What I'm trying to find out is if it's advisable to use the same keyword in different articles or not? Obviously not over and over but say 3 or 4 times?

Regardless how good the phrase may be, it would be a mistake to use more than once. There is something called keyword cannibalization, see my training about it: Keyword Cannibalization

In doing so, just make sure you are adding (new) to the content of your previous posts/articles. The result will be an increased keyword density for those duplicated in a new post. Seems like that is a good strategy especially if that keyword is one that is Low-hanging and relatively uncompetitive. That's what it's all about! Good luck!!

Perhaps I don't understand either. You asked if it's advisable to use the same keyword in different articles or not... I attempted to explain why I think it can be a good idea if you are using one of your site's low-hanging fruit keywords. If you don't know what that means yet, you will pretty soon.
