Hi Folks
I have started ti receive a few comments - which is great. Just a question though - each person who has commented has left a URL back to their web-site.
I
I just checked my comment section also and found 24 comments in the spam folder that were from legit WA members. 5 were spammed comments. Most WA members just leave their website URL as asked for along with name and email address. I never leave a link inside the actual comment. That's not good etiquette.
Hope this helps!
Hi Peter - apparently the Spam checker I am using is picking up legitimate comments that contain a web-site link and putting them in Spam....so it is protecting my site as it should. As long as we keep checking whats been put in the Spam folder we should be o.k..
My theme always asks for a web-site address which is no doubt why the folks are adding theirs.
And I agree with what you say about adding links within the body of the comment....that's not on....thanks for your reply.....Cheers - Kevin
If the comment isn't from a fellow WA member I would delete any and all links.
You are opening the door to a lot of spam if you don't.
Have a great Sunday.
Robert
Unless you're sure you should always delete.
I delete dozens of these type of comments every day coz they are just not worth the hassle.
Robert
Sometimes the theme asks people to leave a url which might be the case as you are saying that everyone is doing it. The other thing is to check whether these are spam comments. Most comment spam checkers can be set to refuse any comment that has a url included.
Links left by commenters are not usually recommended because they often lead to new websites which can be viewed by google as weak or thin sites, which can sometimes affect your own ranking.
Many thanks Marie - not only have you answered my initial question but also explained why my spam checker is marking good comments as spam...which was the next question I was going to ask....:0)

Some advice needed about received comments?
Hi Folks
I have started ti receive a few comments - which is great. Just a question though - each person who has commented has left a URL back to their web-site.

Hi Kevin, I just found your question and had to join the conversation. Backlinks is something I have studied quite a lot. M Hainsworth hit the nail on the head with what she said. Blog commenting used to be used as a fast way of gaining valuable backlinks and increasing your website ranking. Since Google upgraded their search algorithm some time ago, lots of blog comments with links all pointing to random, unrelated sites is seen as suspicious in the eyes of Google. Google checks to see how many links are being build on your website and how fast they are being built. If you suddenly get a couple of hundred comments all with links pointing to completely unrelated sites then google will not look on this as being natural.
On the other hand if you comment on a site with related content and they allow a link back to your site, that could do you a little bit of good. Although these kinds of links only play a very small part in terms of SEO, they do still count.
In short: remove unrelated links from sites that don't have anything to do with your niche. Although if a few slip by, its no big deal as Google want's to see a natural link profile and for it NOT to be over optimized and perfect.
When you comment on others sites, yes you should leave a link because they might allow it to remain on the site and it might give you a very small boost in SEO. Over time those tiny boosts will add up and will contribute to your link profile.
If you are interested I wrote an article on link building and why I don't do it any more. http://makemoneyonline.zone/do-backlinks-still-work
Hope that helps!
Thanks for your reply and advice Andrew....I will indeed read your article....Cheers - Kevin

Hi Guys - have any of you had Akismet say that is it being blocked by your Firewall? If yes - any ideas how to resolve this? Thanks - Kevin
Hi Kevin,
Please create a hosting support ticket so that I can look into this for you. Akismet is a plugin that most sites at WA have installed and run without any issue. We would like to look into your site and have a peek at what might be causing this.
When you create a hosting ticket it gives us all the information about your website that we need to investigate.
To add a hosting support ticket just go to your website dashboard, then click on "Support Tickets" from the top tabs and proceed to add your ticket.

HI Carson - I logged into the Akismet site after I posted this question and according to the site the plug-in is active. But I am not sure how to check that from the point of view of my site...I'll send you the suport ticket....thanks - Kevin
If you login to your admin area of your site, click on Appearance, then Plugins and you will see the Akismet plugin there.
Here is a tutorial on how to install and setup. How to Install Akismet - Protect Your Website From Spam
Hi Carson - I did all that and it appeared to install a.o.k. The problem happened after the installation when I looked in "setting" (just out of curiosity) Thanks - Kevin (support ticket sent to you)

HI folks - so I keep hearing this expression about accessing the "kitchen sink" - I have not some across this in my Affiliate bootcamp training as yet and wondered what it mean
Thanks guys....I wish I had discovered this before I built out my pages....maybe if I had not switched to the affiliate bootcamp before finishing the green button course?
The old meaning of the "kitchen sink" means "everything"
Like throwing the kitchen sink at something means throwing everything you have into a project
Thanks Ken - yeah I got the drift of the saying - just didn't know what it meant in relation to Wordpress.....:0)

I am not sure if its something that I have done or not. I just logged into my site and opened one of my pages in "Edit" to make a quick amendment. I usually do this in the "vis
OK folks - so I have tried all of your suggestions here - thank for all your support.
Unfortunately nothing has restored my Text editor - I have asked WA support for help.
Again - many thanks for all your help....
Kevin
Maybe try opening in chrome in incognito , or in different than usual browser ?
possibly you will have to supply login and pass there, worth a try...
This happened to me a few days ago. I asked the question here and several people suggested to clear my cache.
But by the next time I tried to get on ( a few hours later) - it worked as usual without my having done anything!
I would suggest deactivating all plugins and switching to a default wordpress theme to rule out any plugin/theme specific issues. If the visual editor then works, active plugins one by one and then theme until the issue arises again.
Clear your cache by deleting your history. Then refresh your website page. Let me know if this works or if you need help doing this!
Thanks for the advice - I tried this but still have the problem - I need to go out for now so I;ll have to come back to this a little later....cheers again....
Next troubleshooting I would try would be to go through this guide and see how it works for you. Troubleshooting - Visual Editor Not Showing Up In Wordpress
