Free Voice Recognition
Leo recently blogged about Dragon Naturally Speaking for increasing your content creation speed.
I have this program. It is wonderful but it comes with a bit of a pricetag.
If you want to have the benefit of voice recognition but can't afford the price, Google Docs has an add on that works almost as well. It is a free add on available on the Google Web Store.

Hope this helps some of you.

My old rig crashed on me last week as if the devil was playing with it. I hope to get a new one today and I will check it as soon as I'm set up again.
Here's other free sources for both Mac and Windows

Thanks for the post. I had just been doing some research into free Dragon alternatives after reading the other post. I am curious to see how well dictation might work for me but I am not in the position where I can be spending money to do it. Will definitely check out your training!
Voice recognition is something I have never used. However, it's good to know what's available in the event of needing it in the future.
In fact, I might give it a try just for the experience.
Many thanks, Craig.
Windows 7 and above has a speech recognition system built in.
Windows speech to text. To be honest I have really only set it up last week and have gone through the training.
I will test it this week to see how it goes.

I use Dragon too. One definitely has to proofread and edit carefully but it's great for a more conversational style of writing.

I use Dragon naturally speaking all the time, although I often refer to it as Dragon unnaturally speaking! Having said this, I would be lost without it!
I hope the Google speech recognition works better than the speech recognition on my android phone as most of the time, it seems absolutely useless, or have I just had a bad experience with it?
To conclude, I would definitely recommend speech software, it saves me a lot of time. Just make sure that your computer has plenty of RAM as I believe it uses quite a bit.
