A migration.

Anyone who has worked with enterprise CRM's will love (or more likely dread) the word migration. Of course, it's a geeky term. I mean, people and animals migrate but software?

Really? Only the word migration does sum it up: you don't move a single piece of software, you move thousands of data points, millions of lines of code and billions of bits and bytes. So, yes, it is a migration!

And like all migrations it's very messy!

Streaming Music.

Wayback in time in 2004 Pandora Internet Radio opened up a whole bunch of musicians to my ears. Put in an artist and suddenly bam!, there was another musician who, not only was as good as the one you had been listening to forever, but was better! And you had never heard of them! And they were really famous!

So you listened to all these radio streams until one day in 2007 Pandora pulled the plug and cut off vast parts of the world, or at least Australia, where I live.

So we bumbled along trying either to not download too many iTunes songs and blowing up the credit card. Or, after the death of Napster, trying not to download other mp3 files from where we were not supposed to.

Anyone remember Amie Street Music? Great site and idea, and cool place to discover new music. Founded in 2006, then gobbled up by Amazon 2010 and closed down. And, yes, you paid for the music on a bidding system, so the artists did get their dues.

Spotify and Compression.

Fast forward to 2014 and I decided to stop being a cheap skate and sign up for a Spotify Premium account. By this time compression techniques had made big advances in the quality of the songs streamed and the Spotify recommendation algorithms had really started to ramp up.

By the way, the debate around streaming quality and is long and very boring. I see really no interest in discussing the sound quality merits of vinyl vs streaming vs CD's vs tapes or vs anything else. I mean if you really want to get great quality buy a concert ticket and watch them play, as long as you know who to go to listen to.

So here I was, sort of back to Pandora days discovering new songs and artists, with easy ways via the artist profile section to find who they were, where they came from and maybe where they were going.

Streamusque.

But you know what? A lot of those personal Spotify recmomendations were, to put it polity, rubbish. As were lots of suggestions from the other music discovery sites, such as Deezer, and Soundcloud and many others. Or they were for me.

So I started pulling out the songs and atrtits I liked into my playlists. Cool. The only problem with that it was too easy: click like, click save to playlist, click: OMG, there's over 200 songs in that playlist! And I only created it one month ago! It sort of defeats the purpose of the whole thing.

So I started a blog, orgially selected as a the song that had been released on the Friday Spotify new release list and above, it was a song I really thought had merit. There were not more than 2 or 3 selections per week, and if no songs made the grade for the week, then none did.

Next.

So where does this migtation thing come into all this?

Well, the Streamusque blog was orginally setup and hosted on the Wix platform, with the first post featuring Turn by Ten Fé from their 2017 Hit the Light Album (link is to the orginal post).

There are 120 songs from that orginal Wix blog from May 2018 to November 2018. Then, I decided to go full on and use the Wix platform to have a proper web site. So there are an additional 17 songs from that site from late January 2019 to March 2019.

Two month gap for Christmas? No. It took me that long to get anywhere near a decent looking website (actually longer, as I started sandbox developmet in August 2019). I also foolishly got involved in the Wix Corvid site database mangement system - not for the faint hearted and frankly over my pay grade.

So, yes, all those 137 posts need to be migrated to Wordpress, as I really do not want to loose them, and they are part of my site story.
