I have two domain names that I'm considering for my website. One is long(23 letters) but descriptive as in what the site is about. The other is shorter(13 letters) but abstract.

The longer name is five words put together and the second is only two words. My concern is that people will misspell the longer name. Is that concern valid?

If that five-word domain name is an effort to get keywords into the domain name, you may want to rethink that choice. Google has significantly reduced the SEO benefit of keywords in domain names ("exact match domains") over the years.

Here's an article from 2012 that contains a lot of info on the reductions in SEO benefits:

Personal opinion: Having 23 characters in a domain name is way too long.

Thanks, Bob! I hadn't read that specific article before but there are few out there with the same sentiment. I appreciate you sharing it.

I'd go with what Loes said...it seems to be the most logical one (and not I am not related to Spok!) =)....

Yea, that's a valid concern in my opinion. I honestly think you should ask this in chat, I'm curious for the answers as well :)

The one you can put on the back of your car and people read it before the stop sign and still remember it when they get home

Thanks, Loes! The long one runs together. It would be hard to read even if I capitalized the first letter of each word.

I appreciate the help!

I keep my domain names 3 words or less - also don't worry about your domain name being keyword specific or niche descriptive - think branding first – this will open up a lot of fresh ideas.

I did a few post about domain names that may help you decide: Hope this helps

Thanks Leo! The articles were helpful. My long name is eerily similar to the example of what you don't want to have.
