Consolidating

I decided it was time to consolidate some of my sites onto Wealthy Affiliate.

The OnlineLabGuy was due for renewal on Namecheap and I have been moving them to WA as they are at the renewal point. There isn't much sense to paying for URLs and still having to renew their privacy software when WA will do that automatically.

I also like to have the option to pay for the URL with credits. Anytime I can save a few bucks, I'm up for it.

The site has been hosted at WA for many years so I didn't need to actually move the content from the site, all I needed to do was transfer the domain to WA registration.

It is a fairly simple process.

You log in to Namecheap and go to the listing for the URLs. Select transfer from the sub menu and then select the site you want to manage. All that needs to be done is to turn of the site lock then get the EPP code.

The EPP code is emailed to the email address on record. For me, this was a bit of a challenge since that particular address has been around a long time and is riddled with spam. Sorting out one real email from the buckets of spam is tedious but needed to be done. With luck I have also sorted the spam into an automatic deletion algorithm ( I tried to do this with this email account but the interface sucks so I'm not sure if it will have the desired effect)

With the EPP code in hand, I popped over to the site domains section in WA and entered it as a new URL. Clicked submit and the system reported transfer in process.

4 days later the transfer was still in process so I got back on Namecheap and started a chat with their support team. Eventually they got around to sending me another email to confirm the transfer. A click on that email and the process completed.

Transferring a domain to WA can be a bit trying at times but if you understand the process, it is just a matter of ticking off the steps and being patient with the time that it takes to complete. I learned long ago that you need a few days to complete this process but the support teams are more than willing to help.

These people just don't want to let go of anything even if it's not much money they make it very hard. Glad you were successful, Labman!

Since I’m new here this information is pretty helpful thx!

I have a domain name registered at GoDaddy. Can I use the same process to move it? Just curious!

Yes, the GoDaddy interface is a bit different but you can move a registration from GoDaddy to WA.
