bed, drives for an hour to get to a workplace that he hates. What drives this guy?

Yet another, How about the medically challenged individual that finds it impossible to go to an occupation away from the home. One of the guys I have met on G+ has just survived his 3rd stroke. He's very personable but confined to a wheelchair and paralyzed on one side of his body. Think he might be a good candidate?

If you have done your research and know who and what you want to say, then all you need to do is get that into your website. Make it attractive so that people will read what you have to say.

Glad you liked it.

You are welcome.

Excellent post Craig. Thanks for telling us what we need to know about traffic to our sites. Even if it wasn't what we wanted to hear. Thanks for the post. It is a keeper.

Well, sometimes the truth is tough. You are a writer now. So, get your information out there.

Thanks for a good read.

Welcome

Thanks Labman! Some very real stats. My goal now is 3 months and 50-100 posts. I'd also like to have 500-1000 quality "likes" and "follows" to build up my social network and triggers. Then I should be seeing results.

Yes, don't forget to engage with your readers. Don't just broadcast.

Well? I got 200,000 page views in my first month. I even made the front page of Gawker on a slow news day with a bunch of false allegations.

Its not hard to get traffic to your blog....its a little tougher to convert them into paying customers! LOL!

Yes, you can interest them in your content. Gettting them interested in your product can be a bit more difficult.
Jay did a nice conversion Class.

I'm still defining who my audience is and these points will be very useful. Thanks.

It is important to understand their wants and needs to help you to help them.
