I want to move my website hosting off of SiteRubix. Is there a simple way to do this? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Kristen, not sure if you mean to go from a siterubix site to one on your own domain here at WA... or move your website from WA hosting to another host. My first WA site was built on my own domain, so I don't want to give any incorrect advice regarding a move within WA. As far as moving to an outside host, I'd look for one that does free migrations and let them handle it (after you did your own back-up of course).

Good evening Kristen,

Now I do not know why you want to move, perhaps be cause you have become .com? If that is the case I asked Support after some 45 days having both if it was safe to delete SiteRubix and they said yes.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

If you wish to move your website to another host, use a plugin such as Updraft Plus https://wordpress.org/plugins/updraftplus/ to make a backup that can be restored to a new hosting service.

I can't get Updraft Plus to work at Wealthy Affiliate's hosting Rich. That's why I use WP Clone.

Ah, thanks for the heads-up Marion, really appreciate it. Updraft Plus used to work fine, so I wonder what's changed? I'll create a couple of dummy sites and see if I can work out from the logs why it's failing. I had WP Clone fail on me, which is why I switched!!

The cron is disabled and there's no export options :(

WP Clone fails in around 10% of cases. If the website is too big or some hosting environments don't allow access to the database...

I really use FTP and PHPMyAdmin but it's a bit techie for most and there's no write access to the database here.

Ah, OK, thanks for the extra info. Yes, 100% agree with the FTP and PHPMyAdmin method, but as you say, it's way beyond what most members are comfortable implementing.

I just found Total by HashThemes. It is probably the most customizable and beautiful theme that we have available for free. Are there any others out there that you recommend?</

Astrid all the way!!! :)

I think my first one was called Spacious if I remember correctly. I only used it for a short while before moving to premium themes, but if you can find a free one that you really like, I'd definitely stick to that. The thing I found with themes is that none have everything you're looking for.

There are some premium themes that will do just about everything (I had one), but they tend to be heavy because of all the features... most of which you'll never use.

I use StudioPress now, and even though I have a license to use all, or any of their themes, I still haven't found one that does everything I want.

The stock WordPress themes (twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen etc.) are good free choices for speed and stability. And you can always upgrade later.

Something I just thought of as well, is that I have a site that I use just to test themes, plugins etc. I also use it to see how my logo looks, to get the right size and so on before I make any changes to my main site. That way if I break something (which I have done), my main site doesn't go down.

Once I find a combination I like, or a plugin that works good and doesn't slow anything down, then I'll install it on my main site. Just something to think about.

One more thing, I use a free plugin called Duplicator, which makes a duplicate back-up of your site with an installer so if anything goes wrong, you can reinstall everything back the way it was. It might not be something you need right away, but as you add more to your site and get more time invested, it's always a good precaution before making any backend changes.

Jay

Thanks Jay for mentioning Duplicator. It's really helpful to be able to do a backup.

I LOVE mine easy and very user friendly - 20/13 have a look at my site and see what you think OK
