Just noticed that my main site has had a huge boost in organic traffic today and wondered if anyone has heard of a new Google algorithm update? There aren't any other obvious ex
It might be - sometimes site owners see indicators such as this before the actual rollout begins. Same thing happened to me with the last update.
But it also might be Black Friday and people looking for deals or starting to think about Christmas. I haven't had an increase in traffic, but have seem my conversions increase significantly across a few sites.
It might also be that you just made it past a 'wall'. I find that my traffic will get stuck in a zone for a few months, then increase, and repeat the process.
Thanks Nat. My conversions haven't gone up. If anything I think people have been holding back a bit waiting for the Black Friday bargains in the past week (I am learning a lot about US consumer festivals!). Also, not sure car seats are natural xmas gifts. It must either be a huge update or my own site getting a general rankings boost due to "age" or some other metric? I will listen out for other people in the next few days since if it is a big update, other sites will be affected too.
Either way, trying to explain sudden visitor increase (50% up in a day) is a nice problem to have ;)
It could also be that one of your posts went 'viral' (I hate that marketing term, but whatever). One time I had a post get passed around FB for a day and got like 200 likes in a day for no reason at all other than someone with followers liked it.
Check analytics to see if one post is the source of your traffic. It's under Behavior > Site Content
It's also possible, as you said, that you just hit some sort of algorithm jackpot. You'll have to monitor to see if it's a temporary or permanent change.
PS. Every US holiday is a consumer festival, lol.

These are various hurtles that we are faced with doing business online. As well everyone seems to be getting a cut from a business transaction.

Ok thanks - so opening a dollar account with Citibank looks better than paying it into my normal bank in terms of the deposit fee, but I need to check what fees / exchange rates are used when transferring dollar funds from Citibank to my normal bank.
The fees will be enormous for instance Lloyds bank charges a $100 to maintain a dollar account
However as Katie says she gets hers through the bank in starling and so do I.
This is what they say:"Direct Deposit Information and FAQ
Amazon Associates allows people to be paid by direct deposit to their nominated bank accounts if they and their bank are based within the United States. At this time, the Amazon.com Associates Program is unable to offer direct deposit to International Associates or to banks located outside of the United States.
oh come to think of it mine is UK that is worth knowing as you say it costs extra to convert and pay for the cheque service,, would they not use paypal
guess I will be sticking with you and looking for another affiliate program to deal with usa

Here is the Amazon Associates Agreement >>
Gosh I have never even read it before and have been with Amazon for years. No you can describe how to add Amazon text links. You are not allowed to issue a press release or similar stating details about your association with Amazon
I was just wondering what they meant by any "public communication" of being on the program - this is stated in addition to the prohibition on press releases?
It indicates to me that they don't want announcement posts on websites, or press releases, that an individual or a particular website has become a participant in the Amazon Associate program.
Copying and pasting the exact wording that they provide into the disclosure/affiliate statement in a clear visible way is sufficient for visitors to know that the website participates in the Associate program. ~Jude

So, my number of Indexed pages doubled in 1 day for no apparent reason.
The duplicate pages have the word "tag" in the URL, like this >> kidsafetyfirst.com/tag/rear-
Hi Kristian, From the latest interviews I've seen, or read about, the dupe content is not really a problem, as long as its on your own site. What was said is that Google may/will just choose which page to show on the search results. Still have to worry about the quality of the content and other ranking factors to get page 1, but the dupe does not matter.
Best wishes on your endeavors.
I have received some reassurance that it's perfectly normal. We shall see - no performance consequences / warning received.

Do I need to resubmit site map when changing to Studiopress theme and rearranging site etc? Thanks
GA registers my IP address when I visit, so don't think it's that. I definately added the code again.
I can see that my gwt impressions and clicks have plummeted from a handful to zero since updating theme.
What should I no looking for? At the moment it just shows the date I submitted the original site map.
For the life of me I can't work my way on Google Analytics at the moment. But in Bing you're looking for the last crawl time.

Your sitemap gets generated automatically, but you can send an manual update if you've changed the layout of your posts.
The sitemap doesn't care about themes and visuals, just purely how your web path works with the posts/categories. If you haven't updated the url then don't worry about it.
