If I Work at This 8 Hours Per Day.

Last Update: May 28, 2018

...will I be successful online and when?

OR

If I work at this, how long will it take me to achieve success?

These are some very common questions I get, so I thought I would spend a few minutes explaining what the “process” of success looks like and some expectations you can have.

There are some really obvious things I have learned over the years in terms of those who will achieve success and those that don’t.

I think that if you are sitting in the boat wondering when success is going to strike or if you are just getting rolling and these are questions that have been possibly preventing you from moving forward, what I am going to tell you will be insightful and perhaps quite revealing.

Success is more patient than you…

The only time I see someone fail within the online world is when they quit...prematurely of their success. As we are building a business, sometimes we hit a crossroad or a difficult time when something doesn’t make sense, something “breaks”, or something simply is confusing the heck out of us.

The easiest way out is to quit. The more difficult way is to push on.

Guess which option MOST people choose? Quitting.

Guess who ends up reaping all of the rewards of a successful business? The Pushers.

So be patient, give success time and realize that it is not going to happen overnight.

Working for a MONTH really hard won’t lead to success, Working for a YEAR Will.

Keeping on this topic, most people have run into their fair share of GURU scams/offers claiming instant riches. Perhaps that is why some folks think that success within a month is a viability, when in fact it is not.

Success takes time.

Before you create a thriving business, you must first work on building a foundation for that success to build off of. I always say, you cannot build a skyscraper on a mud foundation. The same as you cannot build a very successful online business without a website, without quality content, without rankings, and without an understanding of how to do all of this properly.

It is at that point that you have a foundation, that you can start building out your website for success.

Success is not on a "clock", the determining factor is YOUR actions and YOUR hard work.

It happens at different rates for different people. Every niche is different, every website is different, and each and every one of us is different in our very own unique way. This is the cool part of business. We can all take a seemingly parallel path to creating a business, but very different at the same time and create a ridiculous amount of success.

I personally took 3+ months before I experienced any income online, by month 6 I was creating income with consistency, and by the year mark I was earning what would be deemed as a decent full time income.

Here I sit, 13 years later of being full time online...I am sure glad I didn’t put a clock or a time limit on my success. I simply said, I am going to achieve success...whatever it takes and I drew out my path to get there. Anyone can do what I am doing, that is what I find so crazy...but very few are willing to give themselves enough time to do it.

Treat business like a CAREER and it will become one.

I want to try a new venture! This is a new opportunity! Let’s give this Internet thingy a whirl. Those are the statements that scare the crap out of me.

The reason. People saying those are coming into this with the wrong idea.

This is the real world, this is business, and the online business world is no different than the offline business world in that (a) there is very little overhead to getting a business up and running (b) there is far more opportunity online than offline, 2.8 billion people in fact (c) there is no limit to your potential. You set your own goals.

The problem is that if you walk into the online world like it is some “opportunity” or some “venture” you are creating, it instantly tells me that you are going to take the “try until it dies” approach. Nobody has created a successful business without treating it like a long term BUSINESS.You are in business. For yourself. Treat it that way.

So when will the “S” word happen for you?

Only YOU can determine that. What I can tell is you is that it CAN and it will happen if you dedicate yourself, work hard, and remain persistent until/after you achieve your goals.

What I can tell you is that you have absolutely everything you need here at Wealthy Affiliate other than the YOU part.

Make today your day that you commit you your future, one that is not a month out or a few months out...but a year out and that will lead to several years within the online space.

Rooting for you and your inevitable success. ;)

About the time I’d had enough of those rip offs I finally recognized that success wasn’t going to come right away. It really was going to take work and persistence. So I started looking for something that said hard work and persistence were the keys to success. Anything that didn’t I started skipping over :)
Thanks for explaining it so well!

Hi Kyle thank you for taking the time to explain things in this way i am a person that doesn't give up easily i am prepared to work at it the only but i have, Is i know very little about computers, And no that is not going to be used as an excuse it is a fact, I am totally self tourt so it can be not so much scary more lack of knowledge i think would be the correct word, I am very interested in making a business online as i have always known in my mind it is possible in spite of all the close friends and relations saying you can't in my mind there is no such word as can't or cannot most of life we learn by our mistakes i should no i have made quite a few over the years lol my wife would tell you my biggest problem is i can be quite stubborn lol so i don't tend to quite i sometimes get stuck and then it takes a while to understand how to find a way round the problem,I also have to work and i get tired quickly so it can take a while to get threw the training but i will not quit i will follow it to the end when hopefully i will have a website that will work and i guess we have to keep updating things on our websites to keep up with every day changes such as products and other ongoing work with the websites updates and upgrades and so on, In the long term i hope to be successful and thank you for giving me this chance

Great reminder Kyle.
It was at the 3 month mark that I made my first online commission and I thought they will continue to come in.
Unfortunately not without being persistent and continuously working hard work.
Committing my future and treating my business like a career is the mindset that gets things moving along in the right direction.

Excellent , I like that, good for you.

Exactly Jackie, persistence is key. My first sale was around the 3 month mark and through effort, 6 months was the point I started to see consistency, by the year mark things were really moving along. :)

This article is so matter of fact. This is all new to me. I am not a techy and hit obstacles every day. But I stick with it and ask questions.
I love how all the members are here to help out. You just have to stay with it and do your best and not expect for success to fall in your lap without making the effort to make it happen.

I love this post. I am so glad that I did not quit. Although, I had a little set back but, that is okay. As long as I continue to thrive and push forward is all that matters. I love working on my site everyday. As I continue to learn how to build it out and watch my traffic slowly increase.

I am glad that I do understand that it takes time to see success. In my mind I have already seen some success. I built a site, wrote some articles that I could have never imagined myself doing,

In fact, some of those articles are ranked. So, I am learning SEO and always trying to improve in that area.

And I continue to push forward. Celebrating the small success so, that when the big success comes. I will be ready for it.

Thanks Kyle, the post are always inspiring and motivational.

Some time we are not meant to see until we are in the right mind set. This is a post that will carry on for a very long time. three months later I am back looking at this post again reminding myself why I am here because I just about had to leave not because I wanted to, because of circumstances out of my own control. But I learned one thing that we do have control of our circumstances if you are at the helm of your own boat. and make them turn around in our favour. You can't make a paper boat stay on top of the water it will sink but with the right foundations you make that boat strong.

Thanks Kyle,
I know myself from having a catering business and starting a home care business that it takes two to three year for you to generate sales, so I am in it to stay this is far the easy way to start a business for me and make money while I sleep.

These are the advantages of working for yourself at home: No business entity, just Sole Proprietorship, no overhead cost, no employees right now, don't have to leave your home unless you want to, use your own computer, don't have to have office furniture, or rent office space, don't have to have office equipment or supplies, don't have to have a big budget.

Thank you Kyle, this is really inspiring.

I've discovered the online business world in Oct 2017, ever since then I've been learning and made a little bit to experience the potential of making an income.

However my problem is that I've been jumping from one business model to another (Shopify, Amazon FBA, eBay, Udemy creating courses) and I wasn't creating a business that was sustainable.

Now being in WA, helps me focus on one business model, go all in on one niche and encourages me to keep going.

Kyle,
Thanks so much for your inspirational blogs. I built a traditional business that was very successful, but it took years after acquiring inventory, and paying overhead as I went. I am excited about WA, I'm learning as I go, slowly, but gradually, with a bump here and there, which I know is to be expected. Thanks for being patient with us newbies, but i will get there.

Yep, there is a definite learning curve to earning money online. It's not going to happen overnight, and it's not going to happen for everyone.

Learn to be patient, be willing to make mistakes, ask for help, try over and over until you know for sure that you are going to be capable of picking yourself back up each time.

Nothing that makes money is so simple that you don't have to do any real work.

So true. Every word. Not sure why people think if you work online, success just falls from the sky. Followed by a huge amount of money, of course.

In the beginning, I've given myself a year at least, before even thinking of reconsidering my options.

However, now, after five months I know I'm not quitting, ever.

I've learned so much during this time; it would be crazy not to use it in some way. Not to mention many ideas that keep on coming.

So, for now, concentrating on my two sites, learning, working hard, and considering myself successful already!

Best,

Hi there Kyle, quitting is a word that should best be removed from our everyday vocabulary......press the delete button! Whether we know it or not, we all have been given special/unique talents by our Creator and is something precious to behold. Whatever we do should be done wholeheartedly with a 100% commitment.
The online marketing world, just like with most other serious aspects of life should be approached with an open in-depth due diligent mind.........it is the all-important initiation of the new digital world. Those of us who do not recognise this fundamental fact will sadly be left behind.
I, therefore, see the WA program and especially the Bootcamp niche to be of paramount importance to the world out there. The opportunities are wide and abundant!
2. 8 Billion is what we can connect with........but let's not forget that are an estimated 7.442 Billion people on earth?.

Many thanks for your informative postings, Kyle.

Take care..................Johan.

This advice is gold.

I was very lucky. My dad was a business man, and while I'm sure he had jobs when he was young, the man I grew up with never had a "job", he was always self-employed. And always successful. I still have some of the notebooks that he used to jot notes of conversations, schedule appts, and book gigs. I feel lucky because I got to grow up seeing the rhythm of this existence.

And you're right, there's no "trying it out". You get in there and you do it. If you have a talent, skill, or product to offer, you offer it. Period.

As for timeframe, I often think of it as farming. You don't plant seed thinking that you'll have a harvest in a day, or a month... each niche/market has its own "harvest season." Like a crop it also has it's own "needs" (feeding, weeding and water) We simply need to learn the needs and season for our prospective niche. Then we can set our duties and expectations accordingly.

Thank you for providing us with a platform to put our skills out there. And thank you for your solid advice.

Yeah, so you get it. For some reason (and partly because of all the get rich quick scams out there), people think that the online business world should be immediate when no other accomplishment in life happens like this.

It takes work to achieve success, but I believe it is less work than an physical business and certainly does not require nearly as much money to get up and running with a business online.

Great article. I really enjoyed it. It helped give me some realistic goals and understand that I have to be patient and persistent in order to obtain the results I desire. I've wasted so many years working for other companies and making them successful to find that I'm always dispensable at the end of the day. That's a horrible feeling. If I can work overtime at someone else's job and make them rich or work two jobs just to get ahead, I can make this my second job and build my business. It's worth the sacrifice. Thanks for the advice.

It is hard to let go because there is so much to do and we think we're going to miss something.
However, we need to be realistic and give our brains a rest at times so that we are ready to tackle the next day.
It has been proven that you become useless if you don't have regular breaks and your peak performance dwindles rapidly.

So take small breaks during the day, and then make sure you get a good night's rest.

Truly said! It does make sense when you suggest that online business should also be treated as offline business. I think, perhaps, there are very few who would look at this as a sole business model to bank upon and hence work on this as a secondary interest. This leads to lesser time and effort given to this business model resulting in its ultimate demise, prematurely.

Totally, but I think people jump in thinking its easy because the other "Gurus" tell them that. Im in the tshirt biz and literally every tshirt site tells people that they can open a shop with no design experience. Its this type of message that leads people astray. They may not need experience to write "I love my dog" on a shirt, but the minute they release that shirt into the market they are competing with every person who does have design experience. So its a bit of a set up for them.

When something is easy, a necessity, or thoughtless, everyone does it. Like breathing.

When something makes people uncomfortable, usually as the result of having to learn something new or do something new, then you are going to have an order of restraint from folks and thus, many people don't.

We can all achieve success online. Not all of us will, and that is just how it works because many people will simply give up WAY too early.

It is truly the case, slow and steady wins the race. If you ask ANYONE that is successful online or offline, they will tell you the same thing. It takes time and effort. This is a constant.

The problem is that some people that are simply trying to earn money off of others, have made up the fool's gold lie that instant success can happen and that it is easy...they tell you this to "sell" their product, nothing more.

There is a concise path to success online and that is exactly what we teach here at WA. ;)

Great encouragement Kyle, thank you for this reinforcement. In view of all the work I've put into my Facebook following for the last two years in preparation for this time, this seems fortuitous. But I know that it's oh soo much more than that! It is my new business coming of age.

In the pursuit of success, I've often said, "Inch by inch it's a cinch...yard by yard is very hard". Meaning that if you are looking at the thing as a whole, you can get so overwhelmed that you are frozen in inaction and disbelief. When you break it down in bite sized pieces, you can handle things and begin moving forward. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. But you have within your hands all the training and support you would every want.

The struggle is worth the effort. i may only inch along day by day, but one day I will look back and say, "WOW...Did I create that?"

My time has come and I'm not about to 'give up' now. I'm on the verge of something beautiful. Helping people within my niche is also a success.

Thank you again Kyle for this reinforcement and validation. I will be joining you in the success circle.

And may all the naysayers watch my puff of smoke as I take off.

Blessings to all the other entrepreneurs...who, like me...don't give up on their dreams to build here.

See you up there Kyle...I plan to be one of those who never give up.Gathering my courage for the journey.

I cannot get over how many people think that just joining something they are going to be successful. It is hard work and like you say, those that push and keep on pushing are the ones who succeed in the end. I think after being years online and admittedly "quitting" things I can see now, why I wasn't successful, or I only had minimal success.

This is it. Wealthy Affiliate has every tool necessary for me to be successful and it is what "I" do with it that will count for me. I'm quite excited for my future really. I have so much belief in what is going to happen in perhaps a year from now, maybe earlier. Who knows? All I know is just keep following the bouncing ball, watch lessons, apply what I have learned and keep upping my game in quality content.

Again thanks for an incredible platform Kyle and all involved. There is nothing else out there in Internet land that comes close to Wealthy Affiliate!

I think its pretty amazing how I found you Sharon and for those who dont know (everyone LOL!)........ I was reading a review of a MLM business opportunity written by Sharon and while she wasnt scathing in her comments of it (because she's too professional for that !) she was clearly disillusioned and had left it in favour of her current online business which was WA !
She included the link to WA and the rest is history !
So ultimately I connected with Sharon via the" not so good" review she had written about another business ! Amazing ! And shes an Aussie ...well maybe from across the ditch but that'll do !

LOL Ros, thanks for that and it is so cool that I could share this with you as I know you have alot to offer in your niche.

Isn't it amazing, it was just following Kyles steps in the AFF. Bootcamp and doing the tasks, hence building the website and blog and this is the result!

An awesome place to be as you are slowly discovering yourself! All the best in your journey here - like I said when I first spoke with you - you are going to love it here!

This makes a lot of sence!! It is the same as when I was 24 years old I could had been a lab tech. grocery clerk a nurse but I would go for a couple of days and quit will lets fast forward 32 years and I have nothing, so I am for sure going to make this work, cause I'm an old lady now.

Yeah, do it. Make this work, it will definitely work if you work at it and if you spent a fraction of the time you dedicated to this that you did your other "jobs" in the past, you will be well on your way to a successful business online.

I read this once when I was still only a couple weeks into WA. That was back in august. I came across this post again and decided to read it. I got my first income when I was about a month and a half in...it really was not that much, couldn't even buy a meal at a fast food restaurant with it. I'm going into month 3 now and just trying to be patient. It does get hard though..Thanks for the inspiration!

Everything you have said here is absolutely spot on,Kyle. You have put this in a very good perspective. The bottom line to our success is you/me. it's really is a personal thing, it's all about how far are we willing to step out of our comfort zone to accomplish those goals we want for ourselves and our families.

Thanks, Kyle. I needed to hear/read this.

Exactly, and stepping outside of the comfort zone really isn't all that uncomfortable. Just part of the process is learning and when you take action on what you learn, you naturally become very proficient at that very task.

Awesome article. I'm so glad I found WA. Kyle and Carson really are truly amazing individuals. And, WA is a great place to be. I've seen in life that the atmosphere generated throughout a company often starts from the top down. And, that explains why WA truly is a family with members that are sincere about helping each other. You said it perfectly, one wouldn't expect any other type of business to be successful in a month or two, so this is no different.

Thank you.

I have been working towards creating my own business for some time now. It is a whole lot of learning, implementing, working, making mistakes, having successes along the way, more work and a terrier like commitment to making it happen.

I really appreciate being a part of this community, the brilliant training and having two founders who are genuine in paying it forward. You and Carson are a very rare find.

Yeah, sometimes it only takes a bit of perspective to truly push yourself and motivate yourself to achieve brilliant things. The same person that wants success in their first month is typically the same person that has been stuck at the same job for 20 years without a raise and lowered benefits.
