So I have a couple titles that exceed 60 characters.

How important is this to SEO to stay under 60?

The reason the title exceeds 60 characters is because the name of my website follows right after the title.

How important is it to keep the name of my website there?

If I have a great keyword phrase that doesn't fit under 60 characters with the website title, should I remove the website title?

Thanks.

L, Sam

You don't need to have the website title in your SEO. You can set up that inside your SEO plugin.

Hi - it's not to do with SEO really. Google only shows the first 60 characters of your title in its search engine results pages.

So, anything over this is cut off. It can affect as to whether a searcher clicks on your site. Your keyword should be in these first 60 characters.

Ok that makes sense. Thank you for that. And I guess it’s not vital to have your website name in the title right? I would think it’s more important to have a good title than having to fixate on your website name being part of it. Am I right on this or off?

Correct, the first 60 characters should reflect your keyword, not your website name.

For SEO in SERPS you don’t want Title tags to be cut off most is up to 70 characters. Website Title can be the same on article but the SERPs will have cut off. That’s been my experience. But like Rudy states it depends.

It depends, if the last word extends a few letters, don't worry.
It's characters, not words. One or two letters over won't hurt.

For a visual, look up something on any browser and look at the links that appear on first page. Look at the title and count the characters....

That should help you decide what to do.
