I Will Never Blog Here About My Specific Posts Success Ever Again And Heres Why!

Last Update: July 14, 2018

So the other day I made it to page one position 2 then page 1 position 1 for a specific post of mine. For the very first time I made it on page ! and I was very happy and wanted to share my progress with the community here so I did. I knew in doing so maybe someone here might copy the post idea or something like that so I just asked in the blog post for them not to but I knew I was taking a chance.

Anyways not even a day later I was bumped all the to the middle of page 2 which was upsetting to say the least so I looked into who was now outranking me. I then saw a couple websites from members here so I screwed myself by sharing. I learned my lesson and I won't let it happen again!

They didn't just copy what I did or anything they but had previously written posts on the same thing and then must have edited their article or something because I did not see them at all on page 1 or 2 before I shared here. It's too much of a coincidence not to be related.

Not to be cynical just realistic. Everyone here is trying to one up each other and everyone else that's in their niche so I decided not to give detail in the future about specific posts that rank well for me.

It was my own mistake I never should have shared it but that's life you live and learn.

I don't blame them for doing what they did hell I might have some the same thing if I was in their shoes. It's just a kick in the nuts delivered by my own foot!

Well there's my rant I had to get it out and maybe this will help someone else not make this poor decision like myself.

Until next time...

That drop in rankings has nothing to do with you sharing your post here.

Google will always rank your content higher on the first day or two before dropping it to its rightful place.

In a few weeks, if it gets comment interaction, it will probably go back up again.

My advice to everyone when posting content is to NEVER check Google for where you are ranked until a week has gone by.

And when you do check make sure you first go into a private browsing mode like Google Incognito, otherwise your results will most likely be false.

Thanks for the info that could be true for my case since you are much more knowledgeable on the subject I will not say you are at all wrong.

However someone else comment that something similar but worse happened to him while posting his articles here and because of that and what I believed to be similar to my own experience I will not blog about details of any successful posts here in the future.

Just to be safe because its not worth it. Don't get me wrong I will still post here. I just won't give all the details of any success I do have.

That is your choice to not post. I never post my search results mainly because I do not see the need to after the first time it had happened. My feeling is, why brag about it?

But as for your lowered ranking, Google does not drop your rankings as quickly as it happened to you because of other content.

You just need to check your rankings after about a week and in a private browsing mode to get a more accurate result. Results any sooner will most likely be wrong.

Welcome to the Google Dance.

I am really sorry to hear this happened Kevin, people have the tendency to get ideas from wherever they can. This is natural human behaviour and people have the tendency to try to emulate success.

What I suggest in the future, is that if/when you share success, that you don't necessarily show people the exact keywords. You can keep these to yourself, and this way it will protect your work and your campaigns moving forward.

Also, it is a very good sign that you are ranking you rank once, you will likely be ranking more and more moving forward...this ranking may very well shoot back up to the first page in the near future as well.

If you ever need help with your campaigns moving forward, do know that I am here for you and I will be here to help, including you can reach out to me personally.

Hey Kyle this is actually KevinV91. This is my blog post. I made a mistake in my previous Blog post and had an affiliate link in it that I copied from my website. I did not know I was breaking a rule. I was banned from writing on my account the next morning after I posted without any warning that I was doing something wrong. I emailed you and wrote on your wall.

I'm not trying to be annoying at all man but WA is important to me and I need to be able to communicate in order to do well here and promote WA.

I really didn't know I was doing something wrong or I wouldn't have done it I've tried contacting you and Carson as well as ambassadors and nobody has even emailed or messaged me back on this account.

I really love it here at WA man and have no intention to spam the network.

My only intention is to learn and be successful. I'm writing this in hopes that you will see it and respod. I hate to bother you man I know your busy but I'm a little desperate right now as you can tell. Thx for your time Kyle.

I hear ya Kev mate, I's the same thing with Amazon FBA & Shopify, you can NEVER share you personal successful products or a few days later you see 100's just like it, sometimes you have to learn the hard lesson to get better.
Keep pressing on tho bud, go kill it!

Sorry that happened but once published, your blog is out there for anyone in the world and they too can see how it is ranked. As long as they didn't copy the text, the idea of what to blog about can be used by anyone. I know as I go through google and read different articles, I'll come up with ideas inspired by that article. I never copy anything word for word but ideas are free. I don't remember reading your post about being on the first page, but its fine to be excited and talk about it in the community. It inspires the rest of us. However, if you make a suggestion on a post or review - expect others to run with the idea too and it is against the rules to place an url to your website in this community except for a couple of exceptions when showing someone how to do something. That's to prevent us from promoting ourselves and our sites. Congrats on a good ranking. - Shirley

I live in Saudi Arabia, and Kevin's blog post is still #1 for the keyword "What is ###jobs" over here. I see a couple of WA members' sites on the first page too. I'm not sure what's happening on Kevin's end.

I believe in less than a week many bloggers in the MMO niche (WA and non-WA members) will be trying to outrank him for that keyword. They'll probably have enough sense not to copy his article word for word at the risk of getting slapped with a copyright infringement notice.

If they copied your post, I can understand your frustration.

The sad fact is, whilst WA is a fantastic community with lots of helpful members, there are a silent minority that never help others and are just looking for ways to further their own ambitions.

I don't think you're bashing WA. It's a big community and sadly every community has immoral leeches that will lie, cheat and steal to make money.

Such people are incapable of creating sustainable success because they have never developed the skills required to do so.

Don't forget - if they copied your article, you can file a copyright complaint with Google - if the content-thief keeps getting hit by those, it will trash their traffic.

Best wishes for your future content creation.

Sorry to hear about this. But the truth is whether you share your blog posts here or not, people will still strive to outrank you. Isn't this all about SEO? If you want to rank for a particular keyword, see who's ranking highly for that keyword and write a better and, if possible, longer post.

But copying? Did the members copy your blog post? I guess by sharing too much detail, you just made it easier for copycats to "steal" your work.

In any case, this shouldn't discourage you from sharing your successes. Just don't make it easier for people to find your blog posts. They'll still find them for sure but not just fast enough to outrank you so fast.

Also, if your website is less than 6 mths old, you should expect your rankings to bounce back and forth. Who knows? Maybe at the time of writing this, you're back on page 1.

Hi, Kevin, I can understand your angst, it can feel like your hard work has been undone, hit with a sucker punch.

Just to come from a different perspective, looking at your post it is sitting page one number one.

Aff jobs .com is sitting on page two for that search query.

Top of the range you have outranked that platform, I would say that is a good outcome.

Keep that up and your star will shine brightly.

The thing about the MMO niche is that it is extremely competitive, there is competition and we meet it head on or crumble. Like you say it is a good lesson, keep striving.

Coincidence or not, you should always keep your posts to yourself unless you want a comment on there but I know from experience that when you get comments through this program that's all people will do is comment in exchange for one back and not think about the content.
So when you say that you have something that can get on page 1 of google then it is inevitable that people are going to copy it.
It's like you are giving them training on how to do it, even though you asked them not to
Just think, if someone told you a foolproof method of ranking well in the search engines, would you want the same for your website?
Of course, you would.
Maybe next time you hit the jackpot and you want to tell all about it
Don't let others know where to find that content, just let them know that you have been as success :)
All the best

Sorry to hear this - be aware that it is very normal for a new article to jump around quite a lot in the beginning. Especially if your website is fairly new.

Just wanted add this in case you are not aware as the jump to second page might not just be because others have copied it.

I understand your frustration. Sadly not sharing your success won’t stop the issue as people can just Google, see who’s on-top and copy away. All I can say is do your thing, share your triumphs and pitfalls, but maybe so so more generically. You can still give hint and tips without giving away specifics.

Hi Kevin,
That is unfortunate that you got "copied" in a sense, and certainly lost rank. It is hard enough to get on page one without someone using your idea to best you.

I am relucent to share some things. Maybe in very general, but not specific as it can be too big of a temptation for someone to use someone's idea instead of coming up with their own.

Hope your future posts are ranked high.

"It's just a kick in the nuts delivered by my own foot!" Ouch! I crossed my legs when I read that one. I am sorry this happened to you.
I have seen this taught as an SEO strategy. See what content is ranked #1 for the keyword you would like to rank for. Study it and create better content.
Is that what happened? What did they do? Add video? Add more or better links? What?
This is not over. The ball is in your court now. Get in there and kick them in the nuts, really hard. LOL

Frankly, I'm too busy concentrating on my own success than worrying about knocking someone else down. If someone is trying to step over someone else to get ahead, it means they don't have enough original ideas so they have to steal from others. It may work for a minute but eventually, the "well" will dry up. I'm not concerned about copycats trying to get ahead. Be happy you made it to page one (on your own!), and there's plenty more where that came from. :)

Hi, Kevin, I understand your upset. There are a lot of crooks around. I have another puzzle. I have WA account for more than 1.5 years. I spend a lot of time every day looking for products to put on my affiliate links, but I've never seen any conversion, except on control purchases I made myself, even not on all of them. Recently, I began to use cloaked affiliate links, and, WOW! I was so happy to see hundreds of conversions on my cloaked affiliate links reports, but, at the same time, very upset, because I do not see those conversions on my affiliate services dashboards. And the puzzle is WHY? it's 100% I have conversions, but, probably, some crook sitting between my links and my affiliate services and takes my harvest. And it's strong probability that this crook is on the same WA network. May be you or somebody may tell me how to eliminate such crook? Please, help me to solve puzzle. Thanks

Cloaked links only track click-throughs not sales so your conversions are just click through not sales is why they don't show on the affiliate dashboard. As to the number of products listed if you don't have enough content outside of reviews on your site you will always struggle with this issue.

I heard about this when I first started affiliate marketing. I'm thankful I did because I cloak my links because of it. I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. I don't even know how they are able to do that.

I know it has gotta be hackers but how exactly I wish I knew. At least you fixed the issue and I hope its not someone here but it would make sense from a predators point of view.

find out whose new and ignorant on such matters and steal there affiliate profits. Its smart i a scumbag kind of way so it makes sense that they would be here and probably target people just trying to learn and make a living which is sad.

Link cloaking is the process of disguising the affiliate link URL, provided by an affiliate program, to obfuscate your affiliate ID and make the link shorter. This protects your affiliate commissions by making the affiliate ID less visible and makes the link more visually appealing to visitors.

As far as I know there are impressions, clicks, conversions and conversion occurs when a visitor to website completes a desired goal, such as, in my case, making a purchase. It's because my affiliate site is about sales. So, there're in my reports I have amount of clicks, uniq clicks, conversions and conversions rate. Conversion rate is the number of conversions divided by the total number of clicks. So, if there is 1 conversion, 1 click and 1 sale the conversion rate is 100%. At 1 conversion, 5 clicks and 1 sale the conversion rate is 20%. So, if report shows amount of conversions and conversions rates, does it mean it was sales?
I've never seen any sales any comissions on affiliate services dashboard except on few of my own control purchases. Would you tell me, please, is there a probability that at least one person made purchase of more than million products I put on my affiliate links in more than 1.5 years on WA? Thanks.

would you really do the same thing? you see one of the top 10 posts in WA today is encouraging people to copy and for WA to relax the duplicate content laws comes straight up in the comments

however content thieves of whatever variety are precisely that, I'd like to know who they are and then let us all visit their websites and 'edit' their top ranking posts if you think that's the way to go

it also makes ya wonder how site comments and feedback is helping those top rankers then too?

I expect that is my comment you are referring to about WA relaxing their response to duplicate content.

For completeness I did not say I wanted them to or that they should I pondered that perhaps they HAD as “quotes” now do not seem to attract the duplicate content warning.

I feel from your reply that there is an inference that I am a content thief. Yes I have used direct quotes from the Bible and various historical people (Edison, Churchill) these are not something which should be changed but which did seem to trigger the duplicate content warning.

Perhaps I am being overly sensitive this morning but I just wanted to clear that up.

Hi. It is wise not to give too much info away I agree. I also agree with earlier comments by boomergp08 - I doubt that your drop was caused so quickly by copycat posts. Google rankings tend to move you around a lot at first and then they mature and settle down. At least that’s my experience.

Hi Kevin,
We love the success stories and I encourage you keep sharing them. However, don't over flow. Keep your keywords, article URLs and strategies to yourself.

What happened is not the fault of WA. It's the nature of man and you will always be found by anyone who wants you. That's what SEO tools are meant to do.

Prove them weak and feeble by giving your article more uniqueness and rank better. That's the way to treat competitors.

Hi Kevin I'm so sorry about all of this kind of thing frustrating you so much

The upside is that it shows you how good you are. I for one would first ask permission from you before I'd do such a thing and then get your approval before I post it.

There's a thing called boundaries that are protected by publishing laws. I'm a published author by nature and have allot to express with my own niche of course, although when I decided to become an affiliate for my big dream, the Vegas trip, it was a different ball game for me.

I've struggled like hell to find the simplest words to use , just a line, to make a start posting on social media. So, I was advised to approach the experts in this game. Now that I've come across this post of yours from my inbox, I'm even more motivated. I'm learning and if it wasn't for people like you, I couldn't have made my first advert on Facebook.

Like a big family, there'll be quibbles among some but there is always solutions to any problem. That, I am grateful for.

Like MikeC69 says, keep on keeping on. In his latest post.

My added view is, as I look back at even the bad times, I understood that even then there was something profound to learn so that instead of feeling angry, I'm grateful fMikeC69ro the lessons I gained along with the inspiration I found to write my first book Things to consider, by Sylandra Ali - Publisher Xlibris to whom I give my utmost loyalty to.

PS* I'm trying very hard to get to make revenue on this platform to afford the corrections that I want to do as well as the book review I'd like to have done for me. As they say, "you are only as poor as before your first book really sells

So I quote again. " Keep on Keeping on" by

Sharing is caring. Taking out detail is sensible. Keeping balance is the best way. Roberts explanation makes sense to me as I have experienced similar to what you have described and I haven’t shared the detail. I would be surprised however if anyone was malisciously trying to ‘up’ someone else here. Yes we’re all improving ourselves here but we are all human and the majority of people globally are focused on their own efforts rather than what others are doing.

I agree with comments from experienced affiliates (Robert, Dom, Jovo).

First of all, give yourself at least a week or so for your post to get a stable first position in Google. Do get comments (but over a period of time, not like 20 comments on day 1 and that's it, G will see it as suspicious activity).

Secondly, you CAN share your success story here but without going into details (about your website name, keywords you were ranking for etc), if you feel uncomfortable. By the way, it's not even allowed sharing our website articles at WA (to keep it spam-free).

We all love success stories and we appreciate when other share it with us. So, you can do so just without sharing much details.

Hope this helps.

I can understand, its frustrating and unfair.

I used to share my site for the first few months as a newbie working on it only to find another member that blatantly ripped off around 15 or more posts from me from the same niche.

Usually within one day of posting mine lol... Needless to say i decided to drop that site with around 40 posts and start over in another language.

Ironically once i stopped posting, that member had no new articles and dropped his site.

Now as someone else said, you rank because you understand how to and can replicate that so just keep going.

From my point of view it is better that it happened early on and you can correct that mistake and not when you have a big site.

Wish you lots of success!
Reply
kevinv91 Premium
thank you and wow yea in your case that's overboard! at least you figured it out eventually and fixed the problem. 40 posts is still a lot of time and work that you put in only to have it dropped but in the beginning I definitely understand having to change things up completely. I basically dropped my first site with my first 2 weeks because of the learning curve and I wanted to try and learn as much as possible while building a site around W.A before I spread out to other routes.

It's more difficult in someways but I'm constantly learning more about affiliate marketing so I take the good with the bad. The way I see it i can take all the knowledge I gain from building this site and implement it into my future sites.

I hope things are going good for you I wish you much success as well.

The fact is that people steel complete texts, there were many examples here in the past years.

But it does not have to be so in your particular case. I checked your ranking when you published the blog and you were indeed on the position 1. But I did not check further, do not remember when you published your post. What I want to say is - there is well-known Google dancing; after initial ranking, a post can drop far below and even vanish completely. Your post may still reappear after a couple a weeks. I have seen this many times in my posts.

It seems unlikely that other WA members outranked you so quickly after modifying their texts by following your example.

In any case, yes it is better not to show anything, not even blog about success although this is encouraged here. You can expect your ideas stolen.

One only has to look at jays football snack helmets case study website and than the blatant copycat siterubix site to see how some people are here and so sharing too much is a bad idea unless you are so very well established in your corner you can afford to take the hits .

It’s sad , honestly that so many people feel justified in riding on the coattails if others instead of putting in the effort to make it on their own .

If it makes you feel any better the success of those who refuse to put in the time and effort to learn The Who, what , where, why, how of things is Surely short lived .

They copied what works but without the understanding and effort they can’t duplicate it over 100s of articles . You put in the time to learn so you will naturally fare better over time .
