if I write a blog from UK, do I look for affilates linked to the US? in other words, do I look for affilliate links that sell items in $ or Uk sterling?
This depends on where your targeted market is. For example, although I'm from Taiwan, I target the market in US, which means I would choose the affiliate programs available in US. That is, where your targeted market is and which currency you choose basically are not affected by where you write your blogs. It's about your choosing.

If you are targetting a certain market it may be you have mainly a UK market. But has already has been mentioned you will automatically be open to a worldwide market. If you are an affiliate for physical items you may have limits on shipping, digital items are usually world wide. Cover all the bases for your general marketing. If you are using targetted ads you need to ensure the product fits your target audience. No point using a product only shipped to the USA and using a FB ad targeting UK customers.
Either, once your site is online, it becomes global.
If for example I sign up with Amazon US and Amazon EU, and have a one link share, then Amazon will divert clients to the appropriate site as per location.

Hello from Nottingham! The internet is a global marketplace and your website will be seen worldwide. It depends on your target market and your chosen niche. For example, I have a gardening website that targets the UK and our particular climate, so I use UK affiliate programs.
