Hey guys,
I'm wondering if any of you have taken the trainings here at WA and applied them to getting and working with clients?

I took that leap this month and would love

Look at any local website. Do an SEO analysis. Check how the site ranks for quality key words. If junk ranking you have a potential client.

I totally advocate doing that because you can make money quicker by doing this kind of work, while waiting the many months for your website to start making you money.

I even created training on various ways to make money with the education you gain from Wealthy Affiliate. Everything we learn here for ourselves can be used for other people to make money from.

I am currently doing freelance work for one client that pays me every week for about 15 hours of work and I am always looking for more. What I make in 2 weeks more than covers my yearly cost for Wealthy Affiliate.

Check out my training for information on how I do this or click the link below to a specific way I go about finding these online writing jobs.

awesome, thanks. i'll have to check it out.

Hi - not in terms of ranking specifically, but dealing with clients - yes - both on a website level, and in a corporate environment.

Anything you'd like to ask, please PM me, or reply back here - if it will help more people here, than lets keep it an open discussion that others can share their experiences too.

All the best, Mark

hi mark,
I'm mostly interested in any advice you have for getting started. I've done some consulting work in the past but it was always through referral, so any ideas on getting leads would be great, especially since i dont have a portfolio to show.
Kyle

Hi - I would look around your local area first, and see what businesses are there.

Do they all have websites? Are they mobile friendly?

For those that don't, or aren't - why not mock up their homepage using siterubix, and a good responsive free theme - and then simply approach them saying "I notice you don't have a website..." or "Did you realise your website isn't mobile responsive - and that'll mean Google won't rank you as well - but here's what your site could look like if it were mobile" - and you show them your phone/tablet with their mock-up of what could be their new site.

When you start to talk about pricing - be realistic. Don't undercut yourself just to get the deal - or you will end up becoming frustrated, and won't do as good a job - and your relationship with the client may suffer, and they may not recommend you.

Decide what your hourly rate would be if you were to "work for an employer" with your skills. Then add a big chunk on top of that (double it maybe, or more) - that will give you the cash coming in for a job, and the sense that you've made it.

In my experience - people will have an expectation of what something should cost - and if it's too cheap, they'll have concerns - if it's too expensive, they'll let you know - and at that point, you just have to stick to your guns, and walk away if necessary.

One client paying you your going rate would be far better than you struggling to find 2 or 3 because you've undercut yourself just to get the work. Hold out for the people who will pay you what you're worth.

I hope that helps?

All the best, Mark

Does anyone want to trade guest posts with a link or two included?

Hi, I would love to trade guest post with back link. Please drop me a message if you would like to do the same. This is a great idea!!!

I'd suggest that you read the Moz article that I linked below.

Outstanding info, Thank you for sharing this!

Great question and very good response from Bob

You need to be very careful doing this -- Many (if not most) WA members have their sites hosted on WA's servers. Links between sites on the same servers can be seen as an attempt to "game" rankings via a method known as a "link farm". Getting caught by the Big G doing this can result in ranking penalties or even deindexing.

From moz.com:

"Old McSpammer had a farm, e-i-e-i-oh,
And on that farm he built some links, e-i-e-i-oh

With a backlink here, and a backlink there,
Here a link, there a link,
Everywhere a link, link..."

You get the idea. Back in the day, building your own network of sites designed to link to each other and build link popularity was an easy way to help boost your rankings. Nowadays though, link farming is an almost surefire way to get yourself into some big trouble with the engines."

Source (with video): http://moz.com/blog/whiteboard-friday-link-farming

I like the way you explained that very entertaining all the best

While I wish that I could take credit for the entertainment value, the folks at moz deserve the credit for that.

hmm, interesting. i was aware of not linking to your own sites from the same server, but not sure how that would apply to multiple accounts via the same hosting company, in this case WA. even with shared hosting plans, we can't all be on the same server, right?

WA is a WordPress multi-user website which means all users are on the same server so far as search engines are concerned. This is fine for 90% of users URLs, but if you need cPanel or if you site requires a lot of band width you will need to go with a hosting service where you have complete control.

So far as backlinks are concerned, backlinks from authority websites are a plus. Backlinks from sites with little traffic get you down graded by the search engines. Backlinks from social media sites show search engines people like you. When people like you so do the search engines.

thanks for the clarification. that helps.

So you've just finished crafting the perfect post. You incorporated a great low hanging fruit keyword, and are ready to hit publish.

The question is: what do you do after yo

Promote them on facebook, tweeter, google. Those are the three main media that most people are utilizing.

I usually share mine on G+, pinterest and twitter did try a small google ad campaign and it did help a bit

I have used Godaddy SEO optimizer with a paid option with some success. And this is not outside social media, but I have had more traffic with confirmed engagements using facebook paid promotion. You can do it for as little as a dollar a day, and choose parameters such as who you want to receive the post. Maybe 3% engagement, which is not bad.

Great Success to you

Take a look at www.bigdaddyfred.com

If you want to drive traffic to your site, I suggest reddit , but a bit of warning. Proofread your copy and make sure everything is spelled correctly. And be prepared to discuss, or defend your position. But it will drive traffic to your site as always best wishes Steve :-)

Outside of social media? I guess you can pay for your ads! I am not ready yet, but when the training calls for that, I will have to decide!

you can also try out google adsense its free and if people click on the ad you gain some revenue

I post something on Facebook, which I have set up to automatically post on Twitter too. I have started to email a monthly newsletter with a synopsis of my last several good posts and it links back to my blog. I don't have a huge list yet, but the readers don't know how many I have :). Looks professional and I hope to start promoting sales through email soon. I have noticed something interesting: My email subscribers, Facebook followers, and Twitter followers seem to all be different.

I usually promote on Facebook, Google plus, and tweeter.

Hi All,

I'm exploring a few ways to try to increase email signup. I keep coming across a lot of plugins/platforms that offer "exit intent" popups. That is: when a user start

ok, thanks for your input. i'm going to look into the sumome. it doesnt hurt to do a short test and see what the conversion rates are.

I'd never put one on my website they are annoying. ~Marion

Check out the plugin called "SumoMe." You can set up an app on the front end called, List Builder and create "smart" pop ups that show your sign up form, according to the amount of time someone spends on your site or page. You can also set this to specific intervals. They also have a pretty impressive Pro version, which I haven't tried yet, but that allows you to set up different pop ups on different pages, allowing you separate your lists according to content.

On top of that, the free app also provides Heat maps and content maps, which shows you exactly where your users are clicking and how much of your content they are reading. Plus, social sharing with a TON of placement options, as well as being able to track specific social shares for each piece of content. Ton of other features, too. It's impressive for a free plugin and worth giving a look IMO. All the best!

All I know, is that when I'm on a website with those I absolutely DESPISE it. Maybe it's just me . . .

Same here Don. I hate those things WITH A PASSION!!!
I find them obnoxious and cheesy and in your face, like a Jehova's Witness with his foot stuck in your door.
I figure if your content and layout is not enough to get someone interested enough to sign up for something, then sticking your foot in the door is only going to annoy them even more... a sure way to make sure someone never returns to your site.
Far better option is to have a "Bookmark this page" button

Hey guys,

I noticed that WA updated the feedback system, you can now earn credits by giving feedback or get feedback by giving credits...are these the same WA credits you ge

I am confused by the feedback credits. Yesterday I had 3 credits and today it is 1 - how come? How can that go down?

Did you request a feedback on your site? That would account for the 2 credits missing

Hi, no, I haven't yet requested any feedback.

see you got the answer

which answer? Am I missing something? Thanks for taking time to reply. I'm still confused (that, however, is typical!)

have a look at this to see if it helps you.

Hi. The new feedback credits are different from the credits received for signing someone up.

When you use the feedback credits, you first need to take time and go over another person's website in a thorough manner. You then write up a minimum of 250 words, giving them your review. You earn 1 point for this.

You can ask for feedback on your website, but you have to pay 2 credits for this. So, it is a pay-it-forward- type of system. Still very new. :)

That is what I figured, I gave two really thorough reviews...I wouldn't expect anything less when someone reviewed my site. Thanks for your input.

You're farther along than I am Kim, I haven't even done one yet! Nice going. :) Michelle

Thanks, I have two credits but haven't asked for a review request yet...I guess I may as well, not time like the present..Lol..
Oh, and when I did the first review, my site trust went from 30% to 40%, didn't see a change after the second one though....not yet anyways.

Thanks Kim! I didn't even think about your site trust going up, which is something I know I need to work on. Appreciate the heads up! :)

No problem, always like to pass on the new discoveries...Lol. :))

Thanks for clarification, Michelle. Wow, 250 word write up on a website is a lot of writing.

Agreed! :)

When I did my first review, my site trust went up 10%...definitely worth while. :))

Well, I have earned two credits for reviews so far, and it shows nothing on cash credit....at least not now, not sure if this will change or not. Good question though, I would like to see some other answers here as well. :))
