Hey all, some of you may know my husband Andy is an eletrician, and he is thinking about working for himself. He's really good at his job, I mean REALLY good. He's developed a lot of specialist skills in his career, and is looking at leveraging some of these to become a niche specialist electrician around our area. So many self employed tradies just use their name, I want to see if I can help him come up with something a bit more catchy without being cheesy.

Now, since being a WA member, I've learnt about the importance of branding, so I've been trying to help him come up with a business name. We'll also be doing a website for local marketing (I can't believe how many companies do a terrible job of this in NZ)

So, I'd like to get your opinions on a couple of business name ideas for his new brand. Please tell me which one you like, or if you hate both I'd love to hear some more suggestions.

Thank you in advance for your help, friends! :)

Frontrunner 1

The Specialist Sparkie

Frontrunner 2

The Electric Expert

Front runner 3

Expert Electrics

P.S: he'll be buying a domain with .co.nz extension, both of which are available.

I'm not sure about the name of the company, but for the web site, I always liked getwired.com

Hi Emily. Personally I'd go with Expert Electrics. For me the name seems to imply a larger organisation than just a sole trader which 1 and 2 sound like. He may just be on his own when he first starts but things change and if he is as good as you say then it wont be long before he'll need staff and a name that implies his business can handle all manner of work. Hope this helps a bit. Best wishes to him if he decides to pursue his dreams.

Hi Emily,

www.andysparky.com
www.andysparkie.com

and various andysparky/andysparkie extensions are available inexpensively, maybe even with your locality as an extension ie

www.andysparkie.christchurch etc
www.andysparky.wellington

I think I'd go for something like that, especially as Andy's name lends itself to the shortened version of "handy".

Just my thoughts and good luck to him.

Hi Mark, thank you for your suggestions, we hadn't thought of those ones. And cool to see those local extensions, didn't know about those, either!

Thanks again :)
