I would just like to add, as a newbie, for the newbie's that are just joining, don't worry so much about a niche because when you come to writing up your journey for your pages to build up your website, the best thing is what I have always done is empty your head, just write and your niche will jump out at you. Otherwise, you will stress about what to write, don't worry take your time, work through the lessons step by step. What I have done is gone through every video as they have done, paused and restarted the video over and over again.

Hope this piece of information helps...good luck!!

Very good insight Ms Odm68 into the art of writing. More of us should do this, even though our pride might get in the way.
I would suggest EVERYONE new at this to consider your approach. Just start writing. They will find two things...First, what they are truly passionate about, and second, if they have the grit to do this longterm.

I just want to get something right with this key word thing. Say if I do a search for "How to be happy always?" and in key word tool at WA, it tells me that there are 50 searches or more and no more than 300 QSR, then it is good, right? So when I write my content, do I have to use the whole phrase "How to be happy always?"or could I just use the words in the phrase? If I was to use 'happy' on its own within a different phrase, how do I know that happy is a key word on its own? Any feedback is much appreciated.
What counts more as key words? The title of my site or the name of my domain?
Reply
kmer6 Premium
When you do a search for a keyword (one word) or a keyword phrase (more than one word), the keyword tool will give you the results for the exact word or words you initially entered to search for. So the term, How to be happy always, is a phrase. So the keyword tool is looking for all exact matches to that specific term. If you decide to write an article about "How to be happy always", you have to use all the words exactly how they are, word order, everything, in order for the search engines to rank your article for that term. I hope I explained this well enough for you.

Very well explained Kmer, thank you. However when I am about to write an article titled "How to be always happy", beside that phrase, must I not also include individual single key words? So therefore, with the key word tool, do you search them by entering them as single words? Say I want to start a sentence by saying "Positivity is ......." and I want to know if positivity can be a key word for me. So I search 'positivity' as a single word?
It seems to me that researching single key word are not always going to bring up the result that you hope for. How do you do your search?
Much appreciated

Another suggestion which makes a lot of sense, too.
Thank you.
Reply
kmer6 Premium
Very good point, Simon, because in that example, "How to be always happy", there are several keywords listed. There is "happy", then there is"how to", then there is "how to be always happy".
So you are correct for SEO, that you could literally get ranked three times for that one keyword term, because of the combinations of all the keywords in one phrase. I hope that helps.

I do combinations. I first do my long-tail keyword prase. I see my results. Then if I see one word, or another word that gets used a lot, I will enter that word, sometimes singly, just to get a feel for how the resulting numbers differ. I hope this answered your question.

Happy Saturday to you. This is what I recommend. I call it brainstorming. Brainstorming is a process that you begin to eliminate items you are passionate about that will be difficult to make money online with. You basically write down all your passions; your experience; your talents; your skills, etc. Then by checking against Google, you find out quickly if the item is probable or impossible to dominate the niche.
Take a sheet of paper, draw a line down the center of the page. One column you list on separate lines what you most like, your passions whether it is your experience, a hobby, a skill, a talent, or something close to your heart. For me, I had nearly a full page of things that I was passionate about. In the next column, on the same line of each different passion, I run the idea through Google, and look at the first page results. Do I see a lot of really big corporations (stay away) or do I see some affiliate review sites ( possible to outrank).
When I finish each item on my list, I start over with more detail, until I get my list of possible websites down to just two or three choices. Then I pick my favorite, what I am most passionate about, because, in the end, when it comes to mandatory writing once or twice a week for your site you want a site that is enjoyable to you, even if you aren't getting any traffic. When you feel you had enough, this is when it becomes most important to continue adding content.

Good question. I hope this helps you.

I am also confused about key word research when it comes to searching for a key word phrase that seems like it would provide the most accurate results. Then the results of that search of the phrase brings up other related key word phrases that could also be used to rand. I don't see how there could be any value in just searching 1 word since your results could be really nothing to do with what you are really writing about. So I guess I don't get it when it comes to searching individual words and how that could be of much help.

You are correct Barbara. One word keyword searches will accomplish very little if anything at all. Your best plan of attack is to put yourself in your website visitor's shoes for a moment. What would they type in the search box that would bring your website up in the results? Type this keyword phrase into your keyword tool of choice.
The suggestions that the keyword tool displays might just be what you need to write a post about. Plan on using the long-tailed keyword phrase and not just the one-word keyword. Chances are that a much older website is ranking for that one keyword and it will be near impossible to outperform them to get that keyword. Your long-tailed keyword phrase is always a better choice.
I hope this helps.

Hi everyone

this is all still very new to me. ;)

I was originally thinking of setting up a travel company for the LGBTQ community - given all of my own travel experience (and having worked in the travel industry). However, the costs of setting this up began to spiral, as it is a UK registered company, thus requiring a huge outlay for ATOL, ABTA etc. to operate within the strict policies.

I'm now thinking of writing a blog, targeting this audience, and I'm thinking of teaming up with LGBTQ Tour suppliers/ agencies and accommodation booking engines and also for TEFL, as teaching has mainly funded all my travels. I may also use Amazon etc. for travel gear recommendations.

Does that sound okay to you? Is there a theme you would recommend?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Brian
Reply
MozMary Premium
your main niche sounds like the travel, the TEFL and travel gear in themselves could be niches so imo you'd have to be careful not to spread youself out too widely with them, certainly tefl is a great way to help fund the travel and you could do blogs on it and monetize them, and similarly product reviews on travel gear for certain locations ...basically you are monetizing travelling in various ways there so it is coherent

as for themes, ultimately your new direction is affiliate marketing and Kyle and Jay tend to emphasize keeping it pretty simple for good conversion, remember you can play around with themes on the free sites as much as you like

WA Keyword Tool is included with WA Membership.

Jaxxy (after an initial 30 free searches) is an extra cost.

They both give the same essential information, but the Jaxxy results are a little more expanded and there are more options for finding keywords. There are also some other benefits to Jaxxy like checking your siterank.

Wa Keyword tool does everything you need, especially when starting out there isn't a need for Jaxxy it's just nice to have if you can spare the extra change!

In the video Kyle shows that the keyword -basketball drills- has a QSR of 300.
Now, QSR is stated as being "Quoted Search Results" and is the total number of pages through the whole internet where those words figure in that format. (according to the video)
However...
According to Google there are 449,000 pages on the web that have that confuguration of words on them.
Where is my error becasue this keyword stuff is really rather important to the success of my website! :-)

Stan, you are going to do some research. This research consists of entering a search term that will be relative to your niche. Look at all of the displayed search terms. You will want to harvest (copy) the best search terms by search volume, traffic, and competition. You collect a minimum of five search terms for an article you wish to write.
With these five search terms (keywords), you will now narrow these terms to find the best keyword term that will give you the maximum amount of searches (volume), The lowest amount of competition, and the highest number of potential visitors (traffic).

When I do keyword research I start brainstorming some different keywords. I see what is displayed, sometimes take one of these and use it as my search term to filter through to get new keywords. I select the best keyword terms that will fit my content. I copy these for future articles. This approach gives me plenty of available keywords to use at my leisure.
I hope this explains the five keywords you look for.
Good question

Not sure if this is where I can ask for advice from someone.Still struggling with my niche. I am trying to take this new adventure slow but steady so I can try to limit my mistakes now, for better success down the road. So I am a avid wine maker and enjoy drinking and pairing with foods, but cannot think of a niche. My other love is for vacations and cruises. I am always reading about new ships and what they have to offer, and at times talk to friends and family advising them on what the best cruise line and cruise ship would be best for them. So, I was thinking of a website, maybe called cruiseforme.com or cruisebestforme.com.
I saw a lot of other websites on Google i.e.,cruisecritic.com and cruise online.com. So I know there is competition out there. I have been on 3-4 cruises so far, so not that many and wondering if I can create quality content without a ton of travel experience.

What are your thoughts on this niche? Too broad, too narrow?
Again, I am trying not to rush the process so I can limit my mistakes. I do not want to put a few months into a niche and then it not be successful because I chose a not so good niche. I understand I may not generate any income for at least 1, 2 or 3 years months, and I am okay with that, however, when it does start generating I hope to see the steady monthly progression going forward due to my work and dedication in the earlier months.

Sorry for long winded question. Thank you all in advance for your help.

Good day to you Jeff. I just happen to read your question and thought I might have an idea to bounce your way. Your choices that I understand are between wine and cruise ships?

Okay for the wine niche, do you also make your own wine or just know what the various types, blends, brands, etc? The world has a lot of wine enthusiasts and what better way to show off a wine collection than through their own custom bottle racks, accessories like cool looking wine glasses, wine bar, etc. There are a ton of paraphernalia just for drinking and enjoying wine. Even knowing the best location to go to get a bottle of this or that.

Cruise ships sounds more like a vacation niche. If you are able to become a reseller of vacation cruises then this could be a great niche. You may even get free tickets for you and your family if you sell x number of tickets.

Either one of these can be a great niche to build a website around. I would suggest you do some keyword searches for each niche. See what WA keyword tool suggests. Write down the favorite ones, then take these to Jaaxy keyword tool. (since I don't know if you are a member of Jaaxy, I say do most of your keyword search here for free). With Jaaxy you can find out if a domain name is taken for your best keyword phrases, which may help you decide which niche to pursue.
Good question, and I hope this suggestion helps.

The video includes an overview of Jaaxy as well as how to use features that many do not know about and/or utilize. Remember that you can use the "Keyword Tool" to the left of you screen underneath the Tools heading for free. I try to go there first before I decide on keywords that I want to search within Jaaxy since it is not free. It is an amazing tool and well worth the money if you use it the right way but I still like using any free tools at my disposal.

Hope this helps. Remember that you want to write about keywords that you are targeting but do not overuse them. Keep keywords in mind but let yourself write your content naturally. You can always go back in and add the keywords to benefit you.

Alternatively if you are looking to start your website and promoting the Wealthy Affiliate program, then click on the Black Affiliate Bootcamp button .

Reply
Colestock198 Premium
chrome exhaust, custom wheels, Helmets.... Do some keyword research on some specific areas. I would imagine motorcycle wheels have pretty high competition but I would also venture a guess that you could pick just about any part and build a successful website around it. Customization in bikes is HUGE!

motorcycle helmets has over 33,000 monthly searches with 303 competing sites

you could have a motorcycle helmet website then there are a ton of searches within that to categorize...
carbon fiber motor cycle helmets
women's motorcycle helmets
cheap motorcycle helmets
custom motorcycle helmets

it just keeps going and all of the ones I looked at have over 500 average monthly searches...

I'm only using helmets as an example. You could literally do this same thing with pretty much any part. Break handles, exhaust pipes, seats, gas tanks.

Hope this is helpful!

I have a niche idea for keyboarding. I know I could give tips, I know I could market typing apps and programs. But if I were to have a typing website I feel like there should be some sort of typing interaction. whether that be some sort of mini lessons or a speed/accuracy test. Is this doable? and if so how could I go about incorporating an interactive experience to a wordpress site?

Use U-Tube videos. Make a video, put on U-Tube. Embed on your site. Do short lessons that when you finish one go to the next. Use this to show how to's.
The only way to do it live is via Skype. Maybe you can use your website to set up times for Skype tutorials that are live. Charge for your time.

There are a couple of good 'speed typing' courses available for free online. You could link to one of them in your post. Or affiliate with them if it is available. And have a look at what they are promoting within their site, it might give you more ideas.

I would go with the linking. You can build a whole post around those links. I just searched it and there are mountains of typing games and all kinds of typing stuff, like how to improve your left pinky, how to increase your speed and accuracy etc.
Just another way to enhance your website users experience and sell your products.

For eg: when i key in keyword phrase of "work for the unemployed youth" with inverted comma, my website ranked 1st in google

If i key in the same keyword phrase without the inverted comma, my website doesn't rank at all.

So, which one are we targeting - with or without inverted comma? Hope someone can enlightened me.

I have experimented with this a little bit. I used to try the highest number of searches and above 90 if using jaxxy, or 9.0 if here on WA. however I have discovered at least on jaxxy that I like to use the ones that have at least 100 searches, but less than 25 competitors. I have been able to rank higher on those. I assume as my sight gets bigger, I can start being more and more competitive.. hope that helps

Good question. Magistudios has a video in the "Live Video Classes" that pertains to this exact question. If my memory serves me correctly, It is ideal to find 100+ searches for your keyword phrase. Competition on the other hand would be the lowest number, or fewest competitors.
On your posts, go for competition that is 75 or less. Pages 120 or less. Anything 300 and over forget about it. I hope this helps.

How do I make my own niche?
Reply
Michelle04 Premium
When you are trying to determine a niche, think about the things that interest you or that you have knowledge about. Some people have a hobby that they turn into their niche. It is easier to come up with a niche that you are familiar with than something you are going to have to be researching.

The following is great to read as it helps you understand more about just what a niche is:
Reply
MistyC Premium
What are your interests first?
Reply
kmer6 Premium
Hey Joe, let me try to explain it in another way and see if it makes any sense to you.
A niche is a group of people that all are following one thing, like football, for example. This group of people are not interested in baseball, or basketball, or even tennis or golf. NO! They are only interested in football. So if you had a website that was all about baseball, with gloves, bats, hats, etc, you could not interest these football people AT ALL.
Same is true about a "Niche" in everything else. LP vinyl albums, they don't make them anymore, but yet this could be a niche to people who collect old records. Or what about "HO" scale trains? Yes this is also a niche. These people are only interested in "HO" scale, even though there are other scale of model trains, like "N" gauge, etc.

If you look at a "Niche" in this perspective, for every product you probably could name at least one niche, if not more. Hey, I hope this helps.
Ken

Joe if there is one thing you really like and have a reasonably good knowledge of that's a good start for a niche, something you're interested in, passionate about, you're going to have to talk about it a lot, although if you're not sure there is always the net to check out your thoughts. Best wishes.

You are very correct in realizing there are so many people today that have inferior problems that lead them into very problematic situations. The Vets returning from war to the pregnant teen mother with no family, to the young adult with a substance abuse addiction. This world is moving so fast that most parents overlook many situations that if untreated early, rise into real serious problems.

I looked through Jaaxy Keyword Tool searching for an adequate Keyword that had high searches, low competition, that would be right for a domain name.in this area. I know there is one, I just can't wrap my thoughts around it just yet. I hope that another helper here at WA will come to my rescue.

where do i start in keyword research
Reply
kmer6 Premium
This is how I do keyword research.
First, I find my niche. Then I brainstorm in my head about what "words" and "phrases" that If I were wanting to find something on the Internet, I would use these terms to search for in Google. I come up with 5 to 10 words and/or phrases.
Next I use the keyword tool. I plug in one at a time all more possible keywords and phrases and look at my numbers. Jay did a video about this a couple of weeks ago about what you want your numbers to be.
Next ideally the best keywords and/or keyword phrases will have a search volume (the first number you see) very high and the competition number (second number) lowest number.
So using that formula, search volume at or above 100. Then competition number to be as low as it can <300 (that is anything under 300). Myself, I look for even lower competition number, <75.
That is where I start. Any other numbers will either be too hard to rank for (very high competition) or not enough people interested (low search volume). I hope this helps.

Before I go ahead and buy a domain, I wanted to clarify a few things about my niche. Initially I wanted to do a betting tips website focussing on the major European football leagues but after doing more training and more research thought this maybe seems a bit too broad. I'm thinking I should maybe concentrate on 1 particular league, the league I follow closest and know most about might be better. Then rather than have the betting tips as the focal point, base the website more on delivering reviews and previews of fixtures and provide analysis on various stats that might be useful. Does this sound like a better idea for a niche to work on?

You can read me well....I sometimes make simple things complicated.:P

"How do I plan to diet to lose weight" is a question but for marketers, is a long tailed keyword. OK I understand it more now/simple!

Thanks so much for taking the time to help. :)

Am I missing something? I click on a classroom and get a discussion thread. I tried to access "Keyword, Niche and Market Research" and ended up here.

When you hover over 'Classroom' and click on 'Keyword, Niche and Market Research' you should be taken here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/keyword-niche-and-market-research
Once there, the first discussion within the classroom is this one that you're in right now...

Thanks for the reply TravelHacker. It doesn't appear to be a "class" so much as Q&A - comments. Is there no actual lesson attached?
Reply
TravelHacker Premium
Oh, sorry, misunderstood your question.

This is not a 'class' per se, but rather a classroom. A place where people within the community can ask questions, get answers and learn from one another's discussion pertaining to whatever subject the classroom is about.

For actual lessons and training you should be looking at the Certification Courses - right under Classrooms. Or else just hit the green 'Get Started Here' button on the top left bar and it'll take you right to your lesson where you left off.

Ok Thanks! I guess I have finished the actual classes then... from what I can see. I will move on to vid's - appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Pardon my skepticism, but you've been a member for 2 days and you've already completed all 4 certification courses?!?
Reply

Yes, I have been through them all. I have not been building a website or producing any content as of yet. Just not how my mind works. I have to go through everything until I f feel I have, at least, a rudimentary grasp of how to move forward.

Oh, got it. Kind of like an overview to see what this is all about...

Just my opinion (and I'm sure that of many others here :) but I would highly recommend you start working through the courses before you go through the video classes. The courses are the foundation and the videos are more like extras. Great, useful information, but info that can only be helpful once you've done the basics.

I only say this bec watching videos takes a whole lot more time than just scanning written lessons...

That is a good point and I am sure you are right. Thanks for the input. :)

hantaah,

You are in the classroom for Keyword, Niche, and Market Research. Look at the top where you will see tabs: Q&A, Tutorials, Videos, and Courses. This is the classroom, and each one is set up this way. Right now we are in the Questions and Answers section.

Click on the tabs at the top to access the other parts of the classroom.

Don't get frustrated! This is a great site and there is not another like it that I have found in my 7 plus years of looking for a place to learn online marketing.

Any questions, feel free to message me.

Hi Hantaah, Try mousing over the Classrooms link on the menu to the left of the page, Then click on the Keyword, Niche and Market research tab. Then at the top of the page in that menu there, make sure that you select Tutorials. You are most likely stuck in the questions and answers section at the moment and cannot see that menu .

I don't see any lesson here? I only see this:

Research is critical to the success of any campaign. If you can understand the concepts of researching your audience, your keywords, and understand who your corresponding niche is, you are going to experience much more success and efficiency within your business.

In this classroom you are going to learn all about the follow concepts:

*Keyword Research
*Niche Research
*Market Research

My niches are diet, exercise and feet.. But I think I need to narrow it down a bit to an age group.

Honestly Cyril, I think that your niche that you have chosen is far too broad. I recommend that you narrow this down slightly and to do this I would recommend trying out the Alphabet Soup Technique.

Here is a short training video on this:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/alphabet-soup-technique-using-google-instant-to-find-keywords

I use this not just for keywords, but also to narrow down my niches into something more specific. Remember also, there are TWO BILLION people on the Internet. Even some of the seemingly smallest niches out there have huge audiences that are searching for help with them and buying products within them.

Also, I recently blogged about what is too broad of a niche and how to define what is a suitable niche (with some real examples). I absolutely recommend that you check this out as it is going to definitely help you here Cyril.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/kyle/blog/a-niche-is-a-group-of-people-looking-for-stuff

If you want to run any of your "narrowed down" niches by me, please do let me know and I will be more than happy to give you a hand Cyril. :)

My audience are housewives willing to be $ earn some money from home, I think this niche may be too broad, any idea to target a smaller niche? I would really like to show other women that they can do it and motivate them to take action.
Reply
ThomasPaul Premium
You could target it geographically, meaning you target women within certain areas. You could also target them maybe by age?

My chosen niche is online marketing but i've noticed that the keyword tool in WA (not jaxxy) seems to search in google with quotations. If you search without the quotations the results are very different. My question is who is going to search in quotations when typing in google?
Reply
Drawshot Premium
Hi, The using of quotations is to show only the web pages that use that exact term. If not searched in quotations you will get a lot more pages of of close but not exact matches.

My niche is men's jewelry. What I want to create is a website with "affiliates" in the jewelry business, who pay for my websites referrals. Is this possible or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Reply
BlueDot Premium
Hi - little confused to your request. Are you aiming to promote other companies as an Affiliate and received coms for this or are you a jewelry store owner wanting affiliates to sell for you.
Reply
MmmmBalf Premium
This is what affiliate marketing is all about. If you google mens jewellery affiliate programs you'll get plenty to choose from. Amazon also sell mens jewellery so you could add them as well.

You will get commission on sales, not just referrals to the site.

If you follow all the lessons step by step and do all the tasks, you will get there. Just access the big green button on the top left menu. Don't skip anything, just go along at your pace.

Yes it does thanks. I have been writing thinking that i had to have them underlined or that i had to link them to my pages.
Reply
Coullion Premium
Will google recognize your content with keywords in it, or do you have to have the keywords underlined for google to recognize it?
Reply
Melh1015 Premium
Google and other search engines should be able to crawl into your website and find the keywords without it being underlined. Hope this helps.
