So basically, I created my website, and I am
planning to revolve it around a winter niche. For example, I am going to be advertising winter gear, snowboards, and skiis. Is this too broad? And if it is, should I continue with 1 certain winter activity such as snowboarding?

If you want to carry it on broad, fine but it will take more time to rank. I think narrowing it down a bit will be okay for a new website

I think it's fine as it can be as broad or as narrow as you choose and develop it

I think Winter is a great niche on the grounds that people who partake in Winter sports generally do more than one. To help you gain traction write twenty articles on snowboarding. Then twenty articles on another topic

Hey Zach,

I agree partly with Abie below, that it is a little broad, however, one of the posts they referred you to is helpful, in the fact that you can create a website and domain name that covers your broader niche, but to start out with a very micro-niche within it, to gain traction and authority. Once you have received that, then you can start to branch out.

The post for that is: I would also add that you will not be "advertising" products, as such, you will be creating high-quality information based content to help your niche with their questions. You will of course also provide product reviews, where you will be recommending products/services to your niche.

Hope this helps,

So as of now my domain name is snowingguide.com. Your implying, i can keep this domain as it is the broader idea, and within this website i begin by focusing on 1 specific niche (snowboarding)?

Hi, I would say still broad you need drill down keywords, you can use Jaaxy for this purpose. That's research, left sidebar and Jaaxy dashboard.

https://my.jaaxy.com/search/keywords

Look for searches (avg.) above 30 and competition (qsr. ) lower than 100, the lower the qsr the better.

Further useful resources include

A niche is something you are passionate about and would write 100 articles or so about it, could be a hobby, an interest perhaps. To put it in perspective, would you be writing about it in five years time.

Via Kyle:
A niche can honestly be anything, what are you passionate about? What are you interested in?
When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:
I want to help people that ______________.
Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Kindly let us know how you get on.
