A Question for you.yes you!

Are you trying to sell to your readers?

Ok, two questions.

Have you tried to put yourself into their shoes? What are they needing from you?

The sad fact is that many of us are doing this just to make money from the internet. You often hear our leaders, Kyle and Jay say " Help people first, the money will come."

But do you really embrace this mindset?

In 1895 Mary Lathrap wrote a poem called Judge Softly.

(You can read the entire Poem here: http://www.aaanativearts.com/n...)

and is ascribed to the idiom walk a mile in his shoes. (Modified from the original walk a mile in his mocassins)

One stanza reads:

Remember to walk a mile in his moccasins
And remember the lessons of humanity taught to you by your elders.
We will be known forever by the tracks we leave
In other people's lives, our kindnesses and generosity.

If you can practice empathy and really understand what it is that your reader needs, what are his or her motivations for searching for what you have to say, then you have a chance to reach them on an emotional level, create trust and eventually get them to come to you with their purse or wallet open.

Practice Empathy.

Good insights Labman! Have a great weekend.

very good post! I just feel that I want to help people first and then finish my site and courses, because I have built many blogs before, in fact wanting to move some over here! Don't get me wrong because these lessons are sure teaching me some new useful stuff, but I want others who have never done this before, and then focus on myself a little bit here and there..make sense? :)

You are so very right. You have to think before you write. Ask yourself why you are writing your post, what's your point, what are you trying to explain to the read, not what are you trying to sell to the reader. I'm new at all of this but I ask myself what would I as a pet lover want to know about; then when I can answer that, I write it.. It has to be honest and heartfelt, in other words you have to believe what you are saying because if you don't no one else will.

Thanks Labman for your the great example.

Spot on. I choose a niche with which I am painfully aware - career growth and development. I have experienced the same issues as my audience so I feel I have a very good sense of where they are coming from. Two additional ingredients I think are important:

Authenticity - be sure to tell your stories, including how you failed and what you learned

Humor - try to use images that make your readers/customers think and laugh and don't shy away from being entertaining

If your customers are hurting and you lighten their load, good things will happen.

How does one find out what the reader is looking for? Ask question on the website and have hem sign up?

Read competitor's websites and the comments is one way. Not sure what your niche is but imagine what questions a person would ask if they were asking about the product(s) you are promoting. Google the question and just see what you can find. That will get you started.

One way to be sure is through searching the same on keyword tool like Jaaxy. This will show you the traffic that is interested on your question. Always use the keyword search.

You're right ! Great insight

The world would be a better place if we adhered to this philosophy

It is wonderful to see a Blog from one of the most respected members of wa. For such a long time you were a permanent ambassador I guess now you're more focusing on making money. I miss your interesting topics and your Insight. I hope my blogs mimic your quality. Much respect Sir.

And by the way I agree with you.

Very true, think of this all the time to be successful.

Thank you, that is really putting things into perspective.
