Hi guys!
If I want to rebrand my website with a new domain name and move the previous contents to the new site, how can I make sure Google does not treat them as duplicate
Keye, If you look in your webinar invite in your inbox, I believe you may find add'l info to all the great input you have received thus far. It explains how google gives your website a code "400"' meaning content is no longer there (@ the old website). It covers deep links which is what you will be interested in. It covers the 301 redirect and simplifies the process. Amazing how easy 301 looks! Good Luck, Bunny
Hi Spectacular. I'm interested in viewing that webinar too. Do you remember the title?
Cheers
Did you get an answer for this one?
I'm planning a move too and have the same worry. I don't want Google to treat my content as duplicate.
There is one small difference with my plan, though. I'm not planning on moving everything in one go.
I intend to start from scratch and adding 2 or 3 of my posts per week to my new site (after reviewing them and maybe making small changes where necessary).
I will also be shutting down my old site completely, once I start the move.
Hi Eoin,
I was advised to use Redirects from the old pages to the new ones. So when the old site is defunct Google will find the new pages. Apparently Google is smart enough to know that the other website is dead and so won't penalise you for dulicate content as it see the re-direct instrucitons.
Hi Brendan. Thanks for the help out.
Since I first asked the question I've learned to do a 301 redirect so I've changed my original plan. I'm keeping my old site up while I'm doing my move and redirecting each post as I go.
So you're advice is on the button. Google follows the redirect to the post on the new site and recognises that it's not duplicate.
I'm pretty sure now that all will be okay despite my initial uncertainty.
Cheers Brendan for taking the time.
Best regards,
EoinMc
Hi Keye,
I don't know the answer to the first question but I can help you with the second.
Recently did a massive redirect for my site. I followed this tutorial and everything went smoothly http://youtu.be/ZLJSbEDyjVc Give it a try.
And a little bit extra from Matt Cutts http://youtu.be/r1lVPrYoBkA

Hi guys!

I think it's a great idea, considering university students will probably like the idea of potentially making cash by being on the internet (something they would probably do anyway). I mean there are a host of things you could do, like suggest that they blog about what their studying (two birds in one stone/ make money with something you have to do anyway) or about school problems in general (I find that the funniest and most effective tips and tricks come from university student who are low on cash or resources - kind of like Life Hacks), and those are just a few.
Basically, I'd say go for it!
