I just started a new site yesterday and realised that 2 of my pages where very similar and could be combined into one page.

I copied the information from the page I no l

Nah, you'll be fine. Plus, it's a brand new site, so you basically snuck in the changes before Google saw anything :)

You have already deleted the page, so there is no duplicate content.

If the site is one day old, I wouldn't worry about it. Even though it is indexed, it is unlikely to be ranked.

Google Analytics may show a 404 error at some point because the search bots won't find that page.

You can go to the Search Console (formerly Google Webmaster Tools) - and request the URL to be deleted from search results but I would only recommend that route when you have lots of 404 errors because having a few will not affect rankings.

Where the page is already getting traffic from search, you can use a redirection plugin to place a 301 permanent redirection pointing visitors to the correct URL, but this does not apply to your current situation.

Instead of deleting a page right away, an option is remove it from the menu and tick 'no index' 'no follow' in the SEO settings to stop the bot from crawling the page. As long as your SEO plugin is correctly set up, a new sitemap will be automatically generated with each crawl, so after a while you can delete the unwanted page. ~Jude

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply

I was told if I put my domain name into google followed by a .com then it would show all the pages that have been indexed and it did show two pages, but not the page in question so as far as I can tell it was not indexed yet.

Thanks again :)

How can I have a number of 'sessions' in google analytics and also have 0 clicks in google webmaster tools.

How is it possible to get onto my website for a session witho

There will always be discrepancies between the two tools because they measure things differently.

http://www.lunametrics.com/blog/2015/08/05/google-search-console-clicks-vs-google-analytics-sessions/

Thanks for clearing that up for me

I'll leave it to the more experienced. I'd like to hear the answer too. Geoff

Not dumb, There are always discrepancies between the two of them. I forget what circumstances create them though.

I prefer the look of my pages without the huge h1 page title at the top.

If i set the css to not display page title will the hurt SEO?

Thanks in advace

Kyle<

I think so, yes. Having your keyword in an h1 is important. It's not VITAL though, there are lots of pages that break SEO rules and rank. But as far as stacking things in your favor to rank for intended terms, h1's are one of the basic building blocks that's easy to use in your favor. That's why we use keyword in title and URL.

In a very minor way, yes. It has been proven in the past that having your keywords within H1 and H2 and H3 tags helps SEO. But, that being said, if your content is solid - media rich, unique and very informative, this would be of little consequence.

I would to to create a static home page like jays from Affiliate resources

https://www.affiliateresources.o

I know this is the same answer as below, but it's actually correct. Even if you set your home page as "home", it should not show in the URL.

If you have changed your reading settings and it's still showing /home, then this may be an issue or "feature" of your theme.

You have to call the page something. Though, if your home page is showing the h1 title you can just remove the title (keep the permalink) and it will no longer show the h1.

Thanks Nathaniell that's a big help

In order to set this you go to your dashboard>settings>readings. Right there you can make your static home page, if you wish to. WA advises to have a blog roll as home which I did. All my posts will feature here, the last one first. Check it out on my site: chardonnayfans.com. Let me know if you have any questions after that.

Sorry to be a pain but could you re-read my question please. I already understand how to do that, but to do so requires me to create an extra page, called "home" for example and then that extention will appear in the URL.

If you take a look at the link I provided to Jay's Affiliate resources page you will see his home page URL is

https://www.affiliateresources.org/

and not

https://www.affiliateresources.org/home

I don't understand how he has done this?

I guess you better ask Jay then. You can PM him.

I'm just trying to find a decent keyword for my cheap flight page and I'm doing the usual thing on jaaxy but I've been left confused at the results. Here take a look.

Perhaps there are other factors taken into the seo quality algorithm that we are unaware of. I agree, I would think that "how to find the cheapest airline tickets" would be a better keyword, so I'm not sure why it's this way.

Greetings Kyle!

I'd suggest you go right to the source if you'd like to verify your comparison - the AdWords Keyword tool. There's a bit about it at You can verify the relative number of searches on Google with the tool there. The number will vary from Jaaxy, because Jaaxy takes into account other traffic sources.

You can also go to the Google search engine and search for the keywords enclosed in "double quotes" to verify the number of competing web sites. To get that number (the "Quoted Search Results, or QSR), you'll have to go to the last page of the search results in Google. The number reported on the first page is wildly inflated, and may show 1,200,000 results. When you actually skip to the last search result you may find you're only on page 13, where it says that only 127 results were found!

There's also a third piece of the puzzle you need to take into account. When you search for each term in Google, be sure to take a close look at the search results on the first page. If it's covered with links to giants in the industry, it'll be a tough nut to crack - regardless of how great the search volume and the QSR metrics look.

Best of luck with it!

Dennis

Thanks Dennis, that's a big help!

And keep in mind QSR (as Don hinted upon) is "Quoted Search Results) or in other words how many sites are ranking with that "exact match" keyword....hence testing within the quotes.

But I'm sure you got that already! :)

I think if you look up "how to find the cheapest flights" (with an "s", which is the more widely used term) you'll find your answer.

If you look on the picture again "how to find the cheapest flights" with an "s" is alreay on there but what I don't understand is how can "how to find the cheapest airline tickets" have a lower SEO rating than a few other on the screen show with higher searches and a lower QSR?

I use Jaaxy and it's great but nothing is 100% accurate. I always check the keywords on google with quotation marks to confirm if it is a good keyword with low competition.

Sorry I'm confused, how does checking on google with quotations marks tell you anything about a keyword?

The keyword in quotes is the QSR

It looks like you have just found your low hanging fruit - well done!

So just to confirm jaaxy does get it wrong sometimes and I should use my head rather than follow its SEO rating blindly ha?
