The 10-Year Approach to Success
People that are starting out within the online business world are fixated on making their first sale, whereas your actual fixation should be on building a brand.
I see it over and over again, when people set out to create a business online their first and only focus is immediately making a sale. Well that is exciting and all, making a sale isn't going to impact the longevity in which you can retain a business.
And the gratification will be gone the day after it happens...
If the only thing you think about when you're starting out is making a sale, that is likely going to hinder your progress in the online business world and it is certainly not going to lead to a sustainable long-term journey through the windy road we call business.
So if I'm speaking to you, or if you're having a tough time really envisioning any level of success within the online world, I want to introduce you to a concept that I call the 10-year approach.
The 10-Year Approach to Building a Business
When you set out to create your business, you initially are going to choose a direction for your actual business. Your niche.
This can be an exciting moment, it can be a confusing moment, and sometimes it can feel a little overwhelming in respect to the idea that you could actually create a successful business in that particular category. You have to get over that, because the reality is you CAN.
Every successful authority website you see out there, every successful influencer, every successful author, and every successful business person went started out with nothing other than a dream.
McDonalds started out with just an idea to serve burgers. Twitter started with one user. Jake Paul started out without one follower.
Yes, we all have dreams and ambitions, it is our approach to achieving those that will determine whether or not we achieve our dreams.
Those very same people that you see succeeding around you and building thriving businesses, are those that approached their dream with the idea that it may take some time. How long? Certainly not a week, or a month, or even a year. How about 10 years.
If you objectively look at your business, and think of what you could accomplish in a 10-year time frame, you would be positioning yourself naturally for a long term and successful journey in business.
Sure, getting your first sale, or even going full time and creating a 6-figure passive income will not take that long, but what if you gave your dream 10 years of effort no matter what?
It would be next to impossible to fail.
Not only that, you are going to be building your business with a brand in mind. You are not just going to be trying some new opportunity you are actually going to be working towards establishing yourself as a printable figure in your respective niche, so that is more than viable and possible.
Remember Carson and I started out online with ZERO knowledge. Wealthy Affiliate started out without a single user. These were just dreams, and the difference is that didn't have a timeline for our success, and we focused on building a brand with longevity and that brand started from day one.
The question now goes to you. Where could you be 10 years from now if you put forth the effort, continually educated yourself, immersed yourself in your niche and business, and sustained that?

Hi Kyle? I have a question for you ( I am not sure this is feasible). We have a nursing alumni reunion which is held every 2 years. This time it will be held in San Francisco, USA. This has always been attended by about 1000 nurses global.
Now, because of this I reserved the back page of the souvenir program for an ad for Wealthy Affiliate. Can I avail of a nice poster to serve as my ad for WA, which will be under my promo (since I will be buying the page) - where my name will appear, as I will serve as the referring person ?
And can I avail of a power point to discuss WA to a group of nurses that shall be in the conference. Or better yet. Invite one of you guys to talk about WA?

Sure, you could. This is definitely a way you could promote WA and we would have no problems with you doing it. Because of our lack of time and some big projects we are focusing on, I am not sure we will have time to attend and chat about WA, but I would be more than happy guiding on your some key points you can discuss as you start building out your powerpoint.
The event will take place on June 21 to 23, 2023 in Hilton Hotel, San Francisco.. From this day to next year , I have a lot of time to prepare. Do you a video explaining the synopsis of Wealthy Affiliate in a nutshell ? Maybe I could use your video played in a large screen? I don't think I am capable to handle unexpected questions, as I am very new to this.
In reference to the ads, as it will be 8.5 x 11, do you an official Wealthy Affiliate ad that I can copy and have it edited to reflect my information, and how will the process be, if i get people through this ad, and joined WA , since it's not done through my website.

You are absolutely correct. I started out as a personal trainer. 1st by making corrections in my own health. Then I went on to get a couple certifications and ran a small personal training business for 5 years. Then everything slowed and stopped. I knew that there was something more, and I couldn't put my finger on. I had problems with the industry of health and fitness never defining the spirit in the expression Mind-Body-?. So I went on to study metaphysics and I'm still struggling with branding, but I'm a lot closer to my niche than ever before. It takes time after the experience with many clients including athletes. The Brand is developing as a work in progress.
Sounds like you have things back in progress and on track, really great to have learned about you.

I believe my business (can be found on my profile page) given 10 years will have far exceeded my dreams. It will have reached millions and millions and millions of people worldwide. And I will have earned considerable money from it as well as having blessed many many people with it.
Absolutely the case, think what you have accomplished in 6 months time...now extrapolate that over 20x. A bright future is ahead, and you can become a worldwide, well-represented brand in that time.
There is no maybe in success, it is either going to happen or not. You get to decide, which is the cool part!

That's a great post, Kyle, I don't think many people realise how long it takes to build a business, whether it's online or offline. I like your very wise words about building a brand rather than focusing on making money! I guess it's a fairly natural thing to want to make money, but we need to be wise.
I remember when I first started online, I would spend far too much time checking my Google AdSense account! The time could have been spent in a much more constructive way!
Incidentally, can you remember your first sale coming in on Wealthy Affiliate?

The same people that sit in a job for 20 years with no raise, expect success in business within a month. The minute they are realistic about a business and treat it like it can be a substantial entity (with time), and give themselves time to achieve it. It will THEN become a reality.
