Get Yourself A Morning Ritual

Everybody knows the importance of structure in order to navigate through the day, interactions with other people, and life in general.

I feel it is vital to meet each new day in a similar manner.

Being a certain age (I won't see 60 again) I look to gently ease myself into practically everything I attempt.

To this end I have a 3 step ritual I practice every morning to start my day. The rest of the day then more or less takes care of itself. Today I feel the need to share that process with you. The ritual includes:-

stretching exercises

breathing exercises

10 minutes of meditation

Stretching

Before I even get out of bed my morning ritual begins. After slowily coming around following the usual race to silence the alarm clock, I lay still for a few moments.

Instructions for my one minute routine repeated 3 times:-

- Tense your whole body for 5 seconds - then slowly ease the tension and relax - do this 3 times.

- Manoeuvre your left leg (firmly grasping your left shin with both hands) and pull it up to rest it tightly against your left shoulder. The idea is to gently stretch your tendons. Hold this position for 10 seconds then relax again to a prone position once again for another 10 seconds.

- Do the same with your right leg.

- Repeat left and right leg stretches 3 times

This whole routine shouldn't take more than 5 minutes from when you open your eyes until you get out of bed.

Breathing

The importance of breathing has always been something I had convinced myself was I should investigate further. I believe now I was right to do so.

During my research I came across a man named Wim Hof. He has an amazing story about how breathing helped him overcome a tragedy. He is now a sought after expert explaining how your body can heal. Wim has a 3 minute breathing exercise app that you can download and follow for free from his website. Sitting or lying prone, the choice is yours.

Wim has numerous exercises and procedures he encourages, that I can't see myself engaging with in the near future. However, I do encourage you to research Wim Hof and his techniques. Get you breathing right.

Meditation

I indulge daily in a kind of do-it-yourself meditation. Following my stretching and breathing, I quieten my mind for 10 minutes. My meditation involves sitting in chair with my eyes closed. The way I stop the 'chatter' is by counting backwards from 300 down to 0. If I just concentrate on the numbers, I find I don't think of anything else. When I reach 0 my mind is quiet enough to conjure up feelings of gratitude, and envisage goals coming to fruition.

Whatever method you use to tackle the day ahead I believe it needs to be something that will slowly prepare you take some action.

Good luck in achieving your success

Stay Safe
